2004 Volvo S60 2. 5t. Purchased the car used in sept 07. 6-5-08 panel displayed open rear door while driving 65mph on highway, my door was not opened. Car jerked as if there was power loss, ac went off, brake failure light on panel, power windows and locks did not work, temp 105 , then driver panel went black. Car jerked 3 times in mid traffic, I was scared to death for my life. Arrived at my exit, pulled over to a gas station, engine still running but sluggish, radio was still on, power door locks and windows did not work, ac off. Engine still running so I made it a couple of miles up the street to my home. Cut the car off and back on, all power returned, now check engine and air bag trouble on panel. Went to Volvo dealer next day 6-6-08 near my home, they can not see my car til next week Tuesday. Went to pepboys, battery and alternator are ok, can not access engine box, must go to dealer. Called Volvo for Tuesday 6-10-08 appointment. Car duplicated same problem Monday 6-9-08 on drive home from work on the highway temp 105 etc. Searched for complaints and recalls, my recalls were reported completed when I purchased the car, found all of this valuable info online, will see dealer tomorrow and take these related copies of complaints with me.

6 Engine problem of the 2003 Volvo S60

Failure Date: 07/28/2005

I was traveling on I-65 from louisville, ky to chicago, illinois and encountered sudden loss of power after driving 205 miles at steady freeway speeds. The car (Volvo S60, 2003 model) suddenly lost power and speed from 70 mph. I pulled over to the shoulder at a speed of 40 mph and turned off the engine. I waited 10 minutes and then started the engine and reentered the highway and was able to accelerate to 70 mph. After about 3-5 minutes the same loss of power occurred and the engine turned off and the oil light remained on. I once again pulled off to the shoulder, turned off the vehicle and called for tow assistance. The car was towed to a Volvo dealer in , indiana (napleton auto) and left for 24 hrs. Dealer reported no diagnostic evidence of problem and was unable to replicate the problem on non-highway drive tests. I subsequently drove the car on a return trip to louisville, ky ( 350 mi. ) but with several stops along the way to rest the engine. This loss of power created a very serious safety risk. When the loss of power occurred I had a fast moving truck behind me and avoided an accident by quickly moving to the shoulder. I was very distressed by this experience.

8 Engine problem of the 2001 Volvo S60

Failure Date: 04/02/2005

On Saturday April 2, 2005 ,at about 3:00 p. M. , I was returning home with my wife and daughter from a spring break trip to washington d. C. We had driven for a good part of the day through difficult conditions. . . Considerable rain and even a some snow showers in eastern ohio. While driving on the ohio turnpike in the vicinity of toledo, the vehicle suddenly lost power, that is, the car decelerated regardless of foot-pressure on the gas pedal. Although I was at the time in the middle lane of a rather busy interstate highway, I was able to pull over to the right shoulder of the highway, where the car stopped running altogether. I let the car sit for a minute, and then attempted to start the engine again. Although the engine turned over it would not run. Through information provided by geico insurance roadside assistance facility were able to summon a tow truck, which delivered the car, and my family to a Volvo dealership schmidt in perrysburg, ohio at about 5:00 p. M. On that Saturday evening. This incident, apart from considerable inconvenience and cost, put my family and me in a very hazardous situation. Partly because of the presence of a guardrail, the vehicle came to rest only inches away from the line separating the highway shoulder from the right lane. Because of the heavy traffic much of it consisting of massive trailer-trucks traveling west I think it reasonable to say that the exposure to risk was high. Had the weather very chilly temperatures, a piecing north wind, and the ever-present threat of rain been any better I would have guided my family to the shelter of an overpass about one quarter-mile to the west until the tow-truck arrived. Fortunately, officer mack of the ohio highway patrol arrived after about 20 minutes, and alerted passing traffic to the roadside hazard with the flashing lights of his patrol car.
