The contact owns a 1999 Volvo V70. The contact stated that the electronic throttle positioning sensor warning light would illuminate constantly, causing the vehicle to run slow and sluggish. The vehicle would have to be turned off and restarted whenever the failure occurred in order for the vehicle to reset. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that the vehicle was repaired for the failure in 2006 under NHTSA campaign id number: 06v441000 (vehicle speed control). The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 93,877.

2 Throttle Control Warning Light On problem of the 1999 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 01/28/2011

The contact owns a 1999 Volvo xc70 (n/a). The contact stated that the electronic throttle control system warning light was illuminated in 2004. The dealer replaced the throttle body system and made updates to the vehicle computer. The contact was offered an extended warranty to cover the failure for up to ten years from the date of service. Most recently, the warning light was illuminated again and the dealer was contacted. The dealer advised the contact that the warranty had expired in 2008 and any repairs would be at the contacts expense. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 103,300.

The contact owns a 2000 Volvo V70 cross country. The contact is currently experiencing difficulty starting the vehicle. While driving 60 mph, the throttle light illuminates intermittently. She received a safety recall notice for NHTSA campaign id number 06v441000 (vehicle speed control). The recall repair was performed and the surging and stalling ceased for a short period of time; however, the failures have recurred. On July 18, 2008, the dealer stated that they would repair the ecm system if needed, but the contact would have to pay to have the vehicle diagnosed. The current and failure mileages were 140,000.

4 Throttle Control Warning Light On problem of the 2000 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 06/29/2005

Volvo dealer-serviced 2000 Volvo V70xc with @60k miles occasionally refused to start. Dealership flashes chips. 6 months later, at 67k, eletronic throttle system warning light illuminates repeatedly during 1500 mile journey causing Volvo to surge & vary speed continuously. Problem reoccurs occassionally during next week before Volvo V70xc can be dealer serviced - planned trip cancelled due to questionable status of Volvo reliability. Volvo dealer service department admits eventually engine would just quit stranding occupant. Since out-of-warranty, owner pays $1200 replacement of faulty electronic throttle module. Owner obtains old part but no longer trusts Volvo with wife & child as replacement throttle body same with no better guarantee against failure.

Contact states has a 2000 Volvo v-70 station wagon. Had to replace the electronic throttle module because the vehicle kept stalling. The abs light and the electronic throttle module lights illuminated on the dashboard. The consumer stated after the vehicle was serviced the problem was corrected.

6 Throttle Control Warning Light On problem of the 1999 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 09/20/2003

While driving vehicle lost power and died on the highway. Caller said the electric throttle system warning light came on when the vehicle lost power. He was able to get the vehicle restarted but it would not idle right and could not be driven. Vehicle was towed to dealer who determined that the electric throttle neede to be replaced. Manufacturer said sometimes these things failed.
