36 Wiper problem of the 2013 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 09/18/2021

Water is leaking down the inside of the windshield while driving in rain. It comes from the top edge and streaks down the drivers side (left side). I spoke with a mechanic that services my vehicle and was told if it was a sunroof drain issue it would be coming down the pillars and getting on the floor. They were confident that it was the windshield that was leaking and referred me to a local auto glass business for repair. I read on a car forum about other Volvo car owners having the exact same problem with their Volvos that are around the same age as mine. It seems to be a glass adhesion failure that consistently occurs on the top edge of the Volvo oem windshields. The forum is located at https://beranek. Agrrmag. Com/2015/04/Volvo-glass-bonding-issue/ I also contacted Volvo about what I had found and having it covered by them, and they asked me to first get it inspected by a Volvo dealer before they would decide whether or not they'd pay for the repair. I spoke with someone in the service department of my nearest Volvo dealer and they wanted to charge me $300 just to inspect it. The date of the incident I'm giving below is the date that I first experienced the water running down the inside of the windshield while driving. Thankfully I had something within reach to wipe it with as I was doing 60 mph on the interstate highway.

38 Wiper problem of the 2013 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 07/11/2021

The windshield leaks in rain.

39 Wiper problem of the 2013 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 07/08/2021

Noticed rain entering car from front windshield on the driver's side. Car was taken to an auto glass company thinking it was a seal. The technician showed me that there was no seal on the top of the windshield. He informed me that if I pushed the top of the windshield up I could confirm the seal was broken. He suggested I take it to the dealer ship because this was not a new issue. When I took it to the dealership the female auto adviser said she had not heard of such a problem. I contacted Volvo and was informed I needed to take it to the dealership for them to diagnose but did not indicate whether or not they would correct the damage.

40 Wiper problem of the 2012 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 05/07/2021

My Volvo windshield started leaking from the top seal. When it rains water runs down the entire inside of the front windshield.

41 Wiper problem of the 2013 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 04/26/2021

Upper seal on the front windshield has failed. Water leaks on the inside of the car on drivers side, into the upper light console and on the passenger side. The vehicle has always been garaged and is otherwise in great condition. The windshield is the original factory installed windshield.

42 Wiper problem of the 2012 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 04/09/2021

Windshield seal failed causing water to leak into car.

43 Wiper problem of the 2013 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 03/02/2021

When raining outside water drops inside on the driver from the top of the windshield above the steering wheel . This just started on a 7. 5 year old car but with only 47,850 miles. This is a safety issue because the driver is getting wet and is totally distracted and, if ignored, the body will rust, loosening the windshield. . The car cannot be safely driven in the rain with this leak and it cannot be left outside at all if there is any chance of rain, unless the windshield is covered with plastic. If I ignore this the car will rust around the windshield so as to weaken it's role as a part of the safety construction to protect the occupants in a crash.

44 Wiper problem of the 2013 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 02/13/2021

Windshield leaks severely when it gets wet. The leak is from the top of the windshield and drips on to the driver, steering column, dashboard and runs down the inside of the window. It leaks in rainstorms, snowstorms, while sitting in a parking lot getting rained on and especially in car washes. This is a safety hazard, having to take hands off of the wheel to wipe the inside of a windshield during a storm and driving to be able to see clearly is a hazard.

45 Wiper problem of the 2013 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 01/16/2021

When raining, while in motion, the windshield in front of the driver will leak directly above the steering wheel. These leaks will drip onto the hands of the driver or the steering wheel or will run down the windshield, on the inside. When dripping to the steering wheel, the wheel becomes harder to grip as it is covered in cold water from the outside. Additionally, the drips can be distracting as cold water drips on the driver's hands. When running down the inside, the drips obstruct sight as well as distract the driver while in motion. This is particularly disturbing when in heavy traffic, in heavy rain.

46 Wiper problem of the 2020 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 12/28/2020

Vehicle: 2020 Volvo Xc60 - driver outside rear view mirror fails to automatically extend from a vehicle locked rotated inward position when outside in freezing weather. The mirror remains rotated inward facing the interior of the vehicle. A call to Volvo USA customer service for advice gave the response - "wait till it unfreezes". There does not seem to be a method to rotate it manually other that force which appears to cause breakage. If you can't wait, it leaves the driver without a means of easily seeing approaching traffic. Fully rotating the head creates other potential for keeping an eye on traffic ahead. Vehicle was stationary, and outside with temperature in about 31 f degrees in a driveway. Passenger mirror performed as intended. This has append 2 times. Today 12/28/2020 in zip code 98077 & 12/26/2020 in zip code 99338. Both in the same weather conditions.

47 Wiper problem of the 2013 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 12/07/2020

There is a leak in the top left corner of the windshield. There are not cracks, breaks or abrasions on the windshield. I have looked into the problem and it seems that all glass companies in the area are aware of the problem and say that it is an original/manufacturing issue. This is a safety concern because if it is raining while I am driving then this would impair my visibility and cause distraction. Also if an airbag were to deploy then it would could cause the windshield to become dislodged from the car. I didn't have a leak until I took my car into the Volvo dealership to get an oil change. They ran it through a carwash and then afterwards I magically had a leak in an area that is well known for failing.

48 Wiper problem of the 2013 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 11/30/2020

Factory installed windshield seal is unbonded and water runs down the inside of the windshield while driving in snow and rain, reducing visibility with no way of clearing it while driving. Water penetration from the windshield also produces condensation, further reducing visibility. Yesterday while driving it began raining while I was driving at 60 mph on the highway and water began running down the inside of the windshield on the driver's side and I couldn't see clearly enough to continue driving safely, so had to pull off to the side of the road during busy traffic. This has happened to me three times in the past month.

49 Wiper problem of the 2012 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 11/12/2020

Windshield sealing problem. Water is leaking thru top of the windshield.

50 Wiper problem of the 2012 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 07/17/2020

The vehicle's windshield has been leaking water through the top of the dashboard. When it rains, the windshield leaks all over. I have been following forums and it is a common problem in this particular model of Volvo but has not been a recall. If this continues I'm afraid someone driving could loose visibility if its raining. Even through the carwash this Volvo models leak water. Something needs to be done.

51 Wiper problem of the 2012 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

When it rains or I go through the car wash the windshield leaks water that runs down the inside of the glass and has stained the headliner.

52 Wiper problem of the 2013 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 05/22/2020

For several years now I've had to deal with a defective windshield. It leaks water into my car and on me while I'm driving. The water turns to mold until I shampoo it out. It affects my visibility driving. I've tried to get it fixed but I was told it was my sunroof. The sunroof was tested and it is not leaking in the vehicle. There are multiple forums of hundreds of people having the same issue. I worry if I spend 1,000 on a new windshield that if this is an oem problem it will leak again. This issue happens both driving and stationary. But in the meantime I worry about my family getting sick from mold in the car every time it rains as well as when I'm driving my visibility. Volvo needs to be responsible for resealing all of our windshields for free and replacing front carpets. I am not experiencing any electrical issues which is good.

53 Wiper problem of the 2013 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 04/16/2020

I guess it's a common trait with Volvo. . . . My first Volvo since. Stepping away from mercedes after 39 years. . . . The seal on the windshield has started to fail and leak just above the steering wheel. . . . . Off to safelite and ditching what has been a substandard vehicle since I bought it.

54 Wiper problem of the 2013 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 04/01/2020

When it rains, water leaks from the top of my windshield down into my car. It is getting progressively worse. Water starts to stream down the inside of my windshield causing me to have to take a towel and wipe it down as I am driving to see. The water also drips down onto the consul and onto the driver and passenger legs and feet. The interior gets wet and smells soured after each rain. I am scheduling an appointment to have my windshield replaced due to faulty adhesive at the top of the windshield. I have read about numerous other cases and I am disappointed there has not yet been a recall. This is dangerous and causing further damage to my vehicle.

55 Wiper problem of the 2010 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 03/09/2020

56 Wiper problem of the 2013 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 12/01/2019

The problem started 2 years ago and has progressively become worse. The original windshield is leaking water, which drains down inside the a-pillar and windshield. Water also leaks into the air-bag in the a-pillar, and moisture may come in contact with the electronic parts in the dashboard, creating a safety issue and a potential fire hazard. Last year I contacted tucson Volvo for help, and they referred me to jd auto glass (520-370-6599). The local dealer refused to take any responsibility for this safety defect. There have been heavy rains recently in tucson, and water is dripping onto my lap while I am driving, and trying to wipe the dashboard dry. This causes a major distraction and obstructs my vision, since the water continuously runs down the inside of the windshield glass. Yesterday I contacted tucson Volvo again, and they referred me to tony's autoglass (520-889-2422). The owner/manager of tony's autoglass informed me that leaking windshields are a very common problem with Volvos. I believe this is a very serious safety defect, and am seeking help from your office. Thank you!.

57 Wiper problem of the 2016 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 09/15/2019

The windshield is leaking heavily from the top and condensation impairs visibility. This is effecting some of the safety and electrical systems, such as the passenger airbag and door controls.

58 Wiper problem of the 2012 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

I have a 2012 Volvo Xc60 with an adhesive failure at the top of the windshield that is apparently caused by a manufacturing defect that Volvo has yet to take responsibility for repairing at their dealerships. This is a safety hazard. According to Volvo: "the windshield is one of the most important parts of the car. Not only does it ensure an undistorted view it also is a critical structural component of the vehicle. That means the installation process for windshield replacement has to be exact and performed using only Volvo genuine glass in order to retain the original properties. The windshield is important to the structural integrity of the vehicle and also interacts with many Volvo safety systems. The only way to preserve performance and guarantee safety is to install Volvo genuine windshields. Using Volvo-specified adhesives will bond the windshield to the same strength as when assembled in the factory. It's important the bond has the right strength for the function of the passenger airbag which is designed to use the windshield as a support when deployed. . Read more...

60 Wiper problem of the 2012 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 03/11/2019

The front windscreen / windshield bonding had failed within the first couple of years of ownership of the vehicle. This was not known at the time, misdiagnosed by the manufacturer, and only recently identified by a 3rd party. This is apparently a common issue encountered and has led to, according to the local 3rd party garage, at least one instance of a windshield becoming detached during driving. In our case the bond has progressively failed across the top of the windshield with the symptom being an intermittent water leak. One concern is the windscreen detaching during motion, but my more serious concern it the possibility of the windscreen affecting function of the passenger front airbag.

61 Wiper problem of the 2011 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 03/04/2019

Leaking windshield common on these models. Windshield seal coming loose.

62 Wiper problem of the 2013 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 01/12/2019

Volvo Xc60 glass bonding defect. Whenever water from rain hits the windshield water runs down the interior of the glass inside the vehicle. The bonding material has eroded and glass can be pushed out of the frame with my fingers. The leak has expanded to encompass the passenger side. There is concern the entire windshield will disengage from the frame. I have consulted a windshield replacement company who have confirmed that the bonding material is eroded. This is a safety concern as several safety functions operate from this area(automatic stopping, airbag deployment in a rollover).

63 Wiper problem of the 2010 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 01/02/2019

The windshield leaks when it rains. It obstructs my vision while the rain water ran down the inside of the glass. This is a safety issue while driving.

64 Wiper problem of the 2013 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 01/02/2019

Water leaks between the windshield and the car due to a bad windshield seal. You can push from the inside and see the windshield leave they frame of the car. This causes mildew to form in the car and I have spend many $100s to remedy. To replace windshield is $1000 because of the re-calibration of electronics that is needed.

65 Wiper problem of the 2011 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

The front windshield (original, factory) adhesive has failed and the windshield is loose. Besides the annoyance of water leaking in, this is a safety issue since the windshield is a structural component which retains the airbags and occupants. This is apparently a fairly common known issue with the factory windshields.

66 Wiper problem of the 2012 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

Severe interior water leak from top of windshield whenever it rains, during a carwash, etc. - creating visibility problems for the driver & a resulting safety hazard since the windshield is not suitably sealed. The vehicle has been garage parked, never been in any type of collision, and never been damaged in any way. Windshield leakage is a common issue with Volvos, even though the manufacturer and local dealerships continue to deny there is a problem.

67 Wiper problem of the 2011 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

My car has an odor for days after it rains when the windshield streams water above the drivers stearing wheel and also allows water to stream down into the driver's side floor board- it's a full on stream of water that comes out the top corner driver side of the windshield and rolls down over the stearing wheel and drivers hands and down through the drivers floorboard over the accelerator and the drivers feet. I've been in the car during the rain and while at the car wash to witness this streaming of water. There is a 1 to 2 inch puddle of water that forms in the floor board right under the accelerator if left to stream freely. The water does not gush out right away but sometimes will remain dry until moving -has happened at low speeds while pulling out of my driveway but as delayed up to10 minutes later after I've gotten on the highway where I'm at a speed of @ 70mph) its a huge safety hazard- I have been startled (safety distraction) because of unexpected cold water flooding my foot and my pant leg while on the accelerator. I've spoke to auto glass repair companies, who report several things could be happening but either way, cost me a lot of money while liability is on me if they accidentally crack the good windshield if it isnt a simple seal problem. The majority of windshield repair company's I've spoken to state that they have seen this before in this model vehicle and it has (in thier experience) been a crack in the sunroof drainage system? however, just to test this problem alone is a $400+ in shop diagnostics - I have also read on Volvo forums and on NHTSA, other owners have reported the same issue I'm having. If anything, I wanted to report the issue too in hope of gaining info about what the problem maybe so I can have it fixed in the most efficient and less costly method or may it lead to further investigation to determine recall procedures.

68 Wiper problem of the 2013 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

I purchased a certified pre-owned 2013 Volvo Xc60 from a local Volvo dealership in June 2016. After approximately 18 months of owning the vehicle, I noticed a slight leak from the driver's side windshield after having the car washed. The leak became increasingly worse over the following few months, as I also noticed water accumulating on the driver's side floor during heavy rains. Subsequently, I took the vehicle to the Volvo dealership where it was purchased. I was told by the service department the windshield needed to be resealed, which is considered part of the owner's maintenance. Additionally, I was informed the dealership is not responsible for the windshield breaking during removal to reseal. I've since researched this issue being a factory problem with the primer and/or sealant used by Volvo, which can cause the windshield to pop out during an impact. This is a safety issue that Volvo is aware of and is unwilling to address (ie - issuing a recall). This appears to be a common problem with several of Volvo's models manufactured between 2010-2015. Moreover, I've also learned the sunroof lines frequently clog causing water to leak from the windshield or onto the floor of the vehicle. Volvo is also aware of this being an issue. The water damage can cause severe electrical failures in the dashboard.

69 Wiper problem of the 2012 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 02/20/2018

Water leaking into interior from windshield. I've taken it to the Volvo dealership and they won't fix it due to being out of warranty. Safelite wants $350-$800 to reseal or replace the windshield. The leak is making it dangerous to drive in wet weather as it drips onto the steering wheel and onto the driver. The leak occurs during any rainy condition while stationary or in motion.

70 Wiper problem of the 2012 Volvo XC60

Failure Date: 01/02/2018

Water drips from top of windshield into car as fast as it comes down. Drains into lights fixtures as well as gears and wheel. Fogged up glass on highway causing serious safety concern. In winter caused gears to freeze in park. Water pooled in bottom of car and in light fixtures. Water in sunroof control - caused malfunction. When going from stop to start water rains down in eyesight cause another major safety concern. Dealer said windshield was loose. Service said they had not seen this problem. Sales said this model has this problem all the time. Interesting conflict. . . Volvo forums have this issue well documented.
