There was a leak on the evaporator coil within the ac system for this car. We started having issues with the ac around the 56,500 mile mark ([xxx]). After a couple of rounds of recharging the system with refrigerant and looking for a leak, the repair shop finally found the leak on the evaporator coil system. The repair was quoted cost $4,854. 03. The evaporator coil during the summers when the ac was not working, this was definitely a safety concern. Riding in the car with no ac in the summertime in hawaii is brutal. The $4,854. 03 cost for the evaporator coil replacement, did not include the amount of money we spent the first two go arounds looking for the leak and recharging the system with refrigerant. After doing some research and talking to the repair shop the evaporator coil replacement work it seems that this is a very common failure on this model/year Volvo. I also noticed it looks like they already had a similar recall out for this failure on other similar Volvos. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) I would like to have Volvo USA to address this issue and fix this common issue and recall this year model.

The airbag system detected a fault and caused an automated vehicle warning message, which, with further dealer diagnosis, caused the driver seat belt to have a ground fault issue, preventing the normal, safe, and fully operating vehicle airbags. The cause and what must be replaced to rectify the problem are unknown. Volvo has poor customer support and satisfaction regarding avoidable repairs, along with various documented airbag failure incidents confirming a severe issue with its system components that require government oversight and correction through a recall to ensure the safety and reliability of the safety systems that protect lives.

We drove this vehicle to a family event in chicago. We pulled the vehicle out of the parking garage and pulled into a downtown street in front of a hotel to load the vehicle up. Once the family was loaded the vehicle up the car would not start it had 700 miles when it failed. We were stuck on a busy street trying to start the car. I called roadside assitance and someone came out with a jump pack, but the battery was not dead. I was in the pouring rain trying to figure out what was wrong. They did hook a computer up to find several faults in the computer. It did also indicate a left turn signal fault. Also talking with roadside assistance the agent said that was the 2nd call he had with no start issue. Finally it did start but the check engine light was on the whole trip home, had to cut our trip short and drove as far as we could in fear the car would not restart. It kept coming back with the left turn signal fault and did not shut off the car even pumping gas in fear of not restarting then all of a sudden with cruise control on the car just jerked itself amd almost pulled us off the freeway. Now it has been at the dealer all week researching forums this seems to be a common issue.

I was going 60 mph when the check engine light came on , the car started to jerk and reduce speed. I pulled onto the shoulder until the car stopped. I than proceeded to drive slowly and the turtle appeared on the dash. I drove about another mile until I reached my home doing 30 miles per hour or less.

The car has a factory fault with the windshield wiper or turn signal contact switch, which is causing the inability to use the left/right signal and the wipers. The entire part is factory faulty, rendering the vehicle unable to operate safely. This affects visibility during wet conditions because the wipers cannot be activated due to the malfunctioning switch, which can lead to serious accidents. Additionally, malfunctioning left/right turning signals can also cause serious accidents, as it is a crucial function. Yes, the vehicle is available upon request. I contacted Volvo, but they declined to fix the issue. They have published a technical bulletin regarding the problem but are not recalling the vehicles. Many other Volvo models have the same factory defect, as can be found on the internet. The technical bulletin confirms their fault. I have attached the file. No, the vehicle has not been inspected. Yes, the vehicle shows a "turn indicator malfunction" message on the main screen. This issue started around 89k miles.

When driving slowly to enter a parking garage, the steering wheel on the car started to feel stiff, and as I completed the turn, there was a loud snapping sound. The dashboard showed an urgent fault saying “srs airbag urgent - drive to workshop”. I drove it to the Volvo dealer. The steering wheel was having problems turning left. When the dealer attempted to move the car, it was then unable to turn left at all. So, the steering wheel completely failed.
Passenger and driver side rear door lock are inoperable from outside and inside. The issue has been widely reported by other vehicle owners. The root cause has been reported as water damaging the locking mechanisms. Volvo redesigned the mechanisms but has not issued a recall.

Rear passenger door won’t open. We had freezing temps in colorado, when I tried to open the rear door to get my 2 month old out of the car the door would not open. Apparently this is a known problem for this vehicle the rear door motors spontaneously stop working.
When driving and stop in a traffic light, for example, the Volvo ignition going off and I have to re-start it. The problem is rooted probably in the fuse associated with Volvo's stop/start motor. I found that other models have had the same problem, like the recall#r39574 and the reference safety campaign #15v555000. If the fuse blows in traffic, it could increase the risk of an accident, especially a rear-end collision.
All of the electronics are malfunctioning, no navigation, possible airbag and seatbelt malfunction, warning lights on. I am concerned that all of the electronic safety systems are not working properly. Internal sos button not working. Herb chambers Volvo in norwood, MA. Service manager has confirmed that this is a problem with the 2024 Xc90. The car is brand new and herb chambers Volvo does not have any available appointments for several weeks to address concerns. I also contacted Volvo USA and they were unable to assist. I have also requested that the area Volvo factory rep, tom laforte contact me and I have not heard back from him. In the meantime we are unable to drive our new Volvo due to these safety concerns.
The dim (driver/driving instrument module), also known as the dashboard, on my vehicle suddenly stopped showing anything (speed, gas or battery charge level, etc. ) recently, although there is still power (I could see the background lighting in the dark) and the vehicle can still be driven. This is certainly a severe safety issue. I had my vehicle checked at a Volvo dealership shop; their diagnosis concluded that the entire dim needs to be replaced; software update alone won't solve the issue. I shared this issue at a social media site (Volvo Xc90 owners club at facebook) and several others said to have had the same or similar issues with the dim. I'd suggest Volvo to recall this safety issue.
On a travel trip to seattle, we stopped at few stop, and when my son's tried to exit the rear doors, both would not open. Neither from the inside or outside. Nothing worked. Upon searching, this is a very common issue with the 2016+ models. When inquiring with Volvo, it will cost anywhere from 1000-2000 per door to fix the "locking" mechanism which they say can corrode. Ridiculous. This is a major safety issue if passengers can't exit. I've never had a car which a door can't be opened.
There are many form online stating that Volvo has an issue with water leaking/water drainage line from the sunroof. The water leaked into some components of the airbag and electrical system. After the first time taking to the dealership they were no issue with the system and the vehicle was fine that incident happened back in 2020. The same issue happened again where water was leaking in from the sunroof area (I am assuming because it looks the same as last time) this time the water is in the driver side, and there was a puddle of water forming where the gas and brake paddles are. After noticing the water puddle I try to close the sunroof and turns out the sunroof no longer functions with the electronic control right in front of the sunroof. I also took the initiative to open some of the trims where the side air bags are and it turns out that the area are completely soaked. I do no know if this will cause an issue to the airbag or not but I am worries that prolong exposure to water will compromised the integrity of the airbag system. What's was is that since it affected the electronic for the sunroof what if it affect the sensors for the air bag system.
Front sensor not detecting objects when parking. First time the dealership checked it, they said it was operating as designed. The second time, while driving on the freeway, I got a blind spot sensor service required warring error on dashboard. The dealership said that there was a bug residue on the outside sensor.
The vehicle is equipped with wireless phone charger. I was charging my phone and could not lift it off the charger with my bare hand. According to the dealership test, their test started at 80 degrees fahrenheit and tested after 10 minutes at 102 degrees fahrenheit. The dealership stated that the charger is operating as designed. The phone was too hut to handle and could have caused an accident.
The vehicle locking system malfunctioned, locking itself with the keys inside the vehicle. The vehicle was in park, the engine was off, I was only out of the vehicle for 30 seconds to 1 minute in time while filling my gas tank. My dog was inside the vehicle, in the back with no access to door locks or keys, it was outside, he was locked in the car for 30minutes until the fire department arrived and broke the rear passenger a window. The vehicle will go in for diagnostic testing 9/12/23 at a Volvo dealership. Volvo USA refused to note the safety concern, they believe the vehicle operated as designed to self-lock if you forget. My vehicle has never self locked in the 1. 5 years of owning it, rather it sends you an alert to your phone to inform you that it is unlocked- it does not lock itself. There have been no lights to alert of any possible concerns.
The contact's father owns a 2022 Volvo Xc90. The contact stated that upon entering the garage where the vehicle was parked, he became aware that the vehicle was idling and had turned on remotely. The contact stated that a message displayed on the instrument panel stated that the vehicle was remotely started by an unknown app. An undisclosed dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled. The contact was concerned for his family’s safety. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the app had been deactivated and advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 11,400.
I own a 2016 Xc90 that was regularly serviced by the Volvo dealer we bought the car from. My son and I were in my car on 08/02/2023 and we were at a stop light and something smelt a little off so my son put his window down to get fresh air. Then, we accelerated when the light turned green. Within 100 yds of accelerating my check engine light when on and simultaneously I lost acceleration. It was clear that something was wrong. I told my son we needed to unbuckle our seat belts and jump out of the car when I could get us safely stopped. We coasted into a parking lot where I found a safe spot to stop. While coasting I looked at my car screen to see if there was oil or other fluid that was low, but there was no indicator of a problem other than the check engine light that had just gone on at the same time as I lost the ability to accelerate. When the car stopped, I grabbed my purse next to me and before we were to the sidewalk the car was engulfed in smoke and then flames. Our lives were at risk within two minutes of the check engine light coming on. This car was on fire in a parking lot of a pediatricians office around other cars with young families inside. It was scary and extremely unsafe for my son and I and many other people who were around the vehicle. Our car received each recall replacement/fix that was identified. This was extremely scary and unsafe, it put our lives and others' lives at risk within 2 minutes. We along with many others called 911, the situation was immediately out of control.
The infotainment system has locked up and has shut completely off while driving. When it shuts down (screen goes black) or glitches, the car actually loses power. Luckily it powered right back on but it was scary and could happen again and be much worse. The screen/ infotainment system has had this issue for awhile. We’ve even told Volvo of tulsa about it when it was in for service but they said they couldn’t do anything about it because they couldn’t reproduce the issue. We have also had the brakes and rotors replaced twice at the dealership because they seem to be lemons or faulty. We are currently dealing with vibration once again (conveniently now the warranty is out).

It came to my attention this summer that my 2016 Volvo Xc90 has an extensive sunroof drainage problem that has resulted in major leaks in the interior of the car and that has destroyed the electrical system which impacts everything (airbags, speed control, back up camera, object alert warnings, etc. It was impossible to have knowledge of this problem until it was too late (like cancer). Many dashboard lights came on, the car was acting funning, back-up camera did not work, ac worked intermittently, standing water in trunk, headliner water damage, etc. Onboard diagnostic system also not working. I have attached the preliminary report but dealership saying they need to pull up carpets, seats and dash to get to a full diagnosis. Here's summary I put together(Volvo corp won't really communicate w/consumer). I have photos if needed: I also spent time the last several days continuing to do my research. It takes little more than a google search to understand the widespread sunroom drainage/leak issue with many Volvos. . Read more...
The contact owns a 2016 Volvo Xc90. The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced high oil consumption. After adding oil to the engine, the message "oil level low" was display within three weeks. Additionally, while operating the vehicle the message "low engine function" had displayed and the vehicle would not properly accelerate and was jerking. The contact also discovered puddles of water inside the rear trunk of the vehicle with electrical wires and components submerged in the water. The vehicle had experienced various electrical failures with the back-up camera malfunctioning. In addition, there was mold inside the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were contacted regarding the failures. The failure mileage was 75,000. The VIN was not included.
On may 18, 2023, the vehicle was not driveable and it was not able to be taken out of the park mode. The vehicle had no power so the engine would not start regardless of what the tow truck driver tried. The car had to be pulled onto the tow truck so the tires did not move. On June 10, 2023, due to a backlog. The Volvo dealership was finally able to look at the vehicle. They stated "error codes in the computer indicate an internal defect in the high-voltage battery. Even after consultation with Volvo technical support, we cannot avoid removing and opening the battery to replace a part inside the battery. " due to a backlog and waiting for parts, they stated it would be 6 weeks before they could repair. On July 28, 2023, the Volvo dealership repair stated, "the first spare part (for the defective battery) that was delivered was unfortunately defective and had to be sent it back. " they will keep us up-to-date. The dealership is aware of the r10198 recall for the electronic control module.

The indicators do not work randomly and we have had near miss accidents. The bulbs are in good working order. The stalk functions correctly. The computer after several seconds flashes up a message that the system has failed. Clearly the system is not safe as it’s designed. If Volvo are using a computer system to operate the lights it should be sufficiently reliable and fault tolerant to maintain safe operation of the vehicle.
Unknown. . But water accumulated under the passenger seat under the amp and electrical components after a storm or rainy day. And its a lot of water when I brake I can hear a water fall. . And water rushing and moving along the bottom. Of the car as I am steering im worried that the wiring and electrical will be damaged by water exposure the battery always dies wires soaked and sitting in water underneath passenger and never can completely get the moisture smell out of front seat area. . Mildew. . Why is this water leaking or not draining correctly ??.

Hi, I had a 2016 Xc90 which has serious safety problems. The sunroof has a factory defect, leaking water into the car and causing failures in electronic systems and airbags. Many other owners have sued Volvo and won their cases. Additionally, the issue has been certified by the court, and there are technical bulletins published by Volvo addressing the problem. Yes. The water leak can damage entire electronic systems, such as airbags, the start-stop system, braking system, and lidar system. Once water enters any of these systems, it can lead to accidents and fires due to short circuits, posing a deadly risk. This issue can cause accidents or fires. No, but Volvo has published a bulletin, and there have been many court cases filed against Volvo since 2016. No, the vehicle has not been inspected. It's causing numerous random errors on the dashboard. This issue occurred approximately two weeks after I purchased the vehicle. . Read more...
The contact owns a 2018 Volvo Xc90. The contact stated that after coming to a stop at a stop signal, the vehicle had lost motive power. The contact stated that the vehicle was able to restart; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle failed to restart, and no warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the starter motor fuse needed to be replaced. The vehicle remained at the dealer awaiting the parts for the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 101,000.

The vehicle went into "turtle mode" on the freeway, abruptly started vibrating, reduced speed to a crawl, and then shut down. My family and I were trapped in the vehicle on the center divider of the freeway.
The door locks freeze shut in the winter. You cannot open the affected door(s). This is a widespread, serious safety issue and Volvo has done nothing about it. A passenger could die if unable to exit the vehicle. Note that both of my rear passenger door locks - not just the door seals, the locks - have done this repeatedly during my ownership. The vehicle is kept out of the elements in a garage.
Electric charging connector frozen. Electronic release inoperable, and no alternate way provided to disconnect charger from vehicle. As a result, vehicle is completely stuck in very cold weather.
My vehicle’s sos, on call safety functions no longer work. In addition my navigation system no longer works properly. In the event of an accident these key safety features would not be able to alert emergency services or locate my position. This is a direct result in a flawed vehicle modem that uses the 3g network not supported by cellular carriers. Volvo has a solution that would cost me $850 to remedy this safety design flaw. Volvo should fix this key safety issue as it puts my family at risk if we are involved in an accident.
The car starting leaking water into the rear view mirror in June. This wouldn’t be much of an issue, but the cars computer system for drive assist is located in this area and has caused the car to malfunction in all areas. This Xc90 pilot assist is now malfunctioning causing a huge safety issue. This is apparently a known problem with their cars with the panoramic sunroof, but is now a safety hazard. The Volvo dealership did not fix the issue and is now happening again effecting all of the electrical system.
The vehicle is equipped with park assist camera. It automatically activated when reverse gear is engaged. The camera is angled is a way where display screen on front dash shows about half inch of the license plate. According to the dealership, the camera could not be adjusted and it is operation according to factory specs. This is safety issue as it distract the driver.
Propulsion service required message one week after we picked up our new car. Three weeks later----check engine light. Soon after another propulsion service required. Each time, our dealership reset the computer. Three months into ownership, on I-84, traveling 75 mph in the far left lane: turtle mode light, loss of power, no propulsion, able to just get off the freeway on the left. Two hour wait for assistance on side of freeway in 98 degree heat. Dealership kept car for 40 days: replaced bdu, ac compressor, igm. Similar accounts of turtle mode and power failure from other 2022 Volvo owners on speedswede. Com. We are not driving our car. Someone is going to get run over by another vehicle if Volvo doesn't address the problem.
Main cooling system hose burst while driving down the road. Volvo dealer said extremely rare for this to occur. Car overheated, all warning lights appeared and coolant exploded under hood all while driving. Had to have repaired $1000. Also a water leak inside 3rd row & leaks from rear view mirror area. Caused electrical damage to main system computer module, had to have replaced $2000+. All work done at Volvo dealer. No frame damage,no missing parts, dealer stated unknown reason. Same thing is now happening a 2nd time and warranty will not cover water damage. Have spoken with others experiencing the same problem with roof leak. No alarms came on prior to combustion/main hose top engine area before break. Happend immediately, unexpectedly.
Water damage to the electrical system from blocked drainage by sunroof; potential mold damage.
