3 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2005 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 07/23/2010

2005 Volvo Xc90 t6, transmission failed after 64k miles. Transmission failed at highway speeds nearly causing an accident as the vehicle slowed unexpectedly on i95 in heavy traffic. Transmission failed after a program upgrade 3 weeks earlier. Transmission was slipping and transmission service light appeared causing the vehicle to be towed to the dealer. Dealer unable to find any fault codes but upgraded the software, "hoping this fixes it. . . " after complete failure, vehicle taken on flatbed to don beyer Volvo who diagnosed failure as a "transmission failure" the dealership offered to replace transmission and several other parts at no cost.

4 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2004 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 06/06/2010

Purchased an '04 Volvo Xc90 t6 on may 1st from a private seller. Did research on the vehicle through msn reliability, Volvo, etc. Only issue highlighted was engine concerns, not transmission. It wasn't until the transmission went out on June 6th that I found numerous consumer complaints about the transmission going out at around 60k miles. Mine went out at approx. 57k miles. I've contacted Volvo and asked about recalls, etc. And was told I should've driven my car, or had it towed 40+ miles to the dealership to have it diagnosed to then have it repaired at the dealership so that I might get a reimbursed. About two weeks prior to the "transmission service urgent" message on the dash I received a "coolant low stop engine. " I've taken my Volvo to a certified Volvo repair service where the cost is going to be $5,335. The transmission went out after getting off the interstate and coming to a stop at a red light. When I tried to accelerate the car just wound.

5 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2003 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 04/08/2010

My 2003 Volvo Xc90 has been to the dealer several times including over 3 times for same problem when I purchased the vehicle in 2006. All recalls have been fixed, front axle, wipers etc. I have purchased 4 sets of tires, tires boston Volvo installed and my 17 year old son received a complete blow out because wrong size tires. I continue taking to same dealer and since owning the car have had the same noises in front of car. Boston Volvo has stated in October and since owning the vehicle can find nothing wrong, April diagnosed with need new drive shaft after having car for 2 days but could not really fine anything but drive shaft. A strong fuel smell stated fuel pump does not need to be corrected. I need new muffler and taking to my own mechanic the real issue is transmission service urgent and need new transmission. Volvo did not diagnose this problem and my son is driving the car! my son is driving a lemon that is a danger to himself. Taking to Volvo does nothing, they cannot even diagnose and give wrong info given to me. I am currently up to over $8,000 in damages and still owe on this lemon. I need new transmission, muffler, still car vibrates and front end noises from whining, thumping etc.

6 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2004 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 01/16/2010

Failed transmission; sudden/unanticipated loss of acceleration; at dealership for complete transmission replacement including required replacement of radiator and fuel lines.

7 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2005 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 01/13/2010

I am the owner of a 2005 Xc90 Volvo with 79,000 miles on it and the transmission has failed and needs to be replaced. My car broke down on a busy interstate and I barely evaded a catastrophic accident when the trans failed and my vehicle came to an abrupt stop (endangering the life of my family of 7 traveling in the car). This common problem in the 2005 Xc90's automatic transmissions are well documented throughout the internet by Volvo owners. Additionally, shredded metal reached the radiator and other coolant departments that also now need to be replaced. The total cost of repairing the damage caused is $6,700. 00. I bought this car to provide my family a secure vehicle while I am deployed. I expected the vehicle to last at least to 100,000 miles. The car is only 4 years old and already needs the transmission replaced. . I contacted Volvo and it is taking them a long time to get back to me. My car is sitting at a repair shop while I wait for a phone call to see if they will help cover the costs or not. A Volvo technical support representative admitted to me that they are aware that this is a common problem with the 2005 model but are not saying that they would cover the expenses or initiate a recall, rather she said that they would "see" if they could assist me in some way. Again, I have not heard from them and continue to call but have not made any progress with them. After doing some research it is obvious that many Volvo owners of the Xc90 2005 are having the same problem and this needs to be addressed by the NHTSA so that Volvo is held accountable for a faulty product that has been clearly documented. There are thousands of posts on various forums detailing similar experiences. Volvo has done nothing to address this irrefutable problem. What is the NHTSA doing to force Volvo to initiate a recall?.

8 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2005 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 07/24/2009

I have a 2005 Volvo Xc90 t6 with 71000 miles on it. On 7/23/09 the transmission began to "slip" and I took it to the Volvo dealership on 7/24/09 for them to diagnose the problem. The transmission on this 4 year old vehicle need to be replaced at a cost of $5,300. 00. Volvo has been aware of the problem and so far has not owned up to responsibility. The transmission slips in low gears and upon acceleration. It is a safety issues because if the transmission slips while merging onto the highway it could cause an accident or at any other time for that matter. It is a very common problem and Volvo should make this a recall to protect the safety of their customers but thus far there has been no recall. The transmission is on back order for 1 - 2 months which is completely unacceptable from any consumer or safety standpoint.

9 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2003 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 12/31/2008

Power train - automatic transmission failure. Days after completing a 90,000 mile service and other repairs (brakes, broken engine mount bracket) and trip to boston from washington DC, the "transmission service urgent" message came up for the first time since purchasing the vehicle new in 2003 from don beyer Volvo in falls church, virginia. The failure occurred on new year's eve during a snow storm in the boston area. The closest dealership was closed for the holiday. On January 2, 2009, we brought the vehicle to dalzell Volvo in dedham, massachusetts. After conducting a diagnostic test, the service manager informed me that the transmission was failing and that radiator fluid had mixed with the transmission fluid. I was quoted a price of $7000 to replace the transmission, radiator, and related equipment. After researching this issue, I discovered that the transmission failure is widespread for Xc90 model years 2003-2004 and that this significant safety issue is well-known by Volvo. The vehicles covering these model years should have been recalled to replace the transmissions.

12 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2005 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 12/11/2007

The heater pipes that go through the firewall have corroded in less than 2 years and north point Volvo wants a $1,000. 00 to take of the dash and replace this part on the heater which in and of itself is only a $40. 00 part. This pipe should not be defective on a car that's less than two years old. Poor quality!!!!!!!!!!.

13 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2004 Volvo XC90

Failure Date: 04/26/2000

1. I was driving my vehicle when the transmission did not shift from 2nd gear up on the highway. The check engine light came on, coolant low and urgent service of transmission. 2. The transmission issue was constant. 3. We took our vehicle to the Volvo dealership garage. It was determined that we needed a transmission replacement as well as coolant and other engine parts replaced. We were told that the faulty transmission damaged these other parts. We spoke to Volvo customer service and they originally acknowledged a problem with the t6 transmissions and said that Volvo would pay for the parts but not labor. We found out the labor would be $2000 or more. We called Volvo back and spoke to a debbie that threatened us if we pushed for Volvo to pay for labor, she might take back the original offer of paying for parts and told us she might have been willing to pay for labor if we had used a Volvo dealership for all of the inspection or other service saying "money in and money out of Volvo".
