1 Differential Unit problem of the 2016 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 03/05/2021

While driving with adaptive cruse control on, I was approaching slower vehicle. I wanted to go around it without breaking. While driving already on high speed (70m/h) I press acceleration pedal so I can safely go around slower vehicle. I was half way into passing line (last left line), there was a car already behind me approaching with higher speed, when I suddenly completely lost power and lots of lights illuminated on the dash. Car behind me notice that I start loosing speed rapidly so he start braking that I could hear his tires. I didnt know what to do so I just kept going to emergency stopping line where I almost crash into the concrete divider. I manage to stop vehicle safely by pure luck. After stopping I notice that car is not shifting, and sh-awd system, blind spot ass, emission system and transmission system fault lights came on. I called insurance agent to send road side assistance, but while waiting on the call I start the car again (like 15min after this incident) and all lights were still on except transmission. I tried car and it was shifting normally now, except sh-awd was not working (I didnt have power to the rear differential). This could be very tragic event if both me and the driver behind me didnt react properly. I had two more passengers in the car, from which one was 15 months old child. I was reading that this could be transmission system update issue, but my dealer did update transmission already.

3 Differential Unit problem of the 2014 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 07/14/2014

On July 14 2014, was driving my new 2014 Mdx. Suddenly heard a noise like a flat tire. I pulled over to the shoulder and checked the tires. Didn’t see any flat. Checked the tire gauge and all reading good. Continued going where I had to go and the noise came back. It sounded like dump, dump, dump. The noises come and go at various speeds. Got back home and removed the spire tire, might be loose. Drove around the block and still heard the noise again. It’s getting dark and the following day was raining. Finally got good weather. Decided to move the car into the driveway and look under the car. As I was looking I could see the left rear axle boot was twisted and grease bleeding out. I decided to crawl under the car and saw the whole differential was loose. I could shake the unit. As I look closer, I could see 3 bolts missing and 1 barely holding the differential on the chasse. I called Acura service and told them about my problem and was told to bring it in. Called roadside service and had them put it on a flatbed. The dealer is replacing the left axle and bolts. I hope nothing else will come loose and this didn’t damage anything else.

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

While driving on highway the car the began shaking followed by a booming sound- similar to a tire explosion - and eventually tires locked up causing vehicle to skid. Dealer repair shop diagnosed as a "rear differential failure" and repaired. However, two days after the repair, the problem manifested again, this time there was no "shaking" and wheels seemed to lock up while driving at 40 mph causing driver to lose control and car to skid.
