3 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2002 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 09/13/2013

Driving on the freeway, transmission disengaged and engine revved up to red line. Car had no power and lost speed. Close call with other vehicles, including semi trucks. Had to pull into far right lane and was only able to go around 30 mph since the car continued to rev and the transmission engaged and disengaged. Engine light came on and d5 light on dash started flashing. Took it to a mechanic who said transmission needs to be replaced. In investigating, this appears to be a common problem with this model year. Car is worth $6500 in good shape, but with this issue, it is now only worth $2000.

4 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2003 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 10/31/2010

Twice in the last 3 days, the transmission in my 2003 Acura Mdx spontaneously slipped into neutral, I. E. , disengaged from drive and left me w/o power to the wheels. The shift lever remained in drive and had not been touched. The latter occurrence stranded me in the middle of an intersection with oncoming traffic. Several attempts at shifting into park and back into drive were required before drive actually engaged. An internet search easily turned up many similar instances in which 2003 Mdx owners indicated that their transmissions intermittently disengaged from drive.

5 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2004 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 07/06/2010

After backing out of my driveway and shifting the car into d5 the transmission would not engage and was completely slipping. After shifting to a lower gear I was able to get the car to drive and then shifted back into d5. Upon slowing and then trying to accelerate again the transmission again completely failed to engage and hat to be shifted into the lowest gear to re-engage the transmission. Also, on several occasions while trying to pass other vehicles the transmission would again completely slip. Also at points where I would enter traffic from a side street or parking lot as I have tried to enter traffic at an opening the transmission would fail to engage which has created very dangerous situations where we have almost been in a very bad accident.
