Steering Problems of Acura TL - part 1

My wife, [xxx] , purchased a 2005 Acura Tl on [xxx]. The car was not inspected, it had a hole in the oil tank, was leaking battery acid, had broken control arms, wore out rotors, wore out brake pads, bald tires, vehicle stability control disabled, no ac, cracked dashboard where the passenger air bag is located, and the alignment was so bad that the car would try to pull very hard off of the road. Toxic hot fumes entered the cockpit during my wife's drive home from the car dealership. The fumes made her feel sick and gave her a horrible headache because of the leaking battery acid and perhaps the hole in the oil tank. It's a health and safety issue that needs to be taken seriously. The used car dealership (premium auto outlet inc. ) is selling vehicles to customers and are not providing them with the title. My wife paid in full, yet she had to fight to receive the title. The employees scream at there customers, including my wife and also tell them to leave the property when asking for the title and when confronted about vehicle mechanical issues. The female employee even screamed over the phone at our mechanic (delran auto repair) who tried to tell the employee that the car was not is sellable condition due to the safety and mechanical problems. Please review the google reviews and facebook reviews for more horrible customer experiences when it comes vehicles being sold in horribly unsafe mechanical condition, withholding titles, unlawfully repossessing, screaming at customers and ignoring customer complaints. The best resolution for my wife and I would be for the dealership to pay for all of the repair bills that accrued (roughly $4k) due to the car being sold in unsafe condition and most importantly the prevention of any health and safety issues due to the selling of unsafe mechanically condition vehicles to future customers. After driving the vehicle for about 30 minutes a red flashing dash warning light came on with an alarm that there is a power steering problem, after which power steering was lost. Parked the vehicle for two hours to have dinner and then proceeded home with normal steering until reaching home when the same dash warning light and alarm occurred. The following day had vehicle towed to dealership to diagnose the problem. They could not duplicate the problem, and no computer code of failure was recorded, therefore they could not therefore proceed to execute a repair, so I picked up the vehicle and drove home. I called Honda customer service to open a case number for my issue and the called the following day and basically told me what the dealership told me. I have since driven the vehicle several times without issue, however, am concerned that my wife is the primary driver and being elderly will have extreme difficulty in maneuvering the vehicle if she encounters a power steering failure.

The contact owns a 2008 Acura Tl. The contact stated that the power steering fluid reservoir needed to be refilled more often than expected, making it difficult to steer the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle occasionally lost power steering functionality. The contact stated that the vehicle safety assist (vsa) system failed and the vsa modulator control illuminated on the instrument panel. The failure of the vsa system had caused the locking mechanisms and seat belts to fail to operate as needed. The contact became aware of NHTSA campaign numbers: 12v222000 (steering) and 08v091000 (steering); and linked the failure to the recalls. The dealer was contacted, and an appointment was scheduled. The dealer confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recalls. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 164,000.

My car caught on fire from under the hood. Me and my son was sitting in the car and it just caught on fire. I was scared and didn't know how it happen. I drove an hour and thiry plus minutes to my destination and when I got there. I parked my car and sat in it while I waited for the phone repair show to open up.

My car has a recall on the high pressure power steering line because it prematurely fails and douses the catalytic converter in power steering fluid. The problem is the low pressure hose going back is just as susceptible if not more but no recall? I was told at the dealership it would cost 3,489 dollars to fix a fire hazard they knew damn well existed. The car is a safety hazard and I pray everyday the car doesnt catch fire because of the dealers greediness. I looked up estimates for other customers of Acura and the repair should come out to 1200 not 3489. 00. These are bad practices that quite frankly put myself and others on the road at risk. The contact stated that after his wife had dropped him off at work, she was driving at an undisclosed speed when the steering wheel became stiff and difficult to maneuver. No warning lights was illuminated. The contact then stated that his wife had parked the vehicle in the garage when she then heard an exploding sound where the vehicle was parked. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the contacts wife noticed that the vehicle was inflamed. No injuries were sustained. No medical attention was required. The fire department was called and extinguished the fire. A police nor fire report was filed. The vehicle had not yet been diagnosed or repaired. The contact then stated that upon research, he noticed that the VIN was included in the NHTSA campaign number: 12v222000 (steering). The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacture was notified of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was previously included in the NHTSA campaign number: 12v222000 (steering) however, the recall had been completed and the contact was provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 176,930.

Power steering high pressure hose is leaking on the catalytic converter. Smoke billows into the cabin of the vehicle. This makes driving with window down necessary. Afraid continued leakage will start a fire in engine compartment. Obtained a new high pressure hose but afraid that the catalytic converter will do the same thing over time. Will bring the vehicle in for maintenance but could not find recall for my VIN number associated with vehicle.

In December of 2022, my power steering hoses were found to be leaking. This was confirmed by a local mechanic, but not any manufacturers or insurance reps. There were no warning lights or symptoms prior to this happening. Upon my research, I noticed that there is a standing recall for the 2004 Acura Tl, but not for my specific VIN. I believe that my issue may be related to this recall (08v-091) and believe this recall should be added to my vehicle.

The contact owns a 2005 Acura Tl. The contact stated that she had parked her vehicle and went inside a store as her children waited inside the vehicle. Her son then texted her from inside the vehicle that the alarm had gone off. Soon after the alarm went off, her daughter noticed that both a white and black colored smoke began to emit from the vehicle. Her children exited the vehicle as the front end of the vehicle caught fire. Pedestrians called for the authorities as both the police and fire departments arrived at the scene. The fire was extinguished and an incident report was filed(#22331-0240). No injuries were reported; another vehicle was damaged as a result of the fire. The vehicle had yet to be towed or removed from the scene of the incident. Prior to the failure, the contact had noticed that while driving at highway speeds, heat would emit from vents despite the a/c being turned off. Upon investigation, the contact linked her failure to NHTSA campaign number: 08v091000(steering). The dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 200,300.

I purchased this used car and while driving the vsa (vehicle stability assis) light comes on with the accompanying trianlge with exclamation point. When the light comes on while driving the car will tug you to the right. Once you stop the vehicle and turn off and re-start the light will turn off. As you drive again, the light comes on and tugs the vehicle to the right. When we purchased the vehicle I drove it home with my 16 year old (it is planned to be his first car) and I was on the highway going 60 and the vsa light came on and tugged the vehicle to the right. I did not lose control but it can definitely catch someone off guard and cause them to over correct. I took the car in to a local auto shop and they said there was a fault on the vsa module and a couple of other issues. I spent $1,300 to replace both front bearings, hubs, 1 speed control sensor because they recommended that be done before looking to replace the vsa modulating assembly ($1,800 + install). . I was driving down hwy 101 in oregon state in the rain. I was accelerating because I had just turned onto the highway, I got up to about 60 mph whe the car started dinging as it does when you open the door with the keys still in the ignition. The vsa light, as well as the engine, oil, abs and battery lights all started flashing on the dash and the car turned off. The steering wheel locked up and I had to throw it in neutral, turning the key back and forth from the off position to the start position to get it to unlock right before I crashed into on coming traffick! there has been nothing wrong with the car other than routine maintenance an absolutely no signs anything is wrong with the car. It has 168436 miles on it and has been religiously maintained. There is a serious problem with this vehicle for something like this to happen. I've owned hundreds of cars and never experienced anything like this happening, ever!.

I was driving my 2013 Acura Tl on my way to work and suddenly I got an electronic power steering error that resulted in my steering wheel stiff and I had to use all my strength to pull over to the emergency lane. The vehicle's steering became very heavy and was very hard to turn. I am fortunate not to be in an accident when it occurred. There is so many people with Acura Tl having this issue and Acura need to do something about it.

The contact owns a 2004 Acura Tl. The contact stated that while driving at 10 - 15 mph, a burning odor was detected and smoke was coming from under the hood of the vehicle. The contact inspected under the hood and noticed there was fluid leaking onto the catalytic converter that was causing the smoke. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 08v091000 (steering) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

While crossing median ahead of oncoming traffic, electric power steering lost power, leaving me unable to steer to avoid collision. Steering warning began to flash but gave no advance warning. I was not strong enough to steer the car. Engine was running. Car is available for inspection. Honda dealer said they had never seen this problem. Power steering is still inoperative and the dealer says no recalls for t his problem.

While driving in heavy traffic and making a right turn,the power steering screen began to blink and immediately the power steering locked up. I had to manually turn the wheel and was able to over to the side and stop. After several minutes, the wheel finally unlocked and I pulled into a parking lot where it occurred again. I turned the key on and the unlocked wheel began to work again after making it home, I checked the drivers manual and found nothing. I checked complaints and found 95 instances but no recalls. It was very frightening for this situation and dangerous. This happened on July 14,2021.

I noticed that my power steering hose is all dirty and full of built up power steering fluid and my airbag light in the dash screen does not come off. I’m concerned the air bag will fail in the events of an accident.

Torque converter has difference of 200rpm or greater than causing trans to over heat and fail power steering line allowing air into system. System locked up while driving air bag sensor won't sent code.

My power steering has gone out I think hose busted hard to steer and transmission is slipping reverse is going out.

After having my car in the shop for 2 weeks trying to figure out why the power steering won't stop freaking exploding when there is nothing wrong with any of the parts except the hoses going bad. I once again was left in the middle of a busy street with no power steering trying to muscle my way back to the shop. This is ridiculousssssss. Why are they not telling us their cars have issues!!!!!.

2013 Acura Tl steering got locked after check power steering system, this is very risky if I was on highway and would have happen during driving. Such problems needs to be addressed by CO ASAP as this is life threatening to driver including passengers in vehicle during problem. Steering is locked and can't move in any direction.

I was driving home with my kids and the steering practically locked up, but I was still going about 50 mph. Thankfully, we didn't get hit while I guided the car over to stop safely. The panel just told me to check the steering system. . . While I was trying not to get hit after losing all power to my steering with no warning while driving. Had vehicle towed home, as it was nighttime. Now I have to get it sent to someone who might tell me anything. This looks like a serious trend based off of what I've read on this sight. It's dangerous and I'm sure getting it fixed will be costly. This is a serious issue on many levels.

Could had an accident I was on the freeway and all of a sudden the light on my car came on saying that the power steering had gone out at that time I realize that I could not control the car it was hard I had to get a feel for it to turn it so I could pull off to the side and then that's when I called aaa to come and tow the car because I could not steer it. My car has 75,000 miles only. That's a major part that was a very frightening experience.

I was driving my 2013 Acura Tl on the interstate when I got an �electronic power steering � error that resulted in my steering wheel required me to use all my strength to pull over to the emergency lane. The vehicle's steering became very heavy and was very hard to turn. I am fortunate that my wife was not driving, because she would not have had the strength to pull over to the emergency lane without power steering. Acura should be ashamed of themselves to not have issued a recall for this issue.

While backing out of my garage the check "electronic power system" indicator light came on as I was backing into the street out of my driveway. As I entered the street the steering wheel locked and would not let me turn the wheel to complete turning to straighten the wheels to drive forward. I was literally stuck in the middle of the street and I live on the downside of a hill so cars can't see me until they top the hill, fortunately my husband was home and helped push the car back into the driveway. Although not as scary as some of the incidents I have read about the eps module failing, I understand the fear they must have had with this happening on a busy highway or street. I now have to have my car towed to the nearest Acura dealership which is 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic because I'm to afraid to drive on the freeway. The cost of repair that was quoted is astronomical, $420 labor, $780. 06 for the part. . . Not to mention the tow$$. Really. . . Acura/Honda, you got to know this is a safty issue if there ever was one! what will it take. . . A grandmother (like me) driving her grand kids to daycare to lose control before you acknowledge this is a problem. Nhtsa, please follow up!.

Received diagnostic message to check power steering system. Loss control of the vehicle because I could not turn the wheel on the vehicle which almost caused an accident. My mechanic indicated that this was a computer issue and recommended that I take it to the Acura dealership for service.

In July 2020, with 82143 miles, my power steering completely stopped working.

I was about to drive in to my garage when I felt my steering wheel had some resistance and hard to maneuver. The driver panel says "check power steering system!" as I parked the car in the garage, I turned off the car and turned it back on, warning message disappeared. Power steering went back to normal. A week later, as I was driving the freeway, "check power steering system!" reappeared. There was some resistance on the power steering while I was driving. When I reached our driveway, I turned off the car and then turned it back on, but the warning message still appears on the drive panel. I went ahead and set-up appointment online at Acura concord on June 23, 2020 at 0730 for service.

I have a 06 Acura Tl and for the last few months I have heard a very winding up and down noise under the hood, when I am turning one way or the other it gets louder . I noticed a recall on my vehicle but Acura tells me no ! I took it to a shops and they informed me that it's my power steering hose leaking/ could be bad . . I have had this car for 5 years and I take good care of my car , but lately all these problems are coming full circle. I find recalls and when I call them about it they said it's not my car but I see on the website that it is , but not my VIN # !.

I had driven about 10-15mins from my home, my 4yr old son in the backseat. We were going to walmart to retrieve a few items. As I'm approaching the store I turn from a main street into the stores parking lot. As I see a parking spot and go to make a left turn lights flash on my dash and my steering wheel would not move. Trying to then avoid cars while unable to maneuver the wheel I drove straight to the very back of the store into a parking spot. Called my insurance company to get a tow. If I happened to be on the highway I would have caused a horrible accident. Very scary experience. Apparently Honda has extended the warranty on the eps system but because I have a salvage title vehicle my warranties have been terminated. Because this is a huge safety hazard it should be a recall!!!.

My car power steering became hard to turn had a light to turn on to check steering system took to the shop they said is a electric situation than the dealers has extended 15 year guarantee want to know details for reverse me what need to send.

Driving on freeway, warning light and bell started going off and I had no steering! steering wheel was completely stiff. Scary! definitely grateful I didn't wreck.

Airbag: cracked dashboard above airbag. Abs off steering: (in motion and when stationary) steering wheel moaned while turning wheel/driving and even after parking and turning steering wheel. Brakes: (in motion) when going down on dips on road, brakes make noise and seem to slip.
