36 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/19/2025

The mmi or infotainment center turns off and reboots/kicks user out while the car is in motion and also while stopped. The mmi going off has cut out while backing up not allowing the rear camera to be used and has also not allowed the front and rear sensors to be used for parking/auto breaking. There seems to be a large portion of similar complaints and unknown fixes for 2020 models either exactly the same or similar. Personally have not had it inspected or attempted to fix outside the recommended soft reset, user account reset, and even unplugging battery to reset as well. No fix has been identified or has proven to not cause the issue from recurring. This has occurred more frequently in past week or so ~15jun where it rebooted once in an two drive, 16jun no reboots for 1. 5 hour min drive, 17jun one reboot for 1. 5 hour drive, and 19jun where it rebooted 7 times in 2 hour drive. There is no warning and seems to be random or when on full screen maps through android auto.

37 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/18/2025

Audi mmi (display console/dashboard cluster) randomly turns off and reboots while driving.

38 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/11/2025

The infotainment screen (mmi) responsible for rear camera, cross traffic alert, entertainment and controls some crucial vehicle functions tends to shut off by itself while driving. This issue occurs constantly and it's very sporadic. Nothing triggers this just the car decides to do it on it's own. This causes me to lose visuals of my surrounding, and sensor information and the ability to listen to maps and music. Raises a major safety concern.

39 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/11/2025

A permanent failure of the emergency call module control unit and communication unit. The affected vehicles will not be able to establish an online connection. No gps, bluetooth and system rebooting constantly.

40 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/10/2025

Radio keeps cutting off and on randomly, nothing it seeming to fix the problem and all 2020 A4 owners have been running into this. It is also messing with backup camera. This needs to get brought to attention and find a solution.

41 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/05/2025

The mmi (multi media interface) system is the component that failed. It began repeatedly rebooting, making critical features like apple carplay, navigation, Audio controls, and the rear-view camera inoperable. The failure became progressively worse after two separate repair attempts, including a software update. The 5f module, which governs infotainment, has been identified by the dealership as the part requiring replacement. Yes, the vehicle and failed component are available for inspection upon request. The malfunction disables the rear-view camera, which is a critical safety feature especially when parking or reversing in tight spaces. It also prevents access to navigation and voice-activated phone controls, which can increase distraction if drivers attempt to manually use a mobile device as a workaround while driving. The constant rebooting also creates visual and Audible distractions in the cabin. Yes, the problem has been confirmed by an authorized Audi dealership (Audi of smithtown). After the initial repair failed to resolve the issue, the dealership attempted the repair a second time. Following further analysis, they recommended a $5,200 repair involving replacement of the 5f module, which supports that they confirmed the problem exists and persists. The issue has been inspected and diagnosed by an authorized Audi dealership (Audi of smithtown), but there is no mention of inspection by Audi of America, police, or insurance representatives at this time. There were no warning lamps or dashboard messages, but the primary symptom was the mmi system randomly rebooting. Initially, the reboots were occasional, but over time became constant to the point where the system was entirely unusable. This issue was present before the June 5, 2025 service visit and worsened significantly after the second repair attempt on June 21, 2025.

42 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/02/2025

The mmi system, which displays navigation and other controls, shuts down and restarts frequently while the car is in motion. The problem occurs at least once every trip, and typically every 10 minutes. In my case, I use apple carplay as my navigation system, and the sudden and unexpected loss of navigation poses serious safety risks to me and others, because I either need to pick up my phone to see the map or make a sudden driving maneuver to correct my course. The incident occurred with two other phones, and even when no phone was connected to the car. And it also happened when another person in my household was driving. So the problem is not phone or driver-dependent. I have not yet brought the car to the Audi dealership for diagnostic service.

43 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/02/2025

Mmi (infotainment), and the dashboard screen will turn off randomly and reboot every 2 minutes. This is incredibly dangerous as it turns all sound off, and driving visuals like directions, and freezes or reboots, not where you last had it but from a different check point. It has happened while I have been backing up and backup camera has rebooted during backup. Parking collision has also malfunctioned multiple times - but primary issue is the mmi rebooting even while driving on the freeway.

44 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/01/2025

The Audi mmi screen has started shutting off and rebooting then giving errors when trying to reboot. Caused a problem while we were using vehicle navigation in nyc and also lost backup guidance when parallel parking. Also dangerous in that it distracts driver with error messages. This started about two months ago once or twice a day but now happens every 2 to 5 minutes.

45 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 05/29/2025

The mmi screen ( infotainment system on dash) frequently turns off while driving. The system requires several minutes to reboot each time. During the reboot process, the backup camera and safety sensors do not work. Additionally, many other features do not work during the reboot apple car play, phone, navigation, radio and garage door opener. The issue started in February 2025 and has persisted during each use of the car thereafter. The reboot will typically occur every few minutes while the car is on.

46 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 05/23/2025

While driving, the infotainment screen (mmi system) randomly reboots without warning. This happens frequently, often multiple times during a single trip. When it restarts, the screen goes black and temporarily disables important functions like the navigation, rear-view camera, Audio, and vehicle settings. This poses a safety risk by distracting the driver and making it difficult to safely reverse or park. I brought the vehicle to the dealership, and they confirmed the only solution is to replace the mmi system. However, I’ve seen many other Audi A4 owners online report the exact same issue. Given how widespread this appears to be, I believe this should be addressed as a manufacturer defect rather than a repair cost placed on the owner. There were no warning lights or messages before the screen began to fail.

47 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 05/15/2025

The vehicle multimedia interface (mmi) has randomly rebooted itself on every trip for the past three months. This condition has occurred while reversing the vehicle, leaving the rear camera view blank.

48 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 05/14/2025

The mmi (multimedia interface) will periodically restart during drives, including while the backup camera and other safety systems are active. The restart limits ability to use safety features such as the backup camera or sensors. The system displays a message that states the “user hasn’t been used in an extended period of time” and then the system begins the reboot. This issue first began around February 2025 and has only continued to get worse and more frequent over time. It appears to be related to software changes as nothing else about the vehicle have changed during that time.

49 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 05/01/2025

The mmi or the entire system reboots wile driving, including times when backing up. Making the rearview camera to go blank and led to possible accident. I also rely on navigation system to drive as there are numerous exits and turns for commute, but the system randomly reboots and turns the whole system off. This is causing major safety issues.

50 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 05/01/2025

The infotainment/mmi system constantly reboots. This system is linked to the rear view camera, navigation, and hands free phone. When it reboots, those systems fail. This appears to be a widespread issue for the 2020+ Audis.

51 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 05/01/2025

Started with saying “checking remote access rights,” and then saying I (the key user) hadn’t been signed in for awhile and I needed to re-login. I was dealing with that but now it’s just randomly shutting off while I’m driving…. . In a 30 min drive it does it at least once but as many as 4 times. If I’m using my maps from carplay, on a call or using my backup camera it just completely stops and reboots, which takes a min or two before it comes back up. Multiple times I’ve missed turns due to the map going out. It’s dangerous! took it to the dealer for oil change and mentioned the issue… dealer acted as if it wasn’t a known issue, and said they could charge me the $300? diagnostic hourly rate to take the dash apart and diagnose (bc of course now it’s out of warranty). I called the Audi mmi tech support and they attempted to help me, had to open a ticket for level 2 escalation support…. I waited 3-4 days and then level 2 said they couldn’t help me and I needed to see the dealer. So frustrating and have noticed so many others with similar models and same year having the same issue on reddit. Here’s an example…. 52 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/15/2025

While driving. These reboots typically happen every 5–10 minutes and result in the temporary loss of safety-critical features like the backup camera, navigation system, and rear cross-traffic alert. The screen goes black, and the system restarts itself while the vehicle is in motion, which is both distracting and potentially dangerous. I brought the issue to my local Audi dealer, who attempted two separate software updates. Unfortunately, the problem continues. The service department reports no faults in the system diagnostics and has stated that they currently do not know how to fix the issue. This persistent malfunction affects key safety systems and creates significant concern when driving.

53 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/10/2025

Mmi (infotainment system) shuts down periodically while vehicle is being driven or is idling in park. Radio, navigation, etc. , are affected. Also, the vehicles' collision warning system shuts down at the same time. Generally, the system will reboot itself within a few minutes. There is no real pattern to this issue as it may occur several times during a short trip in the car. The next day it may not happen at all. I contacted Audi dealer who stated they are not familiar with this issue and knew of no fixes.

54 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/09/2025

The mmi system in car will shut down and reboot many times while driving. If in the process of backing up or parking, it will disable the parking sensors as well. I have taken into dealership and they claim it is an iphone update issue. I have contacted apple, they are not aware of any such issue.

55 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

The mmi system which contains the backup camera and warnings, navigation, phone and radio goes blank and reboots. Continually does this at any time. You can be backing up in a parking lot and the screen goes black. Audi has tried to fix several times and continues to happen. Numerous complaints about this on Audiworld and reddit. Major across the board problem with the vehicle.

56 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

Mmi system in the radio. It turns off about every 20 mins and restarts on its own. Maps and directions disappear, causing me to enter the information again. It ends phone calls. It is extremely distracting, especially when I lose my location/directions. I have often times missed my turns. This has been going on for approximately 3 months. I will not let my son or daughter drive this vehicle due to the electrical failure.

57 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

The mmi (the infotainment system on the dash) randomly turns off and resets every few minutes. This is a widespread issue based on a quick google search.

58 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

The infotainment system (mmi) in my 2020 Audi A4, currently running software version 3243, frequently reboots on its own while driving. When this happens during reverse, the rearview camera shuts off and the screen goes black, eliminating all rear visibility and creating a significant safety hazard. Additionally, the reboot causes apple carplay to disconnect mid-drive, resulting in loss of navigation, traffic alerts, and voice directions, which increases driver distraction and risk. The issue occurs without warning lights or error messages—the screen simply goes black and restarts in a few seconds to a few minutes. The problem began a few months ago and has become more frequent over time. While I have not yet had the issue inspected by a dealer, it is widely documented by other 2020 A4/a5. . Owners and has been resolved in many cases by updating the mmi software to version 3696. Audi has issued related technical service bulletin (TSB 2078437/1), but no recall or service campaign has been announced. I believe this is a manufacturer defect that poses a safety risk and should be investigated. The affected components remain in the vehicle and are available for inspection upon request.

59 Electrical System problem of the 2021 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/27/2025

I have a 2021 Audi A4 that is also being affected by the instrument cluster failure/recall. My model , A4 was not included but I am experiencing the same failure and this was reported to the dealership. An online search will show just how many people have issues with the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster screen just went out while driving. I have to monitor my functions via the app on my phone. The dealer wants to charge me full price when every other model in 2021 has been recalled for the same issue. The A4 should be added to the instrument cluster recall for 2021 Audi.

60 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/24/2025

The mmi system in the car spontaneously reboots, every 2-5 minutes. During reboot, the screen goes black and systems such as the backup camera, rear cross traffic detection, rear collision warning, and navigation are lost until the reboot completes and the user has to cycle thru multiple input & loading screens to get back to full functionality. Given the length of time the reboot requires, often the screen gets back to usability, only to reboot again less than a minute later. The reboots are random and occur whether the radio is off, radio playing; bluetooth connected, not connected; android auto running/not running; car moving, car parked; engine off, engine on; cold weather/hot weather; wet weather/dry weather. This should be considered a safety issue, as the reboots can happen in the middle of a reverse parking maneuver, and they render the backup camera and obstacle detection sensors completely inoperative until the system reloads. They also impact safety on the highway, as the reboots completely disable the navigation screens, and require multiple user input to restore, while driving.

61 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/13/2025

Infotainment systems randomly reboot, which can happen when reversing, and reverse camera goes black during the incident is a safety concern.

62 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/10/2025

The mmi in the car constantly reboots. Started occasionally doing it once a drive, would restart and then go right back to what I was at. Then it would restart multiple times a trip, not going where I was at. If I had music on it would lower the volume it was rebooted to or go to a different song. The screen would also freeze for a few minutes after in being rebooted. Took it to Audi, they installed an “update” now it reboots every 3-5 minutes, causing serious safety concerns with no access to the mmi stystem.

63 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/10/2025

The mmi (infotainment) system in my 2020 Audi A4 start to have intermittent reboot issue during normal driving starting earlier this year. It was working expected without reboot until that time. The mmi system reboot creates harzards and danger for drivers because during rebooting, the whole navigation system is not working neither did carplay. What's even worse is that the back up camera and radar will also be disabled during rebooting. The rebooting time varies from 10s of seconds to minutes, with black screen and/or laggy, frozen screen. After rebooting, the system will have error prompt such as 'the selected user has not been used for a extended period of time' but the selected user has been using the vehicle all the time. . 64 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/01/2025

The mmi (multi-media interface) frequently reboots during driving, resulting in a black screen and the inoperability of key systems such as the backup camera, rear obstacle detection, navigation, and cell phone tethering (for hands-free operation). These reboots require user input, including entering a pin to log into the user account (if set up) and repeatedly tapping on the mmi, which can be highly distracting while driving. By its very nature, the reboot catches the driver by surprise and requires diverting attention from driving. Typically, this user input is provided while stationary, immediately after starting the vehicle. This issue constitutes a safety concern, as reboots can occur during reverse parking maneuvers, rendering the backup camera and obstacle detection sensors inoperable until the system reloads. Additionally, reboots completely disable the navigation screens and necessitate multiple user inputs to restore functionality, which can be hazardous while driving. Many states have enacted hands-free laws and requirements that mandate the use of dash-mounted systems to comply with these regulations. The reboots render such systems inoperative. Numerous reports on online user forums suggest that this issue is widespread and affects the same model year vehicles. For instance, see [xxx] . Several technical service bulletins (tsbs) filed with the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA) indicate that available software updates should be applied to address infotainment-related issues. Relevant TSB numbers include: TSB 2067021, TSB 2076404, and TSB 2069112. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

65 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/01/2025

Mmi (infotainment), and the dashboard screen will turn off randomly and reboot. This is a safety concern as it turns all sound off, and driving visuals like directions/backup camera, and freezes or reboots, not where you last had it but from a different check point. Audi dealership misdiagnosed the issue once, performed a software update, but the issue persists. Seems to be a widespread problem - NHTSA id 11657000, among others.

66 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/01/2025

While backing up in reverse, the mmi screen/system will crash and reboot, and the backup camera will stop functioning. This will trigger an instrument panel safety alert and tone from the vehicle that the backup camera is not functioning (the mmi/entertainment screen will be blank). The system will then reboot. This issue also occurs while driving. The effect is random, and can happen multiple times during a short drive, or just once. Each time the system crashes, the screen goes blank, and then the system will reboot and restart a few moments later. This issue surfaced in March 2025. A local Audi dealer could not replicate the issue, but seemed to understand or be familiar with what I described. After a software update of the mmi system, the issue was not resolved. They have recommended a $4,000 part replacement that they cannot confirm will address or resolve the issue. This is unsafe. This can occur while driving in reverse. This issue affects what I believe to be a government mandated safety feature — the backup camera). So far, I have not found any information that suggests Audi is taking this issue seriously.

67 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/01/2025

2020 Audi A4 went in for service on 2/27. After servicing, car's electrical mmi system started rebooting randomly while driving. When this random reboot occurs, the backup camera, parking collision warning no longer function. On some trips, this occurs as often as 5-6 times while others occur just once. The problem is increasing in frequency. I took it back to the dealer on 4/16 where the only thing they could find via codes was a faulty a/c component. After searching online for a solution, I arrived at several reddit threads with other 2020 Audi A4 drivers experiencing similar issues at the end of February. The thread is listed below. [xxx] as mentioned earlier, this lack of system functioning is unsafe as advanced driving features of the car will not work when in a reboot mode. Audi needs to address this issue since this isn't only my car, but appears to have affected the entire 2020 Audi A4 model line. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

68 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/01/2025

These reboots require user input, including entering a pin to log into the user account (if set up) and repeatedly tapping on the mmi, which can be highly distracting while driving. By its very nature, the reboot catches the driver by surprise and requires diverting attention from driving. Typically, this user input is provided while stationary, immediately after starting the vehicle. The issue emerged sometime in February or March 2025. The vehicle was last serviced in December 2024. I brought the vehicle to a dealership (Audi of calabasas, California), who were unable to provide a fix for the problem. 69 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/01/2025

The mmi randomly restarts, starting in March of 2025. This includes when you are reversing, and there is no camera mid-reverse, along with a complete screen shut down. There will be a clicking sound, then a restart on the mmi at any point, typically multiple times while driving. Then it will log you out, have multiple pop-ups, and say technical error at times (then reboot again). It is available for inspection, yes. The highest risk and safety hazard is mid-reversing anywhere (grocery parking lots, garages with cement columns, humans walking behind). It is also quite distracting while driving. My specific dealership didn’t fully test drive the car to recreate it and came back inconclusive, but many others are having this issue occurring at the same time with dealerships reproducing it. By Audi, it has been looked at. There were no warning signs, symptoms, or messages prior to this occurring in March of this year. See this issue occurring at the same time for the same model as Audi has not been helpful in correcting: [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

70 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/01/2025

2020 Audi A4 has infotainment system that constantly crashes and reboots. It occurs multiple times on every single drive, disabling maps, music, and all of the infotainment until the reboot completes. This issue did not occur in prior years, likely due to some over the air update. Issue has become more frequent over time and has been experienced by many other owners, does not seem to be hardware related. Only solution so far appears to be paying the dealership hundreds for a software update.
