Ignition Coils Failure Problems of Audi A4 - part 2

Failed ignition coil pack on 2002 Audi A4. 3. 0 engine leaving the car inoperable. From what I understand, this is a worldwide major failure mode with vw/Audi only replacing the failed coil pack, the other coil packs will fail in time. Some owners have had up to 5 coil packs fail at various times leaving them and their families stranded in undesirable conditions and places. Many people don't carry cell phones enhancing the problems. A total recall is mandatory in this case, it's not going to get better! ts.

2nd ignition coil pack failed. Dealer says part may take up to 45 days to replace.

For the second time on my Audi A4 turbo the ignition coil failed,causing car to completely loose power on busy road. My vehicle only has 12,500 miles on it and the dealership will not change all coils. They also refuse to do a trade in on the vehicle.

Third failure of ignition coil (while car being driven) within 2 months. This problem looks like it is similar to odi id 770040. Dt.

While driving the vehicle intermittenly ignition switch light become innoperable. Dealer replace one of the ignition coil. Consumer states the problem is reocurring. Ts.

Consumer stated that ignition coil failed while driving, which cause the vehicle to stall on the parkway. Consumer feels the vehicle is dangerous. Manufacturer aware of defective part. Consumer made numerous attempts with dealership however ignition coil packs were not available. Ts.

Today was the second failure of the ignition coils, first occured 7/25/02 w/10500 miles on the car, ignition coils 1 & 4 were replaced. Unknown which coils have failed this time. It's thanksgiving day, won't know until tomorrow how many coils have failed. In August I reported the car running rough and wanted the coils checked, dealer stated that without a check engine light or hard failure there was nothing they could do. Today is the second failure in 5 months and I haven't had the car a full year yet. These failures are a safety hazard, I was fortunate to be close to home and driving at a slow speed when each occurred. During today's failure the car could barely go 10mph to get me home. This appears to be a very well known problem with the Audi 2002 1. 8t. Dt.

Apparently Audi has experienced many failures of the ignition coil pack. We have two 2002 A4's in the household and both have experienced this failure. Audi will only replace the failed unit. Dt.

Ignition coil failure - twice once at the end of October and the dealer had my car for almost 3 weeks and the second was 3 days after I received the car back from the previously mentioned repair and they had the car for 18 days. The part had to be shipped from germany. The service man said that Audiusa is not allowing all 4 coils to be replaced at once and has no intention to recall to car.

While driving the vehicle hesitates, shakes excessively and will not accelerate. The dealer and manufacturer admit that the ignition coil is defective, but will not replace it until the component fails. The coil has been replaced twice.

This is a more common issue then Audi will admit, many people have had this problem and Audi still wont replace all 6 ignition coils (they replace them on a as needed basis).

Ignition coil failed on highway. Car "shook" violently until stopped in parking lot. Once car was off the road, the coil housing caught fire. The fire ultimately burned itself out, and the car was towed to the local dealership for repair. The dealership notified Audi USA of the defect and recommended vehicle replacement. Audi USA elected to repair car under warranty. Multiple failures have occurred since (see list). Ts.

Failure of ignition coil. Car sputters. Audi only replacing the coil that malfunctioned leaving the rest of the cylinders subject to the same dangerous failure, as all coils obviously were the same when installed at factory and therefore all are potentially faulty.

Left stranded by ignition coil failure on 2002 Audi A4 1. 8t - this is the second time stranded by this failure.

Engine coil failed on 2002 A4 1. 8t at 10,600 miles. Per Audi, replacement part is on national backorder for approximately 2 weeks. Indicates that this is a more widespread problem than Audi is admitting. When coil fails, car becomes unsafe and undrivable; engine barely has any power. Huge safety issue for driver and other cars on the road should the coil fail while car is in use. Audi is not proactively replacing all ignition coils when a vehicle presents with one failed coil. Audi would not provide price quote to me for replacing remaining coils in the vehicle at my expense (also, they have no available parts to do this, advising that they only have supply to replace failed coils). I do not believe this car is safe to drive until all coils are replaced. Please demand that Audi research this problem and initiate a recall to repair all impacted vehicles. Dealer advises that they are seeing increase in number of vehicles presenting with failed coils.

The seat heater failed, also when the vehicle was in reverse, and the consumer applied the brake, the vehicle failed to stop. The vehicle wasn't drivable when the ignition coils failed. Scc.

The consumer was exiting the freeway when the ignition coil failed. There was a significant loss of power. Scc.
