Air Bag Not Deploy Problems of Audi A6

On February 11, 2021, mr. Travis was traveling on I-70 in vandalia illinois when he was rear ended at high speeds by mr. Free. Mr. Travis' 2002 Audi A6 sustained serious damage but the airbags did not deploy. Mr. Travis sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

On 12/3/19 our car was taken to a certified Audi dealer for having the airbag light on indicating a safety issue. The Audi tech #293n found the passenger occupant detection control module faulty and offered to replace this part for $1,172. 60. There is a recall for A6 model years, however our car is not included, yet our pods control module has failed. We have spoken with Audi support and was told clearly that our VIN number is not included. We are the original owner and the car is in excellent condition for a 2014. We are very concerned about the safety of our front seat passenger in our Audi a 6 and have been told by customer service that this can cause the airbag to not deploy properly when in a collision. Audi has incorrectly concluded that only models with basic seats are recalled. However this exact problem has occurred with our vehicle. I have attached a photo of the repair bill estimate from the dealer. I am requesting that Audi include all 2014 a 6 vehicles in this recall and repair our car due to this faulty part. The passenger airbag is not turned on when a passenger sits in the seat. This means the airbag will not be deployed in the event of an accident. Took the car to the dealer, they indicated that the occupant detection sensor located in the seat was not working and needed to be replaced. My car is only 5 years old and has 67,000 miles. As this is a significant safety hazard which could lead to severe injuries or death, and given the car's relative low mileage, I do not understand how the manufacturer does not warranty this for a longer period of time. I was told that if I chose to have the dealer replace the seat sensor, it would cost me >$1,700.

The contact owns a 2004 Audi A6 avant. The contact stated that the check engine light had been illuminating intermittently. The dealer stated that the contact should not worry about the light. While driving 65 mph, the contact swerved to miss a deer and lost control of the vehicle. It began to rock back and forth and the brakes were inoperative. The contact hit guardrails on both the driver and passenger sides. The vehicle then tipped on its side and went into a ravine. The engine was still running and the wheels were still spinning. The consumer was going about 50 mph when she was involved in an accident. Vehicle a pulled in front of vehicle b and stopped short, forcing vehicle b to rear end vehicle a. In the process, the air bags failed to deploy. Owner contacted the manufacturer and was told that the vehicle was not hit at the right angle to activate the air bags. The emergency lights flashed intermittently and the next day the vehicle would not start, the power unit beneath the floor board was soaking wet and had shorted out, the console under the gear shift was so hot that it could not be touched, there was an oil leak.

While driving 30 mph consumer's vehicle was involved in a head on collision. Upon impact, dual air bags did not deploy. Driver sustained back and shoulder pain.

While driving in very cold snowy weather my airbag light flashed then stayed on. This occurred 3 times during the winter months and has not reoccurred during warmer months. After turning off the car the light went off. According to the drivers manual the airbags will not deploy with light on. According to odi 756137 with same symptoms indicates no airbag will function even with airbag light out after the intermittent light flashing. I took it to the dealer 2 times, but could not determine problem and would not replace anything. Dealer told me unless there is a solid failure or they can duplicate it they could not fix it. Car is still under warranty and feel like I have been getting run around. Called Audi customer service (ref# 40192796), but have not heard anything.

The air bags did not deploy when the vehicle was hit at 40 mph resulting in injuries to the consumer. The dealer was notified.

While stopped at a red light, consumer was struck head on by a truck, air bags failed to deploy, consumer suffered neck injuries and vehicle was deemed a total loss. (attorney for client).
