1 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2018 BMW 530

Failure Date: 03/12/2018

Car issued a safety warning concerning, "passenger restraint system malfunction" stating the passenger restraint system is limited. Warning shows up when passenger seat empty and when car is stationary or moving. Dealership service center verified vehicle had error code but stated they "believe" it is moisture in the sensor and instructed me to redirect air conditioning to floor when warning comes on screen. Concerned about whether this is really just a sensor problem that should be ignored or if there is actually a safety problem with the restraint system.

2 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 BMW 530

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

The car suffered a failure of the "front passenger seat occupancy sensor mat". A recall(13v-564:) was issued for this model beginning with car manufactured after Dec 1, 2005. My car was manufactured before this date, on 9/3/200, and therefore was not included in the recall. The issue I am having is the exact issue in the recall. Have any other owners of pre-Dec 1, 2005, manufacture cars reported similar issues? other recalls of the same issue are 17v-428 and 08v-384.

6 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2005 BMW 530

Failure Date: 01/18/2016

My idrive showed a message indicating that the airbag in the passenger side was deactivated because of a sensor or similar issue. I took this to the dealer, asked for it to be covered under the previous service bulletin which indicated the seat mat sensor was defective. The dealership indicated they would not fix it. I contacted BMW north America and they said they might fix it if I paid for the assessment. The assessment suggested there was a defect in different sensor. And suggested that a battery cable should be replaced. All other systems in the car works fine. Both BMW and the dealer refused to fix this issue. There have been no other reported cases of the battery cable actually causing the airbags to be deactivated. Today, the airbag is still not working, and BMW has refused to fix the problem.

7 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2005 BMW 530

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

I purchased the vehicle from someone. The passenger restraint system malfunction signal on computer has come on, the brake pad malfunction warning has also come on, along with the left brake light malfunction! I have tried to have BMW honor the warranty on the problem with the passenger restraint, to no avail! I have asked the service advisor several times, they are saying I needed to pay to have this done, although it was still under the terms of 10 year rule! the light and brakes are fine, however I can't figure out why the computer says otherwise, unless there are some undetermined problems. The brakes and sensor have been replaced! the light is working properly, yet the computers reading differently. I have asked on several different occasions about the passenger restraint, the female sales advisor states I have to pay for this!.

13 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 BMW 530

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

My vehicle's passenger seat occupancy sensor mat has failed, likely from a crack, and has resulted in the passenger airbags being completely disabled. This intermittently started happening around 2014 but has since completely broken. There is an open recall for this (see: 13v564000) however BMW states that my particular VIN is not covered and is refusing to cover the repair. BMW is obviously aware of the issue and the life threatening risks it poses to front passengers but cannot be bothered to address the issue.

14 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 BMW 530

Failure Date: 06/07/2014

I was sent a letter from BMW in January 2014 concerning recall 13v564: front passenger air bag seat occupancy sensor mat. The letter states that BMW does not have sufficient parts to conduct the recall and I would be notified when they are available. It is now 6 months later (June 2014) and I have not been notified; and I have called my dealer (BMW seattle) a few times only to be told they still do not have the parts. This is extremely concerning as the air bag warning lamp came on right after I received the letter concerning the recall. I appreciate the company notifying me of the recall but it is pointless if they cannot correct it and it makes them look like they've done their due diligence of notifying me but other then that they have no sense of urgency. I would think for a recall on safety equipment they would expedite securing the parts to correct the issue.

17 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2004 BMW 530

Failure Date: 12/20/2013

I am afraid to have anyone sit in my car because the airbag might not work! I work with the united methodist church and I often transport children. BMW issued the below recall but they did not include my VIN. . . But I am having the same issue. This is a safety issue!!!!! --------------------------------- statement on voluntary recall involving front passenger seat sensor mat on u. S. A. Model Bmws - August 13, 2008 today, BMW announced a voluntary recall regarding the front passenger air bag seat sensor mat involving approximately 200,000 model year 2004-06 vehicles. Affected are certain model year 2006 3-series, model year 2004-06 5-series, and model year 2004-06 x3 vehicles, depending upon seat type. BMW has found that the sensor mat may become damaged during vehicle usage depending upon the manner and frequency of the front passenger's entry and exit. BMW will begin sending customer letters in late September 2008. Affected owners may continue to drive their vehicles; however, customers should contact their BMW center if the air bag warning lamp, and the passenger air bag ''on-off'' lamp are illuminated simultaneously. In this situation, BMW recommends customers not to use the front passenger seat and have the vehicle serviced immediately. At the present time, we are unaware of any accidents or injuries as a result of this issue.

18 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2004 BMW 530

Failure Date: 12/20/2013

This an update of NHTSA id number: 10557262. I took my car into the dealer it was confirmed that my car did have a faulty front passenger seat sensor mat that was covered by recall for some cars my model year but not mine. What was upsetting is the dealer informed me that this part was replaced in 2007. The recalled was issued in 2008 but did not include my VIN. Now, the sensor mat is bad again. . . Yet my VIN does not have the same recall problem? I understand BMW na could care less about this cost and after owning 4 BMW(s) this may be my last. I spoke to BMW on the phone. . . And I might as well been talking to my local Ford dealer. They offered no help with cost or service. . . For an air-bag malfunction. If they do not care about my passenger's life. . . . . I do care enough to let them know how upset I am with them.

20 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 BMW 530

Failure Date: 07/25/2013

Warning sensor for passenger seat belt not active would start showing on my dash and upper console last year. Received letter in Jan 2014 about possible recall in the future campaign 13v-564. Today is March 08,2014 after being diverted several times during phone calls, I demanded if they can review my warnings in my dash board but to scan the car for any problems it would be a charged of 140. 00. Fields BMW at winter park FL, said that in order for the service to be free of charge, I would have to wait until I get the letter that states a formal recall needs to be performed. I have a family of four and even thought the warning does not come on often, I still have worries that if in case of an accident the airbags or the seat belt won't work. I don't have the luxury to use multiple cars where ever I go with my kids. I purchased a sound car and I would like the peace of mind that the airbags and seat belts will protect anyone in the passenger and rear seats at time of need. I am afraid that we are waiting for a tragedy to happen before an actual recall is performed.

22 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 BMW 530

Failure Date: 04/10/2013

My 2006 BMW 530i has just experienced a malfunction of the passenger airbag / seatbelt sensor, and I took it to the BMW of sterling service center, which confirmed that the occupancy sensor in the passenger seat has failed. This is exactly the cause for the August 5 2008 BMW recall (NHTSA campaign number: 08v384000), and according to the recall description, my car should have been recalled at that time. However, BMW of sterling told me that my VIN does not show up in the recall database. I hope this is not a scam that BMW of sterling (virginia) is running, as they asked for $1400 to replace the sense, than after one more days they said they contacted BMW which agreed to pay 50% of the bill. I refused the offer, as it seems like a scam to me. Why my car was not part of the original recall, which states that all my 2004-2006 BMW 5-series (like mine) are recalled for this exact issue, and that BMW will even offer a 10-year warranty on this exact sensor? is BMW only recalling selective cars, and not all of them, to save some extra money?????.

23 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 BMW 530

Failure Date: 04/02/2013

Hello NHTSA, recall regarding my issue has already been well documented / investigated with both NHTSA and BMW. To summarize the issue is about a "passenger restraint malfunction" specifically the oc3 seat sensor mat faulty unit, which controls the front passenger airbags. When faulty, the airbags are deactivated, which raises a safety concern. I had called BMW na and had my VIN pulled and unfortunately was not included within the recall cut off date up until 11/2005, my particular model was made 12/2005. I requested BMW na to open up an investigation for re-consideration to include my vehicle under therecall list, considering the time frame of cutoff date and my vehicle manufactured production date. I was told this would be handled internally which is fine, however sense consideration will not be extended and wanted to reach out to NHTSA. My question to BMW na was, "what were the enhancements made to my particular vehicle in improving safety, they were not able to provide any details regarding this. Would you have something documented explaining the specifics repairs/ improvements/ or component enhancements made for models following after 11/2005 cut off date?.

27 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2004 BMW 530

Failure Date: 06/06/2012

Passenger seat occupancy sensor failure. This failure has disabled the airbags on the passenger side of the vehicle. In the event of an accident, any passenger in the vehicle would not be protected by the airbags. There was a recall on my2004-2006 BMW 5-series models (along with numerous other models) for the passenger seat occupancy sensor. BMW of north America has advised me that my vehicle (per VIN) is not a part of the recall. However, I am experiencing the same fault as outlined in the recall issued by BMW na. Neither my local dealership, or BMW na is willing to cover this failure. This is a significant safety issue for any passengers in the vehicle.

Ref NHTSA campaign number: 08v384000 while my vehicle is the same model year, model and specification listed in the recall, my vehicle's VIN is not "included" in the list of recalled vehicles. I have and am currently experiencing this exact seat sensor mat problem. BMW is unwilling to cover any warranty work as the specific VIN is apparently not affected despite the fact that clearly it is. I am concerned about the safety of the occupants of my vehicle based on the unreliability of this component and feel the recall should be expanded to include all vehicles that experience the same problem.
