While driving about 20 miles per hour approaching a stop, the car shifted into netral and on the dash indicated the gear is now "n", then steering wheel locked and I could not turn to pull off the road. This was dangerous as I was in the middle of the road. After turning off the car, turning it back on, the problem disappears. If this fault happens on a highway, it can cause a fatal accident if the steering wheel locks and gear shifts to neutral. The "transmission fault drive moderately, drive to the nearest BMW dealership" is the message that I got when I was driving one day a few weeks ago, I have 77,000 miles and I had just had a tune up. Of course I took the care to BMW immediately and found out that the power train was bad? the entire transmission had to be replaced to the tune of $7000, I knew there were some engine problems with some of the BMW years but I didn't think 2008 should've had any problems as far as the transmission going out at 77,000?.

The position of BMW is that they will not perform the service on the vehicle now as it was reported as an insurance loss, but likely thousands of these vehicles operate on public roads legally with rebuilt titles. I feel the condition is a true safety risk and should be handled under a recall to require proper correction and ensure public safety rather than a discretionary service from BMW to protect their reputation and expenses. Attached is the michigan rebuilt title and document for re-certification showing the repairs did not include the motor. Also included is the correspondence with BMW and a photos of the vehicle after repair.

Restraint passenger fault system indicator all of a sudden is on and speakers xrackling and navigation flickering. While driving on the highway at a speed of about 65 mph my car suddenly lost power. A "drive train malfunction" warning appeared on the dash indicating that I had reduced power. My speed was quickly reduced and I had to cruise to the right lane. Unfortunately the portion of the NJ garden state parkway that I was on did not have a shoulder. It just so happened that the guard rail was broken and I was able to coast off the road and place the car between the opening between the broken guard rails. I was not injured or involved in an accident, largely due to the fact that there was a break in the guard rail. After towing the car to the dealer, I was told that there is an "equipment update/customer convience upgrade" for the car that would replace the failed fuel injectors free of charge. I feel that this clearly is a safety issue that is being disguised as an equipment upgrade. Losing power while driving on the highway is absolutely dangerous. BMW should not wait until the injectors fail to correct the situation. Or wait until there are a couple of fatalities to call this what it is . . A safety hazard!! as I checked online forums, many BMW owners are experiencing this issue. BMW is also telling me that the throttle assembley and sensors need to be replaced at my cost due to the fact that this could also cause a shut down/and or reduction of power to the vehicle while driving.
