Tl the contact owns a 2008 BMW X3. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 17v605000 (air bags) and 17v683000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the parts to do the repairs were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. BMW of fort wayne (929 Ave of autos, fort wayne, in) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedies. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and were not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available. 37 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2017 BMW X3

Failure Date: 07/19/2017

Engine seized at 65mph highway speeds during commute to work on busy boston highway. Narrowly avoided several collisions as vehicle coasted to stop. Vehicle was purchased new from a BMW dealer three weeks ago and has less than 2,000 miles on it. Dealer advises an "oversized bearing was found in the engine causing it to overheat and seize". Engine requires replacement. Transmission, transfer case, electronics and cooling system damage are suspected by the dealer tech and will require monitoring.

38 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2008 BMW X3

Failure Date: 05/29/2017

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2008 BMW X3. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v071000 (air bags) and was unable to receive the remedy and part within a reasonable time frame. In addition, the contact was included in NHTSA campaign number: 17v683000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the recall notices stated that the remedy and parts were unavailable. The contact was uncertain as to when the vehicle would be repaired for months. A dealer was contacted (BMW of freehold, 4225 u. S. 9, freehold, NJ 07728, (732) 410-6096), but the contact relocated. 40 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2007 BMW X3

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

3 out of 4 engine mount bolts sheared off while driving. This caused the engine to drop 2 inches and damage the cooling system. If the engine had dropped further it would likely have caused a more catastrophic failure and accident.

41 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2004 BMW X3

Failure Date: 11/15/2010

August 1, 2010 took car to local BMW dealership northpoint to have air conditioner checked prior to 100,0000 mile warranty expiring. Told by dealership could not repeat diagnosis of why air was not cooling. On 11-15-2010 at 107,215 after warranty has expired a 3rd party diagnosed car as needing a evaporator coil which is a $2000-$2500 replacement. In addition to another problem of the engine burning and leaking oil which is $6000 to replace.
