2 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2007 BMW X5

Failure Date: 02/07/2020

Water leaking in front right floor board cause short in electrical system, also leaking in rear at battery area. Dealer has advised this also caused the short in the alternator and battery. If BMW has been sued because of sun roofs leaking before. My car died in a rain storm and in heavy traffic causing great danger to the passengers. BMW should be forced to repair these vehicles before someone is injured or killed. And stop acting like they have never heard of this problem before.

3 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2010 BMW X5

Failure Date: 05/09/2018

The engine belt idler pulley bolt broke causing a sudden loss of power steering when the serpentine belt came off the alternator and power steering pump. This is the same problem associated with recall 12v550000 a few years ago. The dealer said the vehicle was fixed under the recall but it was before I owned it so I don't know for sure. I believe the recall should be reinstated. The vehicle was moving on a residential street at less than 25 mph and my mom was driving. If she had been going any faster she would have crashed.

4 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2009 BMW X5

Failure Date: 12/06/2017

Vehicle is subject to recall 12v550000 due to idler pulley bolt which can break, causing accessory drive bet to dislodge and loss of power steering, alternator, etc. This vehicle's idler pulley and bolt were replaced as part of the recall 2. 5 years and 35,000 miles ago, but experienced the exact same failure, again, last month. BMW USA and the local dealer were contacted, both refused to fix the issue, stating that the repair is only valid for two years. The new idler pulley bolt that was installed sheared off at its mounting point, just as the original bolt that was subject to recall did. It is clear that the replacement bolt is subject to the same failure as the original - worse, as this failure occurred in under 3 years and 40,000 miles, it appears that the "fix" is worse and more dangerous than the originally recalled part. In my vehicle, the pulley bolt snapped while the vehicle was being driven on a city street, causing a "bang" noise and the complete loss of power steering.

5 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2012 BMW X5

Failure Date: 07/31/2017

On July 31st 2017, the bolt securing idler pulley and alternator sheared. Battery charge malfunction light came on followed by loss of power steering. Looking at my service record, I see that this same bolt was subject to a recall in January 2013 when car was at 12332 miles. The car is now at 63456. Also noted on BMW owners web site that many other owners of this e70 series design have had the same repeat problem. BMW dealer in CT performed the latest repair and offered no explanation, except that their work is guaranteed for 2 years. Original recall performed by dealer in raleigh nc where car was purchased new has advised me to post this report and call Bmwna. I am waiting to hear back from them, but first discussion was not good. They claimed that they did not have a record of this as a continuing problem and would not be able to give me any assurances that it would not happen again. I note that the part number of the new bolt just installed is the same as the old bolt installed in 2013. We were very lucky not to be involved in a serious accident and without some clear assurances that BMW understand how to fix this continuing problem I am very worried about driving the car. At the time of the bolt failure we were driving at about 20mph through the center of the town of stratford CT and just managed to pull off the road into a train station parking lot.

7 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2006 BMW X5

Failure Date: 11/28/2016

2006 X5 VIN 5uxfb535x6lv23895 while in motion on a city street and hwy! 1. Break booster / vacuum line failure same as recalled 2007-2010 issue. Why is my 2006 X5 BMW not covered when there is clearly a systemic failure of this same system? I seek immediate relief and demand upon you a recall for my specidic BMW now today. 949 449 7806 call me! 2. Alternator failure X5 acted possessed with all lights going on and off before shutting the car down on a freeway while at max legal speed. Altenator is placed low on the left side where oil leaks into it causing a failure mode. The same oil leaks cause other rubber components to swell up crack and fail such as boots and rubber bushings on arms. Where is the recall?? 2006 where is it?? 3. Break light system failure back r/h and changing light bulbs didnt bring it to working condition. BMW used a screw driver to make it work again after the airbag and alternater repair they did. . I paid for the alternator but it should have been a recall item! now my break lights dont work back r/h side. 5. 1 head light out 6. Engine leaks oil like a sive onto my X5 rubber comonents and I already had to pay for a new boot and arm! other rubber items are all bad and getting worse! where is the recall? why are these safety items not being recalled by your governmental organization?.

8 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2006 BMW X5

Failure Date: 09/08/2016

While driving on interstate in high speed lane engine suddenly lost power creating danger of rear end collision. In moving to break down lane engine continued to run but would not propel the vehicle over 5 mph. This problem had occurred two weeks previously when the vehicle was towed to BMW dealer for service. At that time the vehicle was electronically diagnosed and no faults were found or repairs made. The vehicle was again towed to the BMW dealer and no electronic faults were found. This time a mechanical diagnosis was performed and fuel pressure was found to be 12 psi rather that the 55 psi specified. Subsequently the contacts in the fuel pump relay were found to be burned, the fuel filter and pressure regulator were found to contain metal shards, the fuel pump showed no external signs of damage. All items were replaced at which time fuel pressure returned to 55 psi and the vehicle was able to be driven normally. The conclusion is that the fuel pump can fail internally which cannot be detected by electronic diagnosis and returning a car to the road without performing the mechanical diagnoses specified in the factory service literature is a dangerous and negligent practice by this particular BMW dealer's service department and may indicate an inherent flaw in the manufacture of the fuel pump. Parts replaced: 61 36 8 373 700 relay 16 12 6 754 016 fuel filter pressure regulator 16 11 6 768 357 fuel pump.

9 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 BMW X5

Failure Date: 12/29/2014

I've had to replace all 4 window regulators, my rear hatch seems to open for no reason, my rear window wiper is working with the switch in the off position, led's are going out again and now the dreaded apparent oil seperator with tons of grey smoke billowing out the back of the car after being left in an airport parking lot for 4 days whilst it snowed outside. Seems I've had every typical problem other than the car catching fire for no apparent reason. I have owned Bmws in germany and the us for a long time, however, I think I'll be switching brands with my next vehicle. BMW doesn't seem to be proactive enough for my liking with some of these way too common issues. This is a very low mile vehicle for it's age and it's acting like a model t.

10 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 BMW X5

Failure Date: 11/18/2014

I purchased the vehicle used, I have had it for about 5 months and have had some serious problems (steering column, window regulators, engine, and coolant leakage). I see where these issues seem to be consistent with the vehicle, but am having a hard time getting the recall work done. I can's afford to spend a lot on this car, but I feel like I may have more than I bargained for. My extended warranty is not paying for much !!! help.

11 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 BMW X5

Failure Date: 01/07/2005

BMW x-5 has caused two accidents by spontanous accelleration - after first accident BMW was contacted and engineers kept vehicle and determined that cause of accident driver error-we paid for repair of vehicle. Same "acceleration" happened about six months later on January 7 sending car crashing through front of building - only by miracle people weren't ingured in these accidents (the building was a a retail store). This is a leased vehicle and we don't know what to do. Lso, these incidents have caused our insurance to skyrocket.
