Vehicle shut off while stopped. A smell of hot electrical was present immediately before the shut off. Inspection of the vehicle showed a blown fuse for the fuel pump circut, as well as melting of the plastic power connection to the fuel pump, and the insulation on the power wires themselves. The bare wires were exposed at the connection. The wiring harness was stiff from the connector of the fuel pump to the rubber seal on the body.

5 Wiring problem of the 2013 BMW X5

Failure Date: 03/16/2019

My 2013 BMW X5 35d was in motion on a city street, when it stalled, lost all power and ultimately would not restart. I was able to get it to the side, but not off the road and it was towed to the BMW dealership where they discovered that there had been a still unidentified sourced, fuel leak into the electrical harness and finally pooling into the dde component, frying the dde component to failure. There was enough fuel in the dde component that it was drained into a drip pan and fuel covered the wiring connection points as well as had discolored the wiring. I was informed that had this been a gas engine and not diesel, it would have probably caught on fire as fuel was able to access and travel across the electrical wiring in the car. BMW has refused to help in anyway to investigating the reasoning for this happening and or any repairs that would be involved as they "do not have a financial responsibility because the car is no longer under warranty" I feel that this is an opportunity for them to discover the reasoning without the destruction of evidence that a fire would have caused and they are choosing not to do so as to claim ignorance to the safety issues that this happening represents.

6 Wiring problem of the 2005 BMW X5

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

The wiring harness inside the headlights are loosing the insulation, and there all the bare wires are exposed. This is a high fire hazard, what may cause death of the occupants and others in the traffic. This problem is not just in my vehicle, there are many forums over the internet with the same problem what is not the fault of the owner of the vehicle.

8 Wiring problem of the 2008 BMW X5

Failure Date: 08/04/2014

The 2008 X5 3. 0l started to sound like a jet engine with the super loud fan noise. I thought the car was going to blow up. Took the car in for repair, and luckily the engine hadn't overheated yet. They found that the water pump was faulty, which caused the wiring to burn out, and observed oil leakage near engine. If I had driven the car any more, it would have caused significant damage to the engine of the vehicle. BMW service center told me that I have to replace the water pump, thermostat, and other parts including gasket something. Thank you.

9 Wiring problem of the 2008 BMW X5

Failure Date: 08/29/2013

After the check engine light came on we took our vehicle to a local shop conway motors in everett, wa. Conway motors diagnosed the problem as a fuel pump and the wiring was burnt connecting the fuel pump. Mark at conway motors called BMW to see if there was a recall and was surprised when BMW parts in seattle stated there was not a recall but they were familiar with the problem and there had been other similar complaints with burnt wiring connected to the fuel pump. Mark advised we could not drive the vehicle and we were lucky the vehicle had not exploded. My wife drives this vehicle daily to work and BMW is aware of the issue but has not done a recall is totally unacceptable and put my wife's life in danger.

10 Wiring problem of the 2007 BMW X5

Failure Date: 07/04/2012

It was the night of independence day 2012, it had rained moderately hard earlier in the day. When I started my 2007 BMW X5 3. 0si to drive home, I was greeted with a bunch of warnings and errors on both my instrument cluster and navigation display. The most major one read "electronic system malfunction: take to nearest BMW center. " the abs light was also lit up. Since it was late at night, the dealership was closed and so I proceeded to try to drive home. On the drive home, I noticed that my a/c system shut itself off and that my turn signals were extremely laggy & at times, were not even turning on ¿ a real traffic hazard. Fortunately, I made it home, but turning the car off was tricky because each time, oddly, the lights inside the car and ambient lighting on different parts of the car were still lit even when I removed the keyfob and locked the car. Examples include the radio unit, the engine start button. The next morning, I took the car to the BMW dealership and they charged me $200+ just to perform diagnostics on the car. They ended up finding nothing and suggested that I pay more for them to take off the two front seats and inspect the wires under the carpet in the front of the car (I found out that this because they knew about NHTSA item #: 10032845 / service bulletin # sib-61-13-07). I declined because I did not want to spend any more money all for them to not be able to find anything again. As of July 28, 2012, the electrical issue still occurs after a moderate to heavy rainstorm. I believe (along with many BMW X5 owners with the same issue) that it has to do with a faulty drainage pipe relating to the panoramic moonroof, which allows for water to leak inside the car and screw up the car's wiring. Please do something. This is something BMW should be responsible for & repair at no cost. Why should I pay to resolve a design flaw that BMW made!??.

11 Wiring problem of the 2001 BMW X5

Failure Date: 06/06/2011

The contact owns a 2001 BMW X5. The contact stated that both brake lights failed to illuminate when the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where both brake light bulbs and holders were replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the technician stated that there was a short within the brake light system and both wiring harnesses needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.

12 Wiring problem of the 2001 BMW X5

Failure Date: 10/16/2008

On oct. 16,2008 I was experiencing hesitation when accelerating after I bring it to auto repair shop, after they diagnosed the problem they informed me that the entire wiring harness and the throttle is bad and need to replaced and inform me there was service bulletin on it I call BMW dealer speak to then about it but they said there nothing they could do for me because the car is out of warranty and the bulletin was over I, it cost me $1,200 to fit the problem 2001 X5 3. 0 60,000 mi.

13 Wiring problem of the 2002 BMW X5

Failure Date: 10/01/2007

I own a 2002 BMW X5 with less than 37,000 miles. In the last 6-8 months I have had to replace the control arm. More recently, I had to have the engine harness rewired and the throttle body replaced. My brake light is constantly going out even though I have replaced bulbs and sockets numerous times. I have spoken to other X5 drivers who have had some of the same problems so I'm beginning to wonder if it's a bigger problem than just my vehicle.

14 Wiring problem of the 2001 BMW X5

Failure Date: 06/02/2005

After experiencing previous hesitation when accelerating and after dealer inspection, no faults were found and no corrective action was taken by the BMW dealer. While driving on a high speed expressway, the X5 suddenly and without warning shut down all systems and all warning lights came on. After finally getting off the road, the car was towed to my home. The next day, the car was able to start and, although the car was not able to go over 30 mph, I drove to my BMW dealer. The service technician diagnosed the problem quickly and informed me that a service bulletin was issued in August, 2003 on this problem. The entire wiring harness and throttle had to be replaced and because the car was out of warranty, BMW assumed none of the cost which was about $1,200. 00. I believe that owners should have been notified of this problem when it was recognized by BMW. The service bulletin stated that the problem should only be corrected "upon a customer's complaint" which I believe is totally irresponsible and jeopardizes the safety of occupants.

15 Wiring problem of the 2001 BMW X5
