I was driving yesterday and stopped at a stop sign. I started to pull out from the stop sign making a right hand turn and lost all power steering and ac shut down. I was able to get the turn by pulling hard and then it starting working right again. Very upsetting. Took car to bokmans in olean, NY. I am afraid to drive it now.

I have a 2010 Buick Enclave with 142,000 miles. I purchased it used at about 70,000 miles. Overall, have been happy with the car but a few months ago I ran into a scary situation that I did not anticipate. I nearly drove into the side of another car when making a left turn from a stoplight with two lanes turning left (I was in the left-most lane and there was another car on my immediate right). My power steering quit on the turn. That night when I got home I checked the fluid and it was right in the middle of band and showed no signs of visibile degradation. I also searched online about this issue and found it is a very common problem with 2010 Buick Enclaves. And from what I have read it is not clear to the dealerships if this problem is a rack&pinion issue or pump or what. Some have been denying there is a generic problem at all. Others have confessed there is a generic design flaw in the system. I don't know if anyone has been killed due to this generic problem but I am certain there must have been some accidents! I warned my wife about the problem and have asked her to not even drive the car unless absolutely necessary. Gm needs to recall and fix this problem. My trial and error testing shows the problem occurs whether turning right or left. It does not happen every time at low speed turns - I would guess 50-60% of the time. No issues when tracking straight ahead. Again - a real safety hazard particularly if turning in front of oncoming traffic and it were to quit and it delays your turn time. Same if turning to merge into oncoming traffic- loss of steering could delay your ability to merge and result in a rear end collision. I am 61 yo and have owned a number of cars over the years and have never lost power steering before. Unless this is remedied properly by gm I am not sure I would buy another Buick or gm product.

The contact owns a 2009 Buick Enclave. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle lost power steering and became difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 124,180.
Complete engine power reduction automatically casing car instantly to drop from 65 mph down to 25 mph in the middle of a 4 lane highway. Lost all power steering ability and not able to turn car and almost drove into trees before it came to a stop. I had to have aaa come and tow my car to walser Buick GMC in bloomington, mn.

I was coming up to turn into my driveway and lost power steering. This condition about led me to hit another car. At higher rpms the power steering comes back but at an idle or just above it requires great effort to turn the vehicle.
Lost power steering at low speed.
My 2010 Buick Enclave, with 60,000 miles lost power steering while I was travelling on the highway. The steering basically locked up, I had great difficulty getting the vehicle off on an exit, so that I could call for help. I had to be towed to a dealer. I was told that the there had been a leak in the rack and pinion assembly leading to pump failure and gear damage, their estimate to fix: $1800. I was also told by the service department at the dealer that the engine motor mounts are loose, the engine physically moves about 6 inches when the accelerator is pushed.
Twice in the last 30 days our Enclave was showing low on gas (usually not an issue) but both times the car sputtered to a stop. Once it quit I lost all power steering and braking. Even after I put gas in the car, the key would not move so I was unable to start the car without a jump. Car was towed to dealership. They were unable to recreate the issue although they were unable to explain why the key would lock up in the ignition. According to Buick everything checked out fine. Based on what we are hearing on the news, this issue seems very similar to the cobalt issue. Thank you.

Lost power steering. Vehicle is difficult to turn at low speeds. Dealership said it was the axles. I replaced them but the problem was not fixed. Maneuvering in parking lots is almost impossible and driving around curves is nerve-racking because the wheel wants to jerk to the side, almost forcing me unto oncoming traffic. It's only a matter of time before I have a wreck because of this issue.
We intermittently lose power steering at low speeds. So far we have not hit anything, but have come close at intersections, in parking lots, and in driveways. I am not sure when it first happened. Maybe about a year ago. At the beginning, it was once in a while. Now just about every trip we have an incident. Power steering reservoir is full and pump appears to be working properly. When I told the dealer of the issue I am having, they recommended changing the pump and gear at an approximate cost of $2,000. As an engineer, I found it hard to believe that both the pump and gear needs replacing. I did some research online and found that many people with same issue who did change pump and gear still had the same issue. Further research leads me to believe that the power steering system has a design is defect that needs to be addressed by national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA). The Enclave and other gm vehicles have a variable effort steering (ves) system that varies the amount of effort to steer the vehicle. Apparently the steering gear valve solenoid can stick causing lose of steering with no warning. I recommend that NHTSA requires gm to either replace ves system with a highly reliable design or disable the system to reduce possibility of having an accident due to power steering failure. Nhtsa is welcome to use my vehicle to analyze the issue.
While turning (both left and right) at low speeds the vehicle randomly loses power steering control and becomes very difficult to complete the turn. Completing the turns becomes so difficult, my wife has to stop the vehicle forward motion and back up, or when crossing traffic, has to continue in a straight path from where control was lost and hope she can make it across to avoid a wreck. Times of occurrence are at random when making turns across traffic from low speeds, turning in parking lots and any other time low speed turns are required. Frequency seems to be increasing as time goes on.
The steering wheel started to make a rubbing, squeaking sound upon turning left or right at low speeds. By the next day, I had lost power steering completely at low speeds. I went to make a turn, thinking I had power steering and almost got in an accident because I was unable to turn the car as quickly as usual. It was so scary! I took the car to the dealer who has had it in the shop the last four days. They are replacing the entire steering column. I hope that will solve the problem, but after reading tons of complaints online at Buick Enclave forums, I fear that this issue is widespread and is an on-going problem, no matter how many "fixes" at the dealership.
My husband went to make a right hand turn and when he turned he lost power steering and the abs light, traction control icon, brake light and "service all wheel drive" all came on at the same time. My dash looks like a christmas tree.
The car has had a whining noise in the steering for a long time. Have been told lots of things about the sound and the reason behind the sound. About 3 months ago while making a u-turn at red light the car's steering lost its power steering momentarily. It become extremely difficult to complete the turn and made for a very difficult situation. Oncoming cars were not as easy to avoid as the steering become almost impossible. At a local auto repair shop after the incident we were told that this was a very common incident with the Buick Enclave. We then called a local gm dealer and their service department, only to be told that there occasionally is air bubbles that happen in power steering systems and that the whining noise is okay. I asked if this was a common problem to be told that this is not common, even though I was told by a auto repair shop that it was a common problem. After dealing with this problem for the last 3 months and putting my small children and wife in the car, I am unable to do this any longer. It is not a safe situation, not even a little bit. My wife nearly wrecks into other cars pretty much anytime she tries to park the car in a store parking lot. After researching the internet, I am finding thousands upon thousands of other people with the same problem. I would like to believe that maybe it was just my car, but I don't think that every Buick Enclave should lose its power steering at 70000 miles. That is not good. Do something please!.
The vehicle loses power steering control at low speed. I have made several complaints to the dealer who can find no problem. The steering has gotten progressively worse and now I am afraid to drive the car. I fear that I am afraid myself or my wife may not be able to control the car. On the last trip to the dealer the problem was diagnosed as a steering gear and pinion issue which is over $1500. 00 to repair. I feel that this is a safety issue for the automobile type and it is also a manufacture defect. Please issue a safety recall for this item.
