Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Buick Enclave. The contact stated that when driving over a puddle or uneven land, the steering function failed, various warning indicators and gauges flashed as there was a loss of power each time the failure happened. The dealer bob weaver auto, 570-628-3610, 2174 west market street pottsville, PA 17901 had been unable to replicate and diagnose the failure so the vehicle was not repaired and the failure continued. The manufacturer was notified of the failure to determine if they may be able to provide a permanent fix to the dealer for a repair. The VIN was not available. The contact owns a 2012 Buick Enclave. While driving 5 mph, the steering wheel failed to turn left or right. The contact turned off and restarted the engine, and the vehicle returned to normal. Over time our 2011 Buick Enclave experienced a whining noise at idle and lower speeds, particularly when turning. Dealership indicated that this was due to a leaking/defective power steering pump and potentially the entire steering column may need to be replaced. This vehicle is approximately 3 years old and approximately 50k miles - disappointed to discover that this issue is not currently covered under warranty/recalls. I would not expect to encounter an issue of this magnitude with a car at this point in the life cycle - this is a potential safety concern if this issue progresses to a situating where the steering totally fails.

At low speeds, my Buick Enclave makes noise when turning and has failed on two occasions. There are many complaints but no recall. People will get hurt or killed due to steering failure. My car is outside of the warranty and I can't afford to fix it.

Loss of power steering at low speeds. Initially occurred occasionally, but frequency has increased to the point where it now occurs almost daily. Prior to steering failure, I did notice a funny sound when the steering wheel was turned to far right or left. At first I thought this was just my car, but it would appear that it is a pretty widespread issue judging by the number of complaints lodged, which I am sure represent just a fraction of the owners who have experienced this issue. Given the serious safety issue involved, I am very surprised there has not been a recall since gm seems to be issuing recalls for much less serious issues.

I have already issued a complaint regarding this issue and continue to have issues with not being able to turn the vehicle in traffic. There have been over 60 complaints filed with the NHTSA regarding steering failure of this vehicle and similar platforms while in traffic. Gm has already been shown to fail to correct safety issues despite having knowledge of such (hence the current significant media coverage). There is a class action suit against gm in relation to this issue (the judge so far has ruled against gm to have the suit dismissed giving validity to the issue). I kindly request NHTSA re-evaluate this issue and initiate an investigation. I apologize for using this section to inquire but did not locate any other means of inquiry.

Steering rack system had to be replaced due to steering issues while driving. When we took it in to the dealer we were told that it needed to be replaced as it wasn't safe to drive in that condition. We were told that the steering could fail or lockup.

Steering starts to fail when I drive at low speeds. It locks up causing me to make sudden reactions. I have a very hard time making a turn or pulling in or out of a parking space. It is a danger to my family and to other drivers.

I have already had the steering rack replaced previously. . . Now, today, the steering pump is failing and needs to be replaced. . . This is a safety issue. . . I have notice a number of other Enclave owners experiencing this problem. There should be a recall on this item.

Attempted to make a right hand turn from a shopping mall driveway into oncoming traffic. The steering system failed and would not allow the driver to turn the steering wheel. Power to the system returned within 5-10 seconds, but the vehicle was narrowly avoided by cars traveling the roadway being entered.

My 2010 Buick Enclave has now had the steering rack fail twice in it's first year. The steering pump has now failed. This starts off as a rub and then soon after begins to have grinding in the steering wheel. I have not let it progress and had it reparied immediately each time. The dealer told me the parts were redesigned yet less than 6 months after installing the new parts, it failed again. I was told by the mechanic that there was insufficient oil in the part and the redesign was to add more oil. Clearly that has not worked. I was told if not promptly repaired, it would lead to loss of steering. I have already filed for repurchase of the vehicle under the lemon law in my state. The dealer also made statements about this being a known issue and that they are trying to get vehicles repaired as they come in and are trying to figure out why it's failing. Additionally I visited the Buick Enclave forums and some other sites and have indeed found this to be a common problem. I don't have a working knowledge of auto mechanics but I'm very concerned about the possible loss of steering control and the inability of the dealer to fix my problem.
