1 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2010 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 01/10/2021

Jan. 10 at 8 am my daughter and I left salt lake city to drive home to las vegas. At 8 am, everything was fine, no noise from the vehicle no clanking, no smell. I could do u turns and sharp turns to park the vehicle before stopping to get a bagel. We entered the 15 south to head home, we are driving at speeds of 70-80mph. At approximately 11:00am we are reaching the town of beaver, utah. I needed to pull off the freeway to gas up and wanted an espresso. We exit the freeway and as I start slowing I can tell my power steering has gone out, I almost hit on coming traffic while turning to the right when coming off the exit because it was so extremely difficult to steer. The other driver had to swerve in to the dirt area to avoid hitting my daughter and I, followed us to the gas station and yelled at me until he realized something was wrong with my steering. . We had to pay to have the vehicle towed to st george utah to rons shell mechanic station. Ron thought maybe it was a bad pump or rack (even though there were no signs of it going bad). We paid over 2 grand trying to get it fixed and there are intermittent power steering issues, finally ron gave up and said thats the best he can do. After investigating I see many other people are having power steering failure with 2010 GMC Buick Enclaves. GMC needs to take this seriously. My daughter and I were almost hit head on! because of instant power steering failure with no warning what so ever!! this needs to be corrected ASAP!!.

2 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2008 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 07/02/2020

The power steering on my vehicle has been failing more frequently to the point I'm afraid to drive it. I am a polio survivor and depend on the full function of my right arm @ all times. Since purchasing the 2008 Enclave in June 2019, the power steering has begun failing every time I use the vehicle. The worst failure was on the freeway @ 80 mph while returning home to idaho, from the death of my father in tuscon. The steering failed while I was negotiating a curve. I was able to pull out of the curve @ the last minute. It scared me half to death! over the last few months, the steering has become more impossible to manage, which has caused the rotator cuff of my right arm to become exceedingly more painful. The power steering pump has been an on going issue with these cars to the point of the pump being redesigned by GMC. I feel this issue is a serious safety hazard and warrants a recall. Sincerely, c. A. Edmunds, rn (retired).

3 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2016 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 10/20/2019

Power steering has started failing when turning, making it extremely hard to turn the steering wheel. Seems worse at slow speed. Happens whenever and wherever I try to turn the steering wheel. Will drive okay when going straight. Made appointment for service. I suspect power steering pump needs replaced, but just guessing.

5 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2008 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

The power steering fails on turns with no warning. From what I read this is common on Buick Enclaves. I was almost in an accident from the power steering failure. Once I was on a 55 mph highway changing lanes when it failed, the rest are usually when turning. My mechanic said the power steering pump needs replacement.

6 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2010 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 03/09/2019

Power steering failed when driving on a street while turning. Took it to a non Buick mechanic for evaluation. He stated to take it to a Buick dealership. There is a special consideration provision to repair. We never received any information on this. We took it to a Buick dealership who stated it needed replaced. They would replace the pump only and we needed to pay $2200. 00 for a steering gear. This is unacceptable to charge the consumer anything to fix this obvious system defect. We believe the dealership needs to pay for all repairs to make this right. But they won't since it hasn't been recalled.

7 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2013 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 01/16/2019

For the last six months I've had messages saying service stabilitrak, service traction control, engine power reduced, and then it slowed immediately which was frightening when you ate going 60 mph. My local dealership says its fuse nox which id arcing and will be almodt 600 to fix. Now my power steering pump is failing, terrible noises wgen turning and recalls have been issued to 2012s. Very tired of being afraid to drive my car.

8 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2011 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 09/21/2018

The power steering pump failed. This failure caused the steering to tighten at slow speeds making the car extremely difficult to control and safety hazard. When taken to the dealer, I was told that power steering pressure inlet hose and power steering gear assembly needed repair. An independent mechanic told me that the additional repairs were the result of the failed pump. Gm is denying coverage of the additional repairs under warranty. The power steering pumps should be recalled with all damaged parts replaced.

9 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2008 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 08/15/2018

Power steering pump failure. At low speeds wheel becomes almost impossible to turn. This has caused several near accidents. Dealer quoted almost $1600 to replace. Online research shows this is a common problem for this vehicle. I have already had the steering worked on once before after having difficulty turning the wheel. As it is over 3 years since then, I am told the cost is due from me in full.

10 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2012 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 03/15/2018

Power steering failure in the middle of a turn onto local highway, steering wheel suddenly became stiff and impossible to turn I was almost got hit by a truck! later on I had similar issues intermittently. Sometimes power steering works but many other times doesnt. This happened after a winter snowstorm when I left the car outside, so my suspicion is that the extremely cold temperature caused some Buick Enclave's manufacturing defects to have revealed itself.

11 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2008 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 10/05/2017

The power steering seems to fail at times. It becomes very difficult to turn the wheel after stopping at an intersection or traffic light. It's also difficult to make turns into traffic when I have to quickly merge into the flow of traffic.

12 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2009 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 08/12/2017

When at low speeds, in a parking lot, the power steering goes out sometimes. When we are trying to park in a parking space, it is very difficult, because the power steering almost always fails. This is a serious safety concern to me. One of these days it is going to cause us to hit another vehicle or worse, a person. I have not took it to a shop. I have researched the issue and it seems to be a very common problem. My Enclave has 125,000 miles on it, we bought it a little over a year ago and has had this issue since we bought it.

13 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2009 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 10/07/2016

When turning the vehicle to the left at a low speed, the power steering stopped functioning. The steering gear box was replaced, and functionality improved slightly for about a month. Mileage at the time was about 90,000. After a month, the issue returned. In addition to the power steering failure when turning left at low speeds, the vehicle started making a grinding noise near the front left of the vehicle, and the vehicle engine would cut in and out intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the steering rack was found to be the issue. The mileage at the time of this issue was about 107,000. Between the 90,000 mile issue and 107,000 mile issue, the power steering would cut in and out unexpectedly, and almost caused several accidents. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership once, and an independent mechanic three times since the vehicle was purchased just two years prior. Gm should recall the steering systems.

14 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2011 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 08/15/2016

The contact owns a 2011 Buick Enclave. While driving 3 mph, the power steering failed. The contact stated that the steering wheel required additional effort to turn. The vehicle was taken to be diagnosed and the contact was informed that there was a hydraulic leak in the gear housing of the power steering. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 62,583.

15 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2010 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 07/18/2016

Power steering goes in and out. Will work when the car is first started but once it warms up, power steering fails. Has been happening for a few weeks, local mechanic says there is a special coverage adjustment but I the only way I know about it is they found the information.

16 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2009 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 06/14/2016

The contact owns a 2009 Buick Enclave. While driving at low speeds, the power steering failed and it became difficult to turn the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed and was informed that the power assist mechanism failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

17 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2011 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 01/28/2016

I took my 2011 Buick Enclave with 27,000 miles into my local Buick dealer for routine maintenance. The service manager called and advised that the steering rack was leaking and that the estimated repair cost is $1780. I chose not to have the repair done at that time, but now see that many Enclave owners have experienced power steering failures due to this defect. Some of these failures occurred in traffic and could have resulted in accidents. Now that I am aware of this I will take the car to be repaired immediately. Because there have been so many failures with potentially serious consequences, this should be investigated by NHTSA for a possible recall. I suspect that this would also affect GMC acadia and chevy traverse models.

18 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2010 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 01/06/2016

The vehicle's power steering will, with increasing frequency, stop working for up to 10 seconds or so, leaving the driver with a car that is extremely hard to turn, and having to brake to a excessively slow speed in order to complete the turn in the space available. This seems to occur at slower speeds, such as when turning across an intersection or maneuvering in a parking lot. It occurs on both left and right turns. There is also a grinding sound that occurs at these times of power steering failure. Clearly, this is a huge safety issue. One of our top reasons for purchasing from Buick was their emphasis on safety for the family (we have 3 children). To discover that Buick have known about these steering issues for multiple years without addressing them is deeply disturbing to me as a customer, and demonstrates a corporate ethical imbalance that clearly will not be self-rectifying. Here are the steps we have taken to resolve the issue: our mechanic flushed out the power steering fluid several times, but this only moderately relieved the problem. Our next step options include replacing the complete steering gear and power steering pump, but those are hugely expensive tasks without any guarantee of permanently resolving the power steering issues. Research online shows multiple reports/ tech service bulletins regarding this issue occurring in vehicles with the same power steering system, to such an extent that there is a class action suit against gm. This appears to be an endemic issue with vehicles such as our Buick Enclave 2010, and gm need to be compelled to issue a recall notice and resolve this issue, as well as reimbursing those who have had to repair this issue themselves.

19 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2009 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 09/22/2015

The power steering failed while making a turn. It became very difficult to turn the wheel. The problem has occurred three times since, all when turning and at low speed. There is no noise associated with the issue. I am greatly concerned that the failure will cause an accident. Gm needs to issue a recall & repair these issue at no cost to the customer.

20 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2010 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

1. While driving, vehicle entered "reduced power mode" making it impossible to maintain speed. This is a safey issue as driver loses ability to maintain speed while traveling with flow of traffic and with reduced engine power, even the ability to pull out of the lane of travel is impaired. Dealer identified bad throttle body as cause and replaced. 2. Power steering pump failure. Issue was identified due to whining noise prior to complete failure. Had pump failed completely, driver could have lost control with power assist not available while driving. Pump was replaced and necessary associated repairs made by dealer.

21 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2009 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 09/11/2014

September 11, 2014 - power steering failed out of no-where while making a left hand turn into a parking lot. Difficult to move car into the parking spot. After approximately 90 minutes of being parked power steering was working fine. October 1st, 2014 while driving on a major highway the antilock brake system (abs) warning light on, stabilitrak indicator light on/service stabilitrak message displayed in dic. Since we were on the highway we continued driving until we got to our location and parked the car. Approximately 2 hours later we started the car and the warning lights were off. We then proceeded to drive home and less than a ¼ mile down the road the power steering failed again as we were making a left hand turn. This time it'¿¿s not resolving itself. Car is not drivable. .

23 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2010 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 08/15/2014

Slowed to turn right on a green light. As I slowed during the turn, the power steering failed not allowing me to turn the wheel. I was forced to veer into oncoming traffic from the cross street missing another vehicle coming at me by a few seconds. Seems like the exact recall gm recalled in April 2014 except my power steering is hydraulic not electronic.

The contact owns a 2010 Buick Enclave. The contact stated while driving 10 mph, the power steering failed and the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The contact had to apply force to the brake pedal in order to control the vehicle. None of the warning lights on the instrument panel illuminated when the failure occurred. The contact engaged the accelerator pedal and the power steering began to function normally. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the power steering pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage were 40,200.

26 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2010 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 06/10/2014

The power steering on my 2010 Buick Enclave stopped working slowly. I was almost unable to turn the steering wheel at all. Not only was the power steering a problem, but the "service airbag" light had been on for a couple of months. I took the car to a local dealership's service dept & told the service rep that my power steering was not working. I also asked the airbag recall be done on my car. The service rep advised me there were 2 recalls required, but the second if the 2 required she order parts. I left the car, a diagnostic was done ($119. 50) & I was told the power steering pump & steering rack would cost approximately $2,000. I had the car towed to a repair shop I have used for years and who I trust. This repair shop replaced the power steering pump, cleaned metal out of the system & filled the system in power steering fluid ($724. 00). I picked the car up & it seemed ok. Within a couple of days, the power steering failed again. This time the car had dumped power steering fluid. I had the car towed back to the same repair shop. They repaired the burst line & I picked up the car, which drove as it had before the problems began. I parked my car in my driveway with the front of the car below the rear of the car on a downward incline. The next morning, the car would not start. I called aaa and paid $90 to have the car towed again. The car was towed on a flatbed and when it arrived at the shop, it started immediately. I told the repair shop rep to park the car as I had, on an incline with the front lowered, overnight. He did & it would not start the next morning. He told me he rolled the car off of the incline & it started promptly. He suggested I take the car back to the dealer for the 2nd recall. I picked the car up and drove it for 2 days. It sounded bad, the steering stuck & the steering started making loud grinding noises & it smelled like something burning.

34 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2009 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 12/06/2013

While wife was driving her Buick Enclave with the kids the power steering pump failed and she narrowly averted being in an accident while trying to turn on an intersection. She was unable to maneuver the vehicle after the pump failed. Vehicle was taken to the dealership and it was confirmed that the pump was indeed bad. The dealer also stated that the need to keep the pump in stock because of the amount of failures they see on the Buicks and also the chevy traverse. A search on the internet revealed hundreds of complaints of people losing power steering on the chevys and Buick models with nothing being done by gm to remedy the situation. Losing the ability to steer a vehicle without any warning is a fatally or serious accident waiting to happen(if not already). Something needs done to have these known faulty parts recalled or a fix in place. Other Buick Enclave owners as well as the dealership have stated that replacing the pump does not permanently fix the problem but only delays the problem until it occurs again. Hopefully my wife and kids will stay out of harms way when it happens again. Please press gm for a fix to this problem before someone is injured.
