4 Steering Noise problem of the 2011 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 08/02/2016

Noticed a whining noise in my steering wheel when turning. Called the dealership and was told this was "normal". Not being satisfied with this took it in and insisted they check it. I was then told the rack and pinion is failing and needs to be replaced. The cost would be $2000. I bought this car new and it only has 41,000 miles on it. I feel that this should be paid by gm since this is a common complaint and very dangerous and could result in an accident. I will no longer buy anything built by gm if this is how they treat their customers. I paid $53,000 and I thought I would have this car for a few more years. I guess not.

5 Steering Noise problem of the 2010 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 07/04/2016

The power steering stops working intermittently. Without warning, the ability to steer the car becomes very difficult. This happens mostly in turns in intersections. Turning the vehicle back straight out of a sweeping 90 degree turn is almost impossible until a 5 to 8 second pause elapses. This is extremely dangerous, usually causing the driver to brake heavily in an intersection for what looks like no apparent reason. This is dangerous not only because of the lack of driver control, but you never know when it's going to happen. This is becoming more frequent and it can be purposefully reproduced if the steering wheel is turned rapidly while at a low speed. Also noticeable is a strange noise coming from the steering column just below the steering wheel at times, heard mostly at low speed in a quiet environment. It is a tiny somewhat vibrational sound similar to running your finger across the teeth of a very fine toothed hair comb. While this noise is noticeable and it can be felt in the steering wheel, it is not an indication that the steering is preparing to fail at that time. The noise comes and goes. . . It feels almost electrical in nature. The power steering pump reservoir has been checked and is full. The serpentine belt driving the pump is in good condition and has been determined to not be slipping. The rack and pinion is mounted securely and is not leaking externally.

9 Steering Noise problem of the 2008 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 06/07/2014

Since I bought my truck I heard a weird noise from the steering wheel I thought well maybe because im not used to it because before I was driving an Nissan x-terra 2002. So im a women don't know anything about cars so I said it looks good it was from only one owner before so I think we are good. Plus I thought it's not like I'm paying $5,000 for a truck and it's a Buick it's consider luxure so I didn't think I was making a bad choice. Well the noise it's getting worse I barely made it to my house yesterday because the steering wheel didn't want to work anymore it was raining so hard im 9 months pregnant I made that investment doing a huge sacrifice so me and my child could be protected, feel confident that at the end of the day we are in good hands in that truck. Also when I bought this truck a month later the air bag service light was on I did a research it said that this truck had a recall for that so I took it to the Buick and they fix it. And now the engine light turns on every now and then. I mean I'm doing everything I should for this vehicle I change oil regulary and I pay for the synthetic oil because they said it was better for this type of brand cars that are luxure for our middle class people. And it's not like I travel in that vehicle I only use it to go to work, groceries, family and friends house honestly I don't use it to travel where I live is a small town so it's not like I have this truck all over the place if you see it's like new it's the cxl it has 2 sunroof, leather seats, dvd player I mean im in love with this truck but c'mon that's not safe for me and my baby.

10 Steering Noise problem of the 2011 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 02/18/2014

Reported issue to dealer of car making whining noise at low speeds. Dealer says I need a new power steering rack, hoses and possibly a new pump! the car is a is only a 2011 and very well maintained! spoke with gm - they contacted dealer wondering why no recall since every single forum I read has hundreds of people complaining about this same exact issue. I was furious that they refuse to acknowledge this as a problem. They say that there are not enough power steering noise problems reported to require them to issue a recall. They say that they are not responsible for this decision. It is a federal safety issue and that they issue recalls based on numbers, however, this has not happened often enough to issue a recall. They are offering me a "deal" to get the car fixed at my dealer. They will pay all but $500 toward the rack and labor. I need to cover the hoses and possibly the pump if it is bad. Also, if there is a recall in the future I will be reimbursed retroactively for my expenses. Isn't this an admission that there is a problem??? I am so angry! my dealer, however sings a different tune from gm. Says that this problem exists quite frequently in the Enclave, acadia and the chevy traverse. . . . . . I am not sure that I believe or trust anything they have to say! I have a 2011 Enclave (which I absolutely loved up until now!) with 60k on it. Now out of warranty - eventually this will have to be fixed - leaving a very large dent in my pocket and a hole in my heart because I really thought I would have this car for a long time. However, once it is paid off I am dumping it. No more Buicks or gm cars for me. Not ever! I really wish that someone would begin investigating gm and this issue. It is a huge safety conce, not to mention a very expensive fix. Please contact me to discuss and let me know what concerned folks such as myself can do to deal with this! thank you!!!!!.

11 Steering Noise problem of the 2009 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 10/26/2013

The vehicle (2009 Buick Enclave) was being serviced at a gm dealer for investigation of a noise we have heard while driving the car. The mechanics determined that the noise was due to the steering mechanism which was beginning to fail and needed to be replaced to avoid potential loss of steering.

12 Steering Noise problem of the 2010 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

My steering completely sticks when turning either left or right at slow speeds. I have heard other Buick Enclave owners having the same issue right around 60,000 miles and around the make/model year 2010. There are over 200 complaints on edmund's Buick Enclave forum "power steering noise". It is frightening because it doesn't allow you to properly make the turn. I have taken it into my Buick dealership to confirm the issue and they did confirm that there are issues with the steering pump.

13 Steering Noise problem of the 2008 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 08/14/2013

Power steering making noise, front left side suspension making rattling sound.

14 Steering Noise problem of the 2008 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

This car has a whinning noise coming from the steering column that gets louder the more drive it. I have contacted the Buick care dept and they indicated it is a known problem but they will not fix it. They had me take my car to the Buick place where I purchased the vehicle and they come up with about 1900. 00 to fix this and say that it is a known problem with the Buick steering that some housing is too close to the steering column and it creates the noise and steering problems and that Buick and everyone else is aware of it and that they should issue a recall but do not. In addition I have engine stalling problems where there is lack of power upon sudden acceleration. This happens frequently.

15 Steering Noise problem of the 2008 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 08/23/2011

Power steering! issues with the power steering locking up while the car is in motion. Major safety issue. It is the worst when turning into a parking spot, hower when driving around a corner at normal speeds it is very hard to handle and changing lanes on the highway was also an issue. You can hear a roaring noise coming from the steering column.

16 Steering Noise problem of the 2008 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 11/28/2010

Grinding noise when turning steering wheel.

17 Steering Noise problem of the 2009 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 12/02/2009

In the past I had jerking or slipping of transmission at approximately 40 miles an hour, or the engine was having a coil miss fire. I had 3 new coils installed by dealer under warranty with similar problems before. Took to dealer and they could not determine if transmission was slipping or engine miss firing, but no code on miss firing engine. Slipping or hesitating of transmission is more likely but can not determine since does not act the same consistently. Steering noise started in the winter approximately November 2013, but off and on since; steering seems a little stiff but not failing yet like so many other complaints I have read about here. I was charged $342. 81 for dirty throttle body and oil in the air dust tube which might cause misfire, they cleaned and replaced bank 2 value cover and cleared codes, performed idle lean reset. This did not fix problem on 05/19/2014. I returned on 06/10/14 and left car till 06/11/14 the dealer let me use a loaner over night. The dealer said stumble/misfire at times was not acting up enough to diagnose. I had the cars automatic transmission flush service on 02/26/14 and there was no problem at that time. In the course of owning this vehicle I had 3 coils replaced with problems starting 01/05/10 one coil, second coil on 08/11/10. Third coil shortly thereafter, this is after complaining since 12/02/2009 about engine shudder. The misfire/stumble is still happening about 40 mph and sometimes around 20mph if you are slow going but not on a pull or accelerating. We love the car, but the problems are getting expensive and the worry of what else can go wrong is stressful. I did not mention the warranty repairs of water pump going out front motor mount failure, shift lever, airbags, seat belts, left out remote mirror failure, engine and transmission code updates. Dealer seem ok, so gm can not fix or will not due to cost.
