3 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2009 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 02/24/2020

My steering continues to lock up when driving. Making turns steering gets tight. I have had almost had an accident due to this safety issue. At this point I am concerned for my safety and children when driving. There seems to be alot of issues and complaints regarding a replacement steering gear/rack pinion and leaking fluid. At one point do gm think about the safety of their customers. This repair cost is $1709. 04. On top of other repairs I just paid $1812. 44 to fix other issues that I can somewhat understand but the steering gear and rack pinion is definitely an issue of concern to all families and can definitely loose their life. Every day I get in my vehicle my concern is will my family loose their life if my steering lock up or I cant avoid an accident due to the issue.

4 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2016 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 11/20/2019

Was driving my car and went to turn into the gas station. When I tried to turn it was a loud whirring sound. I took it back to where I bought it. I haven't even owned the car for 30 days yet. They said power steering fluid was leaking. They checked to see if it was coming from pump or hose and it was from the pump. So had to replace power steering pump. Got my car back last night and the steering still feels off it isn't making the whirring noise now. It is so hard to explain. It feels bouncy when you make a right turn I guess you could call it. The car makes a squeaking noise when turning as well and they couldn't figure out why.

5 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2015 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 04/23/2019

Right around 36000 miles my power steering pump had to be replaced because fluid was visible beneath the car and the source was determined to be the high pressure hoses and pump. At nearly 83,480 miles when the combo switch had to be replaced it was noticed there was a significant rack and pinion leak. I believe the earlier issue is somehow connected to early failure of the rack and pinion. Regardless, the tech said there was a 2016 with 52,000 miles on it that needed to have the rack and pinion replaced. He admitted that there is likely a fault in the part causing them to deteriorate before they should.

6 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2010 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 08/13/2018

Often when turning the vehicle power steering seems to loose power. It feels like I am driving a old car with no power steering. It happens at any speed. I seldom feel this from a stopped position. I seldom feel it when going straight. Some times I can feel it as I slow down to start a turn. It happens most in town. It can happen when coming off the interstate to make the first turn at an intersection. . . But not often. I see no leaks. The fluid is at the proper level.

7 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2012 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 11/15/2017

Front rack and pinion may develop leaks and need costly replacement. Symptoms include front end noise when turning right or left at low speeds and fluid leakage. Noise is similar to a bad strut or power steering issue. Buick customer service states there are no current recalls or service bulletins for rack and pinion on Enclaves.

9 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2012 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 05/02/2016

The car was bought brand new in 2013. My warranty expired 2 months ago. The car has only 27k miles. Already the power steering fluid line broke and leaking, causing very unsafe steering manipulation. The brake calipers have failed and leaking brake fluid again causing unsafe driving conditions. Buick will not fix these issues, which clearly are a result of poor quality.

10 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2011 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 04/28/2016

My 2011 Buick Enclave "power steering rack" was found leaking fluid during a routine oil change at my dealership, burns GMC, Buick dealer in marlton, n. J. . My 2011 Buick Enclave only has 57000 miles on it. It cost me $1200. 00 to get repaired. There is a "class action law suit" filed against gm for this same problem. Gm should recall these vehicles listed in the law suit and repair them free of charge. This is a very dangerous situation for someone to loose the steering of their vehicle while driving one of these vehicles.

11 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2012 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 03/16/2016

Car makes loud noise when turning right and steering becomes difficult. It is leaking fluid. The Buick mechanics tells me the gear noise boots are leaking and the noise heard is air in the system. They say the entire steering system has to be replaced. The car only has 50,000 miles. This is a gm defect. The 2010 Enclaves had the exact same power steering problem and were recalled. $1600 minimum to fix it.

12 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2012 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 11/23/2015

At 60,000 miles noticed a slight "squeak" in my steering when turning. Dealership checked it and stated I needed a new steering rack ". . . Found noice coming from sttering gear input shaft seal, but aslo found steering gear leaking fluid out both end of gear". Quoted me a $1589. 00 repair. I was informed this has been an issue on Enclaves & traverses, but not a recall.

13 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2011 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 10/09/2015

Vehicle made noise when turning the wheel. The dealer said the steering gear was leaking and as a result the low fluid resulted in power steering pump failure. I have read multiple reports online from customers stating that they had the exact same issues. This is clearly a manufacturing defect that gm should be held accountable to correct. The vehicle has just over 52k miles and I have owned it since it was brand new. Repair quote from a local dealership was $1100 for the steering gear, $360 for the pump, and $1000 for labor. These repairs are not covered under warranty despite the special extended warranty gm issued for power steering pump failure.

14 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2012 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 09/28/2015

On 9/28/2015 on the way to work, whenever you turn on to the road or just making a general turn there is a loss of power steering. There is power steering during straight driving and slight corrections; but , when you turn into an intersection or try to park, you have no power steering. I can handle the loss of power steering but if someone were elderly or not very strong, they would not be able to control the vehicle. This vehicle was just serviced. A complete front brake job, oil change, tire rotation and new rear shocks that the dealership said were leaking. I checked the power steering fluid according to the Buick owners manual and found that the fluid was within the recommended level. I am scheduling an appointment today to have this looked at. I wanted to inform the NHTSA as this is an extremely dangerous situation and just wanted to bring this to light for safety reasons. This has been a very reliable and safe vehicle but at this time it is extremely unsafe to drive. Thank you.

15 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2011 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

The power steering fluid is leaking after hearing loud grinding noise and difficult to steer while driving. Gm said they didn't see a problem and not part of the "special coverage" that involves a steering pump. Apparently, you need to almost crash your car before that is replaced. I received a quote to repair and it's at least $800. The car has 67k miles and is 5 years old - only owner.

16 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2012 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 10/30/2014

Steering gear boots leaking fluid on awd vehicle. Approx $1780 repair to replace steering gear seals needed per Chevrolet dealer service department.

17 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2010 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 09/09/2014

I was experiencing rubbing and resistance when making turns at slow speeds. I was driving with 6 kids in my car and was turning left across a major street and the power steering failed as I entered oncoming traffic. I was able to get the car turned. Got home and checked the steering fluid was empty. I refilled the steering fluid and it began leaking. Took the car to my mechanic and they found that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced ($1,000) and there is a service bulletin about the boots getting wet from some steering fluid, but my vehicle the steering fluid leaked so badly that the steering fluid needed to be refilled daily. The steering components in this vehicle are faulty and creating very dangerous situations. After searching online there are many many complaints from customers on similar dangerous situations of them turning into oncoming traffic and the steering failing. It is only a matter of time before something tragic happens. My vehicle is a 2010 with 65,000. It should not have this sort of issue. It is no longer covered under manufacturer warranty.

18 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2010 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

At low speeds, the steering assist freezes the steering momentarily so that the driver loses control of the vehicle while driving. Steering fluid reservoir has been confirmed full, no leaks. Issue was intermittent, and now occurring more frequently.

19 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2009 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 11/22/2013

The contact owns a 2009 Buick Enclave. The contact stated that while sitting at a complete stop, smoke emitted into the cabin from under the hood. The engine compartment then became engulfed in flames. The fire department was called to the scene and the vehicle was towed to a private mechanic where it was discovered that the power steering components had failed and allowed fluid to leak onto the manifold. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

20 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2009 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 11/13/2013

I brought my car into the dealership in late 2012 for a sound that it was making when I turned my steering wheel. They told me it was "an air bubble in the power steering line" the sound never went away and only got worse- I brought it back into the shop this week- 11/13/13- not the dealership- and I am not being told that my power steering is going out and it has been leaking fluid and damaged my rack and pinion. Clearly there are numerous other customers with this same issue and people have had their power steering fail on them while driving- this is a huge safety issue and in my opinion due to the rate of occurrence should be addressed by the manufacturer.

21 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2008 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 09/22/2013

Power steering failed out of no-where while turning at an intersection. Barely missed side-swiping a police car. Only had assist under high rpm's. (I am an adult and have had previous experience driving vehicles with no power steering, my teenage children would have not known what to do or how it feels to lose power steering, so I am thankful that this happened while I was driving the car and not them!) this was an extremely hazardous situation, and no recall? car was completely unsafe to drive. Prior to this incident the vehicle made loud whirling noises when the steering wheel was being turned. Dealership found steering rack-leaking from end seals, they flushed power steering system and power steering gear, pump, fluids replaced. $1987. 49 to make the car safe to drive again.

22 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2010 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 06/20/2013

I purchased this car used with around 70,000 miles. I noticed after driving it for a short time after the purchase that the power steering shuts off when conducting low speed turns, nearly causing me to have a few wrecks. This is especially noticeable in parking lots that require precise steering. I have not noticed any issues driving around curves at highway speeds, only slow turns at 20 mph or less. The power steering fluid level is normal, and there are not any leaks that I could find. After getting a recall notice about the water pump shaft (notice 13079) and looking it up on-line, I saw that the power steering issue I have is very common, however there are not any recalls for that. . . Yet, although there needs to be.

23 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2010 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 04/19/2013

Inspection reveals power steering fluid need replacing, found rack and pinion leaking into boots.

24 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2010 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

Shortly after purchasing the vehicle from a dealership (used), the steering started to get very difficult when turning left or right at slow speeds. As this was a used vehicle, there was no warranty. The power steering fluid level was checked and was at the correct level and there were no noticable leaks of fluid. When turning the vehicle into the driveway, into a parking spot, or turning from a stop sign (left or right), the steering will randomly almost lock up requiring additional force to complete the turn. We have been fortunate to date that this has not caused us to turn into oncoming traffic or run off the road into a ditch. This seems to be a serious problem with the Buick Enclave that gm has not yet saw fit to address. Sadly there is a new power steering pump and rack & pinion assembly in the near future for my Enclave that I feel should be covered by the manufacturer as a design flaw. With it affecting the basic functionality of the steering, this definitely is a safety issue! simple research on the web turns up multiple hits for people complaining of the exact same problems.

25 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2009 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 10/05/2011

The steering will bind up and almost lock up resulting in a very difficult turn. This is a major safety issue as if the vehicle will not turn there could easily be a crash. This "steering lock up" issue seems to happen while turning into an entrance, or parking lot or turn signal or onto another road. There are no issues while driving but having a vehicle lock up while trying to turn is a problem. This safety issue not only affects the driver and passengers but it also affects the safety of the general public. This vehicle has been in the Buick shop 3 times for this issue-1st time I was told it was the power steering fluid, but that didn't fix it. The second time I was told it was a defective water pump leaking onto the drive belt but that didn't fix it. The 3rd time I was told that they could not find the issue but they would file a claim. Well, the issue still exists and I have emailed Buick customer service with no response but this is a major safety issue that must be resolved!.

26 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2008 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 06/17/2010

I was driving my Enclave and I pulled into a parking lot I lost power steering. I called on star and they said it was not something they could diagnose. Suggested I check the ps fluid. . . I did and it was just below the min line. I added fluid, it got better but I could still sense some problem. Svc shop said there was a leak, needed to replace the rack and pinion. Bringing to dealer next. I've seen several complaints/articles about pw pump problems, leaks. I have 60,200 miles. Seems like this is a big safety issue (what if I lost ps on the highway), why isn't gm doing something about it?.

27 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2008 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

Steering unit emits growling noise when turning the wheels. There is feedback thru the steering wheel. I have had the power steering fluid changed at 10,000 mile intervals and that seems to help, but the service station that changes my oil tells me that the unit needs to be replaced! he has seen the same issue on the GMC acadia and Saturn SUV as well. Also, we continue to have wet carpet on the passenger side due to the sun roof leaking.

28 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2009 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 03/10/2010

Squeaking breaks and steering noise. Resubmitted for repair could not duplicate at dealership. Resubmitted in 2011 and 2013, water pump replaced, steering gear box replaced, steering pump replaced, throttle body cleaned. Engine timing off at idle, harsh/ruff transition between gear shifts. Rear hatch failed to operate. Sensor replaced, then actuator replaced, then control buttons replaced then final control button and internal door sensors replaced not by warranty, rear hatch struts failed and dropped on child and owners heads, open and close buttons non responsive on remote for the hatch. Only the interior hatch release button worked. Onstar would not power down, no notice it was connected, dropped cell calls and killed battery. Upon jumping, the control module for onstar failed as did cellular antenna not covered by warranty. Brakes squeaking and fluttering plus pulse at slow down. Master cylinder had hydraulic fluid leaking into brake lines, boost pump failed and repeated flushing did not clear the system. Air in lines caused brake failure near collision avoided with evasive operator driving maneuvers, 3rd flush cleared the lines not covered by warranty. Steering unstable on uneven roadways and in left and right turns, repeat/recur, final submission 4th time, engine mount broken and possible spark plugs for idle problems. Replaced sparke plugs did not resolve idle speed or hard shift out of 3/5 gears. A/c outage three times, no leak detected, freon loaded and reloaded: evaporator coil diagnosed as problem. Total dash disassembled, several electrical issues surfaced since including onstar, ecm errors, nav sys stayed on, cell phone not connecting and check engine light illuminating without cause codes. Over $16500 in repairs completed on this vehicle, some covered by warranty, some not, by 2013 nearly all repairs not covered by extended warranty.

29 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2008 Buick Enclave

Failure Date: 02/26/2009

I was driving on randall road traveling about 50 mph. I slowed to enter a right turn lane and the steering began to shudder when I moved the steering wheel. I braked aggressively and was able after much effort to maneuver the Enclave into a parking space. I phoned my husband and upon arrival found that the steering wheel would not move with the engine running. He phoned the dealer and Buick assistance. After 3 hours the car was loaded on a truck and taken to the dealer. The service person stated that the cooler line had developed a pin hole leak and lost fluid to the power steering system. I am still waiting since the steering pump was also damaged. No mention of replacing the rack and pinion (my husbands help with that term). I do not feel comfortable driving a car that the steering locks up if the power steering system fails. This could have been a fatal outcome under different circumstances because I could not steer the car. This is the third safety related problem since it was delivered December 31, 2007. The driver windshield wiper came loose (husband fixed) and the right rear strut weld failed leaking oil all over the garage floor and making the car feel loose driving it to the dealer for repairs. We have also noticed the passenger seat belt sign does not always work. I do not trust this car. The only bright spot is the dealership has been very responsive.
