Air Bag Problems of Buick Lesabre - part 2

My 2002 Buick le sabre dashboard is peeling up & out along inside front window, also under radio and air bag, no dealer can fix it or auto repair shop. Afraid air bag is going to open up on passenger side. . . Dash is opening under it.

My front dashboard has been gradually coming unattached near the windshield. It has gotten so bad that it is hindering my view of the road. My daughter is just learning to drive and we have decided it is not safe for her to use my vehicle because her view of the road is blocked by the lifted dashboard. This is truly a safety hazard and I cannot believe Buick has refused to acknowledge this defect which is affecting so many of their customers.

The padded dash has peeled up and away from dash frame in front of the steering wheel. It is continuing to spread (peel up and away from the frame) across the padded dash from left to right, towards the passenger area. It continues to grow in severity, and I am concerned about the passenger airbag, with respects to it deploying without warning, due to the peeling/warping of the dash around it. I have put a dash mat (cover) over the problem for appearance purposes, but even that doesn't hide the growing magnitude of the problem anymore. I have been told that it will cost me anywhere from $350 - $1,200. 00 to correct this problem from independent repair shops in the area, to the gm Buick dealer. This is a design flaw, & "safety" issue direct from the manufacturer. Other than this ever increasing problem, the car is in immaculate condition, & I would like to keep it due to its mechanical reliability, fuel economy, & comfort. I believe an oem padded dash replacement, should be made a recall on the part of gm as this has not happened due to negligence, age of the vehicle (it began when the car was relatively new), or accident. I respectfully look forward to receiving a response from you.

I have had to replace all four power window motors, the dash is coming apart and is raised blocking some visibility and potentially affecting the air bag deployment in an accident. In addition, it seems to me that braking vibration / pulsation has been a problem on all five of my Buick Lesabres.

My parents purchased a 2001 Buick Lesabre from the dealership new. Both parents (father now deceased) retired and moved to florida in 2001, and very rarely drove the vehicle. My father passed away in February of this year (2012) and my mother asked me if I wanted the car. I drove to florida to pick up the car and noticed the dash panel was all buckled and looked horrible. I asked my mother what had happened and thought perhaps it was due to the south florida heat, but my mother said it started in 2006 and they had brought it back to dealer multiple times and was told it was not a warranty issue and would cost over $1000 to repair. After searching online for replacement dash panels I discovered this is a problem with the vehicle and has been for sometime, florida heat had nothing to do with it, I believe this is a manufacturing defect and will cause the airbag to deploy causing injury.

I have a 2003 Buick Lesabre that the dash has come unglued and has buckled up half way across the dashboard. The dash is mainly affected in the area infront of the steering wheel, but is getting worse and spreading towards the center and passenger side. I'm really scared to drive my car. So afraid the airbags may not work correctly in an emergency, or even worse, that the airbags go off for no apparent reason! I have friends with the same problem. There is an internet link with a Buick Lesabre forum where many other dissatisfied Lesabre owners are complaining of the same problem. Therefore, I know mine is not an isolated case. I have contacted the dealership where I purchased the car. They told me gm was not responsible for this problem. An estimate of $525. 49 was given just for a new upper dash. This did not include labor. Please help!!!.

The consumer stated the horn will not stop blowing, and the air bag assembly is making a noise. The sound is coming out of the steering wheel. When driving the horn just starts blowing out of nowhere, it just starts blowing, specifically states the consumer. When pressing the horn pad it will stop sometimes. One has to press in a certain spot. The car is a 1997 Buick Lesabre. The consumer is going to call and see what gm can do. This has been happening for two weeks.

Dash panel is separating from frame , started in front of driver & progressing towards passenger side where air bag is located which is a possible safety problem ,not to mention resale or trade in.

While driving in traffic at 55 mph airbags deployed inadvertently. Vehicle was not in an accident.

Air bag and security light comes on then goes off. The entire dash light goes off with all instruments going to zero function. Dealer has been working since sept2004 to correct problem. Replacing main cpu on Nov 25,2004 did not correct problem. Returning to dealer Dec 8,2004 for more effort to find and correct problem.

The vehicle's air bags deployed, dashboard collapsed and windshield shattered in two places after tapping another vehicle. The consumer indicated that the damage to both vehicle's was minimal. The driver sustained abrasion on her arm from the air bag/air bag gases.

Intermittently the horn would sound off and would not shut off. Dealer inspected the vehicle, and found that the air bag assembly was defective. The horn sounded off twenty times since last June.

I bought 2002 Buick Lesabre brand new and after approximately I year the dash began to buckle almost the entire length of the windshield. It is now approx 3 to 4 inches high. I went to car gurus. Com and realized hundreds of people were having the same problem. I did not realize that this problem could impair air bag deployment. I believe this warrants a recall.

Airbag deployment caused dislocated broken thumb and possible permanent injury. On second passenger, severe tinnintus possibly from air bag explosion.

The horn doesn't sound for me and dealer says it can not be adjusted because of air bag in steering wheel. I have arthritic hands and can not push the horn hard enough or in the correct spot to use it in case of an emergency. Dealer said they have had other complaints from owners about this problem. Dt.

Consumer states that while driving without warning the air bag inadvertently deployed. Dealer notified.

The dash board is seperating at the seams all the way to the air bags. It may lead to possible air bag deployement on passenger side.

Air bag broke plastic but did not inflate; neck injury resulted from whiplash.

Intermittently horn doesn't blow. Dealer diagnosed air bag as the cause. Dealer was notified.

The integration of the air bag system to the horn failed causing the horn to sound very loudly continuously. Yh.

When driving the vehicle and trying to use the horn, the horn didn't make any sound. Consumer considered this to be a safety defect. The dealer replaced parts of the air bag. The consumer vehicle had been in the shop six times and they can't determine the problem.

Consumer sits too close to steering column to be able to use the air bag safely. Concern about air bag (other than short person). Added on 09-07-1999.

Horn stopped working on vehicle. Owner took vehicle into dealership to get horn repaired. He was shocked when told by dealership that his air bag was inoperative. Owner expresses concern due to him not knowing how long his air bag was non-functional. Please describe details.

The horn required excessive pressure to activate. The dealer stated the problem was due to the air bag placement. Mr scc.

My problem is a replacement one is not available at this time to complet the repairs made to my car after my accident on 6/23/00 when I struck a deer & the air bags both employed.

Air bag deployment was violent, causing injuries to the driver: cuts on throat, chin and mouth, bruises on chest, left arm and hand, broken right finger.

It is difficult for the consumer to blow the horn. The consumer believes this problem may be caused by the air bag clock spring.
