The way this happened again for the second time as I was driving in motion around cloverleaf about 20 miles an hour when all of a sudden it sounded like I was dragging garbage cans behind my car as to then I pulled over and put my hazards on and got out and looked behind my car to see nothing when I put it in drive again the car would not move and you just heard the rear and gears and pins spinning without making the car move extremely loud and dangerous my wife could have been hurt if the rear end locked redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. 7 Axle Shaft problem of the 2004 Cadillac CTS

Failure Date: 04/20/2007

1) I took my car in on 3/30 complaining of a leaking rear differential. I was informed nothing was wrong with the vehicle. 4/20 I was driving on the highway at normal speeds. I down shifted and heard a loud bang. The engine revved yet the car wouldn't move. The rear differential had quite literally exploded. 2) the housing to the rear differential shattered causing one of the bolts to come out and the remainder of the housing to hang at an angle. The internals of the differential looked as though a grenade had been set off in them. The passenger side rear half shaft was hanging out of the housing. 3) I'm currently locked in a fight with my local Cadillac dealership. They are trying to refuse warranty.
