Own a 2014 Cadillac Cts (VIN: [xxx] ) that was serviced under gm recall n192279370 for rear axle differential seizing. On [xxx], the dealership replaced the rear differential carrier assembly and performed the required hydraulic system bleed. At intake, their own multi-point inspection documented no issues with the transmission, radiator, or cooling system. Immediately after the recall repair, my vehicle experienced severe issues: transmission slipping and radiator contamination with transmission fluid. These problems did not exist prior to the recall service. The dealership now claims the damage resulted from “stop leak” in the system and refuses warranty coverage. However, stop leak was not used until after the failure occurred, and only as an emergency measure to get the car home safely. The evidence strongly indicates that the failure resulted from the recall service, possibly from improper reconnection or contamination during the repair. Their refusal to acknowledge responsibility leaves me with significant repair costs for a problem that began directly after their mandated safety recall work. I am requesting NHTSA’s assistance in investigating this case, as the failure appears to be linked to the recall repair and raises concerns of improper procedures during service. Documentation, including service invoices, inspection sheets, and repair notes, are available to support this complaint. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

I began hearing a “hum” when driving my vehicle and dismissed it thinking it was the type of low profile, no flat tires. After a getting new tires, brakes, brake pads, and control arms, we still heard the “hum” and it continued to get louder. We took the car to 4 different places where they all stated the rear differential is the problem. I never had a service engine light come on. We found out that there was a recall on this part for other Cadillac Cts vehicles but my VIN did not come up as one that has a recall. I have had my rear differential fluid serviced and changed right before 30k miles. I now have a little over 95k miles and am told there is a back order for this part due to how many other Cadillac Cts vehicles are having the same issue. This could make car lock up at any time while driving. I transport my grandchildren and elderly mother in this vehicle regularly. We have been told that it will take over $6k to fix and since the part is on back order, it will be several months before it can be fixed. This is not only a dangerous and possibly deadly circumstance, but extremely inconvenient and expensive. This part needs to be recalled for all Cadillac Cts vehicles and the parts need to be available as soon as possible.

The gear shifter cable on my 2014 Cadillac Cts failed completely and without warning. The vehicle became totally inoperable and could not be shifted into park, neutral, reverse, or drive. There were no dashboard alerts or signs of failure. This matches the exact symptoms described in gm recall no. 21v473000. However, my vehicle was excluded from further action because it had previously received a visual-only inspection during the recall window. No functional testing was performed. Despite being marked as “repaired,” the shifter cable failed exactly as described in the original recall. Gm confirmed that the recall case was closed after a visual inspection per their protocol. But this inspection clearly failed to detect a dangerous mechanical defect. I have now been without a working vehicle for over two weeks, with the earliest dealership appointment not available until the week of July 7 — and a $180 diagnostic fee quoted, with no guarantee of repair coverage. This breakdown could have resulted in a crash or rollaway if it had occurred while driving or parked on an incline. It poses a serious safety risk not just to me but to the public. Vehicles cleared with insufficient inspection should not be excluded from protection. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this failure, hold gm accountable for prematurely closed recall cases, and consider requiring them to reopen and expand the campaign to include vins like mine. I am willing to provide photos, documentation, and records as needed. Thank you for your attention and swift consideration.
The contact owns a 2014 Cadillac Cts. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the contact heard an extremely loud bang, after which the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway and observed smoke coming from the rear axle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the rear axle differential. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 20v038000 (power train); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 170,000.
I believe it’s the transmission it’s not changing gears like it supposed to only have 52,000 miles on the dash. It’s have to be defective. No incident.

Driving to work on very busy highway. The engine light and service battery charging system came on, then went to battery saver almost instantly. Radio cut off, heat cutt off and the car cut off in the middle of the highway before I could safely get over. This caused me to fear for my life as the cars behind me barely had time to stop. A hair probably could not have fit between us. I did eventually safely get off the highway, had the car towed to a service center. There was 14 different codes. (low voltage, engine running lean, low voltage and more. Battery was checked and was 95 %, alternator fine. Was told it was the ecm. After looking on google some sites say there is a recall for 2013 Cts some say there is not. There are multiple complaints on this issue and it is not safe. I called Cadillac gave my VIN number and was told there was not a recall. Cadillac/GMC really need to issue a recall before something tragic happens, as it almost was me. Thank god that it wasn't.

The rear differential started making noise and growling. Upon draining the differential, we found a lot of metal debris. Upon reading on this issue, we found that Cadillac has had this issue with past models. It seems that the original g. M. Part is no longer available. This could be a safety risk if the rear wheels are to lock up due to debris. It has not been confirmed by the dealer, the vehicle is out of warrantee at 91,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2014 Cadillac Cts a. The contact stated while driving at approximately 45 mph she heard an abnormal sound from the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated that it sounded like an amplified road noise. Additionally, the contact stated that there was an intermittent sharp jarring of the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle was downshifting to a lower gear independently. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who had diagnosed and determined that the differential was cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact had researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 20v038000 (power train). The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
The output shaft flange for the transmission that mounts to the driveshaft coupler the flange starts to break away and then breaks . I can provide photos but the metal on the part is close the the end and if I did not find this problem by mistake the drive shaft would have came free.

I just recently purchased my Cadillac. And the rear end is going out! I literally cannot even drive it anywhere because it is about to lock up completely. It will barely go and definitely doesn't want or like to go uphill. I could hardly go 20 miles per hour when I parked it the other night. There has not been an incident yet but if I hadn't parked it, it could've locked up completely when I was going down the highway is what my mechanic friend told me. It was not bad until just the day before it got to this point. It was making a little bit of a humming noise which I thought was just a wheel bearing the other night because that's exactly what it sounded like. But, the night I parked it it had started making like a loud thumping noise when I would try to accelerate. The more I would accelerate the louder the noise and it just didn't want to go. So, I parked it and that's where it's been since. So, I got online to look and see if there were any recalls for this issue. I find that there is a recall for the 2014 Cts-v for the rear end. I think it's not only the Cts-v models I think it's the regular Cts's as well. Can you check into this for me because I literally just bought this car and haven't even gotten my license plate yet and now I can't even do that or go anywhere for that matter. I am a business owner and I rely on my vehicle and I can't even get to work to open my store right now,. I would greatly appreciate it if you could check into if this recall shouldn't be extended to the regular Cts models as well. Thanks and have a great day.
The rear differential has failed in my vehicle, and I was told by the dealer it is a safety hazzard & could lock up, leave me stranded or cause an accident. (this is the same safety issue as thousands of other vehicles most from 2014 & 2015 that is on a recall).
Rear differential failed on a vehicle with 60,000 miles and required a $4,200 repair. The manufacturer warranty covers up to 70,000 miles, but the age of the vehicle voided the warranty. Five year manufacturer warranty and the vehicle is 7 years old, but within the mileage. Without the repair the vehicle is worthless, whereas it is worth @$14,000 {kelly blue book}. Checked online and it is not uncommon for this model and the newer CT-5/6 models to have this issue.
Unknown I have been driving my car for 2 years now. For about the last year the steering in has been handling horrible and I have checked all parts every think is in good condition. I have read online it's a common problem and I see it as a safety concern especially since it's recalled on the same vehicle different VIN. So when driving down the highway it's hard to stay centered and the car pulls different directions and the steering gets stiff to where it feels locked up. It is electrical power steering and I have experience from a prior experience with a 2009 pontiac g6. All these parts should of been recalled and not just a handful.
The primary issue with the vehicle is the failure of the front transmission pump seal (part #24225543) and the torque converter seal ( part #242337534 ) which caused a significant transmission fluid leak. The original repair of the torque converter seal was done in Jan 2024 by andrews Cadillac in mt juliet TN. Failure to properly repair the torque converter seal led to internal damage within the transmission, resulting in the need for a full transmission replacement. The front pump seal was not replaced as recommended by the service repair manual at the time of the torque converter seal replacement. The faulty component is available for inspection upon request. The safety of myself and others was put at risk due to the vehicle's hesitation to accelerate after stopping, a direct consequence of the low transmission fluid. This hesitation causes a sudden loss of power while driving, increasing the likelihood of an accident. There is a delay and then a hard shift when off , a significant bump when shifting from first to second gear and when I stop it feels like I've been rear ended by another car. The issue has been confirmed by multiple service centers, including parker Cadillac, orr Cadillac, and christian brothers automotive, all of which identified the transmission pump seal as the source of the leak and the resulting damage to the transmission. Additionally, christian brothers automotive found that the torque converter seal was also leaking, further contributing to the vehicle's transmission problems. Despite efforts to have gm engineers inspect the vehicle at orr Cadillac, they declined. However, christian brothers automotive has provided a thorough inspection and diagnostic of the . There were no warning lamps or error codes indicating the issue, as it was a mechanical failure rather than an electronic one. The symptoms became apparent when the vehicle began hesitating after coming to a stop, and a transmission fluid leak was discovered during the inspection?.

The all wheel drive link is not working. This causes the stabilitrac and abs to go out leaving only rear wheel drive. With very little weight in the rear of the car, it is very difficult to drive in snow or rain conditions as the car slides very easily. This is the 2nd time it's happened.

The contact owns a 2017 Cadillac Cts. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer for maintenance. The contact was advised by the dealer that the differential was leaking and diagnosed the differential and determined that the roll pins and pinion gear were showing unusual wear. The contact had the vehicle repaired. The contact stated that one year later the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer and the contact was advised that the differential was leaking. The vehicle had not been diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the two failures to NHTSA campaign number: 20v038000 (power train). The failure mileage was 105,188.
Rear differential failed @ 44,600 miles. Dealer said car was unsafe to drive. Dealer unable to obtain replacement after 30 days. Internet search shows this to be a known issue.

The gears inside the rear-differential of a 2014 Cts luxury 3. 6 liter Cadillac, with 48,000 miles, failed to the point where the whole differential had to be replaced. This defect is extremely dangerous to the owner of the vehicle, as well as others on the road. If the differential fails to the point where the tires lock up, the driver can lose control of the car. There were no warning messages relating to the problem and the problem did not come on gradually. There was a sudden loud grinding noise that came from the rear of the car, while driving, and the car was immediately taken to a Cadillac dealership for inspection. The dealership mechanic/technician determined that the rear differential completely failed and needed to be replaced. (the oil was drained from the differential and there were metal shavings inside the oil. ) upon research on the internet, it was determined that this rear-differential defect is an extensive problem, as other 2014 Cadillac Cts owners are experiencing a similar problem. Cadillac has recalled the 2014 Cts-v for this rear differential defect but has not acknowledged the same problem with the 2014 Cts 3. 6 liter (it appears to be the same product/part design. ).
My car was unsafe to drive. It would not shift into drive. I had it towed to a mechanic who diagnosed the problem. I was informed the differential was the problem. I could not drive my car until the repair was done. No one had the differential part in the USA. My car is 2014 Cts with only 66,000 miles. Can I be reimbursed for this repair?.
The contact owns a 2011 Cadillac Cts. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine started to make an unusual sound and was inadvertently vibrating. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact stated that the failure is similar to the recall NHTSA campaign: 14v341000 (air bag, power train). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 165,000.

No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the rear axle differential assembly. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related it to NHTSA campaign number 20v038000 (power train), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 94,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Cadillac Cts. The contact stated the transmission fluid would leak and the vehicle would stall when driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission fluid was significantly low and was refilled. The contact stated the vehicle was driven home where on arrival the transmission fluid was depleted again. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000.
At the moment, the vehicle is releasing a strong order smells like burning oil or gasoline. It’s coming from the rear of the vehicle. You can smell it immediately when you step out and in the car. The rear is making a loud cranking noise and starting to shake. It appears based on the information that it’s a huge possibility it’s my rear differential going out. It posses a threat due to the anticipation of the brakes locking and causing a serious accident to my family or other on the road. Ive taken very good care if the vehicle and done all the required maintenance on the vehicle. Went though gm motors repair shops.
Car went crazy one day while behind the wheel everything malfunctioned then car shut off and won't start again. I could of easily got into an accident had there been any other vehicles around. 2014 Cts 3. 6 differential was replaced in 2019 under manufactures warranty. Les than 50k miles later the differential has gone out again. The dealer will not honor the previous install and wants to charge me close to $6k to fix. This is a known problem with every model because they all have the same differential. Gm will only honor the turbo version of the 2014 Cts with the same defective rear end. This can be very dangerous if the rear end locks while driving at any speed. Gm is putting my family and others on the road by ignoring a known issue. I am calling out putnam Cadillac in berlingame CA. Taking a blind eye to a known issue.
My rear differential gear is failing on my 2015 Cadillac Cts luxury 2. 0t. I just reached approx 69,000 miles upon returning from an approx 2,200 mile trip to the east coast from texas. I noticed a whine like noise after my drive back to texas that seemed to get louder and louder coming from the rear of the vehicle. I took my vehicle to firestone for inspection and it was confirmed the rear differential was failing. I was also advised the the seal were leaking as noted in the attached report. I was shown the drain plug which had an abundance of metal shavings present to confirm. The fluid was replaced and I was advised to follow up ASAP. Upon researching the issue I discovered this is a common issue confirmed on the Cadillac forums. This issue could’ve left me stranded or worse, caused an accident as I was traveling around the christmas and the new year to visit family during peak travel times. There were no warning signs or indications via my vehicle warning systems nor was there any contact from my Cadillac dealer or gm representatives. My vehicle is currently available for inspection as the issue has not been resolved.
The contact owns a 2009 Cadillac Cts. The contact stated that while at a traffic light, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle made an abnormal sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact about technical service bulletin:10-07-30-005a (transmission output shaft and transfer case input shearing). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Differential is going bad and it’s only got 60k miles on it and if the wheels lock up that is bad. And I can’t find the part nowhere.
The rear differential is making a howling noise. The Cts v sport was recalled but not the regular Cts. Many other customers have made compliant on different websites. I am hoping to have the recall done so I don’t have to spend money on the car. It will be an expensive fix.
I was driving down the road going bout 29 miles per hour when I heard a big boom. It sounded nd felt like I had hit something . So I slowed down and pulled over to the side of the road put the car in park looked underneath nothing was there . I then preceeded to my at. Which thank god was only another block away . I started going only going maybe 5 miles per hour at this point because it sounds like I'm dragging like metals on the ground . When I got to my apt. I went to park the car when I went to put it into park it would not go when I went to reverse it would nit go it still went into drive and thts it and even getting it into driveyou really had to push it and it felt like the tires were going to wobble off , I mean bye this time it just felt like the car was gonna fall apart shaking abd wobbling all over because I kept trying g to go from drive to neutral to get it to go into park but it didn't budge I had to leave it in neutral and put on the emergency break and shut the car off leaving my key I side cause it ws stuck due to the car not going into park. When I came out of my apt. I ws just frazzled I didn't understand wht ws going on she hd been running beautifully. But I did remember when I first test drove her I had told the sales man she had felt like I ws pulling something she ws kinda hesitant to excelerate . He assured me she's had a 5 star inspection and the whole cars under warranty nd he works on Cadillacs himself . Yada yada yada. I had called. Friend to come help me tow her home . He tried to get her to manually go into drive but it still wouldn't budge he thought maybe the shift link u til we got her home it was the drive shaft it had sheered off all the bolt one half was on the one part the other part of the bolt were broke off where it connected to the tyranny. He said you can't replace this with out trying to back our the bolts but there metric bolts and would be hard to find . And I would just be better off with a new driveshaft.
• rear differential is malfunctioning and is making a loud roaring, grinding noise. Is available for inspection. • safety concern is no warning lamps notify you of malfunction and if differential goes out while driving wheels can lock up and increase the chance of a crash, and is a danger to passengers as well. • called dealer and was told part was discontinued probably because they know it is a bad part. Was told to rebuild or find a used part from junkyard. 2 independent service centers confirmed differential is malfunctioning. • no warning lamps to notify you , loud roaring, grinding noise can be heard .
Was simply driving my normally and out of no where there was a loud pop and driving the car all I heard was a loud grinding noise as I stepped on the gas, and the car would not shift into reverse. No lights or warnings had ever popped up into the dash. Also very strong burning and metal smell came from the car. I have taken the car to an independent repair shop and was determined the rear differential has gone bad. Apparently many other people with similar year vehicles have had the same issues with this make and model of car, to add on another car like mines came into the same shop with the same problem.
Rear carrier assembly is making grinding noise. Mechanic says that driving car could be life threatening. Gm and Cadillac dealership has no parts. So car is useless. The car has 56,000 miles. There should be a recall and remedy for this model, 2014 Cadillac 3. 6l Cts. Especially when the v version of this car already has a recall. Gm should be held accountable for this design flaw.
I have 75,000 miles on a 2014 Cadillac and the rear differential is bad, they have recalled this same differential on the same year of vehicle but only if it was in the turbo model. What's the difference? same part, same thing is wrong.
Rear differential is failing, making a loud grinding, howling, screeching sound. Cadillac has already recalled rear diff on same year Cts-v (some models), but not for this or other Cts models, but finding replacement parts is almost impossible because a lot of people are having the exact same failure.
