Power Train Problems of Cadillac CTS - part 2

Rear differential failure confirmed by the dealer at 41,000 miles. Told not to drive it as rear wheels could lock up causing accident. Rear was making load noise 2 days prior to failure with fluid leak upon inspection. Dealer states failure is under warranty but no parts available for 3-6 months.

2014 Cts with 53,000 miles. Loud whining noise started in rear of vehicle. Went to the shop and was told that the rear differential is bad. Technician stated that this is a known widespread problem with this model Cadillac. He also stated that there are no parts available and has 9 other customers waiting for the manufacturer to supply the part. He is being told by gm that it could be up to 6 months wait for the parts. Why is there not a recall. I hope that nobody gets seriously injured due to the faulty parts!.

Rear differential has gone bad. Hundreds, if not thousands of these vehicles have had this issue. Nothing is being done! it’s a shame that us Cts owners are stuck with these problems.

Differential are bad in these cars with only 60,000 miles and and if it goes out, car could lock up causing an accident. Recall has been issued but not for all vehicles. Which there are a lot more vehicles with the issue than that have an recall put in them. 2014 Cadillac Cts rwd 3. 6l like mine should be recalled immediately.

I notice the differential was leaking and had to repair it but I am not certain if this will happen again.

The vehicle hard shifts in low gear and at low speeds. The hard shifting makes the car hard to handle in slow speed situations such as parking lots. Because the car lurches forward unexpectedly, it poses a safety concern toward nearby pedestrians.

The vacuum pump failed and caused catastrophic engine failure. The vacuum pump was constructed with substandard design and the composition of the parts within the vacuum pumps internal components. The vacuum pump is an integral part of the emissions system, the braking system and the engine. This is not an isolated incident as the replacement vacuum pump, even if replaced, will fail again. The pump should have been designed with a shear pin so the engine camshaft would not have been destroyed.

I have 2 complaints. #1 the transmission shifts extremely hard in and out of gear 1. This issue a known issue, but gm has no resolution. There is a bulletin. The problem is, my car is no shifting poorly in all gears and causing a serious safety issue at all speeds and gears. It won't go into gear causing safety concerns. I have reported the transmission issue multiple times while under warranty and it is now worse outside of warranty! #2 adaptive cruise has also been reported multiple times and I have paid to get both front sensors replaced. Only to have the issue continue. The dash will show a car is in the path, but there is a 2-3 second delay before car starts to slow down. Often brakes do not engage and the alarms just go off. I have driven a loaner car of similar years and they do not operate the same. This car is an outlier.

General motor's design oversights irreversibly damaged the rear differential carrier of my 2014 Cadillac Cts4 around 75,000 to 80,000 miles. Unfortunately, there is no prior indication of the rear differential carrier assembly leaking fluid or damaging the bearing. Only after the problem occurs, the rear differential assembly starts to make a whining sound that can be heard in the cabin of the vehicle. Unfortunately, the whining sound is a clear indicator that the rear differential assembly is damaged irreversibly. The lack of differential fluid in rear differential carrier assembly can lead to a catastrophic failures. The complete failure of the rear differential assembly would result in internal gears seizing up and locking of the rear wheels. Likewise, there is no prior indicators of when the rear wheels will seize up. On highways speeds, this problem can create dangerous and even life threating conditions to the occupants of the vehicle as well as the other motorists sharing the road.

2015 Cadillac Cts luxury, 81k miles, rear differential has metal chunks in its fluid and makes load roaring sound. Dealership mecahnics said that the differential dailing that early is a known issue, and if it had progressed rhe differential would have seized up and the rear tires would have locked up. No parts available anywhere for differential replacement or overhaul.

The recall that was done on the 2014-2015 Cts-v should have been a recall on all models of Cts because all of the models in the timeframe received the dsame flawed rear differential. My 2015 Cts luxury has only 80k miles on it and the differential has chunks of metal in its oil. It is the exactaame differential as is in the Cts-v. At any time my rear end will lock up once the dofferential fully eats itself. It is an extreme saftey hazard for anyone driving any type of Cts from 2014-2015.

The rear differential failing at very low mileage on the 2014 and others models and years using the same part is a very common issue. The Ctsv model was recalled and not the Cts models. Even though it’s the same part but just one single different number in the part number. This is very offsetting being that it’s a costly part and requires costly replacement. It almost always can never be repaired but only replaced. Cadillac has recognized that it’s an issue but only recalled the Cts vsport models. Even though it’s the same exact part. My car isn’t able the be driven due to this due to high demand of the part making it very difficult to find. The part number is 84110751.

I started to notice pulsation upon braking and replaced my pads and rotors, at the same time switching from winter wheels to summer wheels. The pulsation continued, and then I noticed a rumbling sound from the rear end that has grown increasingly loud over the past three days, and now it is accompanied by wobbling upon braking at speed. An independent shop today diagnosed it as a rapidly failing rear differential. The car has 70,000 miles and no accidents. As I understand it, the Cts-v version of the same vehicle has a recall for failing differentials that are the very same part that's used in these non-v models. The web is full of complaints from other owners of my model who are experiencing this same issue. It is a catastrophic failure part that could cause the rear end of the car to lock up at speed. Please address ASAP, thank you!.

Under previous gm safety recall bulletin 14233, loss of grease from the center constant velocity (cv) joint over time results in vibrations of the propeller shaft that are transferred to the roll over sensor located on the floor above it. The condition was repaired under this recall in 2014, three years after the vehicle was manufactured. It is now 2022, and the same issue has happened again. Now, gm claims that there are no open recalls on the vehicle, yet the manufacturer defect remains and the issue has resurfaced. Being a safety recall, the repair should be covered by gm as stated in the bulletin (14233) regardless if the repair has been completed in the past, as the defect remains a safety issue. The vehicle in reference has 5 bolts sheared and the last remaining bolt fixing the center cv joint to the transmission was about to fall out, caused by the vibration of the cv joint that lost its grease.

The component that failed was the rear differential. I had to pull over on a grassy area on the merrit parkway which put my safety at risk. The component has been inspected by the dealer. No warning lamps appeared. I heard a whining sound and a grinding noise.

The component that failed on my vehicle is the rear differential. My safety was put at risk by my vehicle hesitating on the highway where I lost speed and was almost rear ended. At that point I had to pull over onto a shoulder with grass to wait on the side of the highway for a tow. My vehicle has been with the dealer for the past 2 months. No warning lights or signals.

Load roaring in back of car sounds like going snap in half. Upon checking the rear differential loud noise.

2014 Cadillac Cts rear differential with 55,000 miles started to make a wobbling noise going past 10 mph. Went to third party mechanic and was shown metal shavings coming from rear end.

I have been told my car needs a front and rear differential. I have heard a low rumbling in the car for some time which I have now been told that sound was the differential breaking down. My car has been at dealership for 2 months now.

Torque converter shudders and jerks abruptly. There’s trouble slowing down at times and it has a difficult time shifting up or shifting down I gears.

The contact owns a 2014 Cadillac Cts. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle and depressing the accelerator pedal, a metal noise was heard. The contact stated that no warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the rear brakes were replaced however, the contact was informed that the failure was the rear differential axle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and advised the contact to have the failure diagnosed at a dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer nor was a case opened. The contact was referencing the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 20v038000 (power train). The manufacturer informed the contact that only the sports version was included in the recall due to the plant of manufacture. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000.

Rear differential lock up at high speed. Loss of control. Apparently a common problem with Cadillac rear differentials. Most occur under 50,000 miles. Mine had 54,000 miles. Seals fail and differential fluid drains out. Some people have had 3 replacements under warrantee. Cannot find and replacements as they are "back ordered" according to dealerships.

Transmission cooler line fittings have dissimilar metals causing the threads inside the radiator transcooler to strip and dump coolant into transmission lines and on road along with what was the transmission fluid as well as steam rolling out blocking vision through my windshield going uphill on a dangerously busy road crossing. This is a well known manufacturing defect that has yet to be handled. This could have gotten me and my 3 year old son seriously hurt by sudden loss of power and slick roadways not being able to avoid or brake properly or even steer away from on coming collision. The dissimilar metals are aluminum nut with a mild steel washer backed by a stainless steel washer before it contacts the radiator. This car has 101k miles and has been babied it's entire life. And when I see the 4 brake lines are about to rust out after all the repairs that have already been done. This is just poor quality material and craftsmanship. Easily could have been avoided by simply using a different metal than mild steel between dissimilar metals.

During a service appointment, on my 2014 Cadillac Cts, the dealership pointed out that both axle seals on the differential appears to be leaking. On a subsequent inspection conducted on 8/24/2021, by the dealership, it was confirmed that both axle seals were leaking. At the time of the inspection the vehicle had 120,873 miles showing on the odometer. These two reports were the initial indication that the axle seal were leaking. The dealership has maintained the vehicle since I purchased it from them. I checked to see was if there was a service bulletin on this issue, but there was none. However, there was a service bulletin (bulletin no. Pip5075a) concerning "rear axle leak from the vent" on the differential on the 2011-2013 Cadillac Cts and Cts-v. I contend that gm over compensated for the vent leak and now the vent on the differential of the 2014 Cadillac Cts does not release the built up air pressure which is causing the seals to leak. It is only a matter of time when the differential will lock up due to lack of lubricant and cause a serious accident. I contacted gm on this issue, but they do not want to admit there is a problem. However, if you look up complaints on the internet, there are many many people with this issue on Cadillac's Cts and ats. There needs to be at a minimum a service bulletin issued. I would recommend a recall to correct this problem.

On 8/24/2021 approx 9:45am I returned home from the market as I was parking my vehicle (backing into a parking space) ishift my vehicle control to the rear position and it lock up it was stuck and would not release I was shocked and upset because the front of my vehicle was still in the way of passing vehicle so I tuned my front wheels in as much as I could but that was all I could do I had to keep my foot on the breaks so that my vehicle would not roll back and slam into the truck behind me , I call the dealership fc kerbeck 100 route 73 north palmyra n. J I told them what happened and that I was upset and did not know what to do I still had my foot on the breaks because I did'nt know if it was safe to turn off my vehicle or what after I was disconnected I called back and I was informed on how to safley shut down my vehicle . My vehicle had to be towed to the dealership I found a recall on the issue from general motors June 2014 saying that the driver may not be able to shift the transmission in and out of gear due to the shift cable not begin secured and that it could slip out of the brackets and the driver will not be able to stop the vehicle from rolling resulting in a ccident when I mention this to the dealership they claim that they never had any recalls on thid saftey issue I purchase my vehicle in 2017 so they were well aware that this could be a saftey issue some where down the line but they failed to make sure that the consumer was aware of this issue that they could have better control if something like this should happen I was so up set and shock that this had happen my gears were lock down I could not at that time move my vehicle. My is this information not made available to the consumer when they buy these cars then a few years later when it does ealership blows you off and act as if you are crazy this is a saftey issue that could cause your life.

I brought my car to my trusted local mechanic, and he informed me that the noise I was hearing from the rear of my car was the differential. He also informed me that it was dangerous because it could lock up, causing my car to go into a skid and lose control. I did some due diligence on the internet and discovered it’s a common problem, and although it has been recalled on the sub model of the v sport, the standard Cts has not been recalled.

A known issue. “clutch slow to fill” is a defect of the 8 speed transmission that causes the vehicle to violently buck and surge at low speeds and is dangerous as it makes it unreliable when driving at low speeds since it can randomly lunge forward dangerously. Dealership replaced transmission valve body under warranty and flushed transmission twice but problem remains. Dealership claims it can be fixed with an “update” but tried to charge over $300 for the “update” when it is a defect that should have been fixed under warranty for free or have a recall.

The rear differential started making a loud whining noise around 53,000 miles. It then turned into a grinding noise. I had it checked by a mechanic and he confirmed it was rear differential that needed replacing. He recommended not driving the vehicle since the differential could completely fail and cause an accident. Not having any mechanical experience, the noise was the only indication of a problem. No warning lights or sensor faults.

Rear differential failure at low mileage.

When I accelerated the transmission felt like it got stuck and continued to rev when I attempted to accelerate and felt like I was not moving. Rpm continued to go up but no power. Other times a vig bump is felt when I take foot off gas for a koment and when I place it back on to accelerate the big bump is felt. Have taken it to Cadillac sevice twice and both times transmission was reprogrammed but it did not dix the problem.

The seller lied about everything! the first question I asked was if the car was in an accident. He bragged about being a mechanic, and doing all the work on the car, so everything in the car is in, "tip top shape. " he replied, "no, never!" he did not allow us to ride the car on the interstate before the purchase, claiming it was illegal. 10 mins after leaving the car lot, the car cuts off and is unable to crank back up. The seller meets us and claims it the battery. A "new" battery was placed in the vehicle, but the problem persists. My fianc�, who is not a mechanic, told him more than once, that the problem was not the battery, but the alternator. He got the car to crank. As we are riding down the interstate, the car cuts off, and we are left aimlessly rolling and are unable to control the wheel. Plus, the electricity in the car is off so we can't even turn on our hazard lights to caution the other cars on the road. After speaking to the seller, once again, he tells us there is nothing he can do about it and will not cancel the deal. We've only had the car for 4-5 hours. After speaking to several mechanics, they quickly confirm that the alternator is the problem and anybody that claims to be a mechanic can see the problem immediately. They also inform us the car has been wrecked and should have not been resold for safety measures. Driving this vehicle almost cost us our lives.

I was almost involved in an accident on the highway last night, either the transmission or the real axles broke as I was driving 70 mph. Never informed of any recall and I want answers, as it could have been a horrible accident. The car was towed to my home last night. This occurred in battle creek michigan on m66 south.
