Power Steering Pump Problems of Cadillac CTS

My steering rack and pump went at only 26,000 miles. If I was driving this car on the road at the time it went I would have had an awful accident. You could not steer the vehicle at all. It cost me 2275 for the part and 6 hours labor @750. 00. I think with only 26000miles this should have not happend.

Steering has become hard to turn been in shop 6 weeks replaced rack and penion and power steering pump now will not start.

While trying to park, the steering wheel becomes stiff. I took it to the dealer to correct problem and it cost me $2,558. 35 to replace steering pump and to get a wheel alignment. A week later I had to take the car back to the dealer for noises after applying the breaks and they had to replace both control arms and stabilizer links to correct problem. That job cost me $1,362. 93. In April 2013, my front passenger door handle didn't open from the outside. The dealer had to replace the inside door handle housing split, trim pad and handle housing. This job cost me $1,376. 99. Not sure why I'm having all of these problems when I get all the required maintenance and all jobs are done at a gm Cadillac dealership.

I was driving home from work when this first happened. All of a sudden a loud screeching noise and the brakes would not stop in time. I had to pump the brakes to work. I took my car to Cadillac in arizona and they had it for 2 days and could not find an issue. I drove home that day with it and sure enough it did it while I was home. It had now began to jerk me to the right and left when I press on the brakes, scaring me thinking I am going to hit the car next to me. I took it to midas this time and they noticed a problem and said maybe its a wheel barring. They replaced issue duplicated itself shortly after. Since I did not have a second car or pay for a rental I had to take my car home to go back to work the next day. This problem is a safety hazard and I have even been pulled over because the cop asked why I was swerving while driving. I told the office its the code that comes up on my screen and it makes my car halt while driving and I can not control it. He stated that its a very serious issue and if another officer was on duty they might impound my car due to a safety hazard but he would give me a chance to take it home to go to the shop. I am almost close to trading in my vehicle and buying a new one, but not a Cts. If Cadillac can't solve this, the creator, who can? I am scared I'm going to veer off the freeway or hit a car on the way to work. I drive an hour to and from work everyday and my safety is the utmost concern to me and my family.

Hello, I have heard reports of the gm recall for power steering in some vehicles. I just wanted to let you guys know you may want to check out Cadillac's as well. I have a 04 Cts that just recently started doing the exact same thing a few weeks ago. At low speeds the car is very hard to turn and when you turn the steering wheel right or left there is a whine sound. Looks like the power assist pump has gone out.
