Steering Problems of Cadillac CTS - part 1

All of a sudden when I started my car, the lights flickered constantly, the power steering failed, and it blew my starter and fairly new battery. I was so scared; I thought it was going to catch on fire because it smelled burnt. And I was on [xxx] in hubbard ohio, and I was trying to get to [xxx] and safety to which I did. Thank goodness for aaa. I was told this happened because of a plug in wiring to heat or warm the washer fluid. It is available for inspection. My safety was impacted because, I had no power steering, flickering lights and smell of burnt stuff. My problem was fixed by an independent shop. My vehicle was not inspected by a gm dealer or my insurance. Was inspected by an independent shop that it was towed to. Warnings prior to incident: I would turn the ignition and nothing. But that would only happen several weeks apart. I thought maybe the starter was going, but it was odd because it was so many weeks far apart that it would happen. It might have been a total of 4 times since October of 2024. During the incident, power steering warning came on, charging system came on and the car sounded like it was barely running. My dream car…2017 Cadillac Cts 3. 6l prem. Lux. I’ve noticed a lot of complaints with very low miles under 30,000 service suspension system, car has new perelli tires 19” and the driver front tire went flat. What’s going on, I don’t want the dealer to take advantage of me. I can’t understand why this vehicle would be giving me problems so soon purchased from calstar mercedes dealer on [xxx] of 2023. The contact stated that occasionally while driving at various slow speeds, the message "driver assist unavailable" and the steering wheel was abnormally firm, requiring excess effort to drive the vehicle until the power steering functionality returned. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where the vehicle was diagnosed; however, the contact was advised that there was no failure found with the vehicle, and the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 25v175000 (steering); as a possible cause for the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000.

The contact owns a 2019 Cadillac Cts. The contact stated that the trim on the steering wheel had started to peel off. Due to the failure, the edges of the steering wheel where the trim was located had started peeling off and were sharp, causing serious concerns while driving the vehicle. The local dealer was notified of the failure, and the contact was scheduled for an appointment; however, the vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.

A combination of the lower control arm alignment adjustment bolt, it is just a slot and standard bolt. The alignment becomes loose over time and begins to work side to side in the slot, so retightening the bolt is the only solution to keep it from moving. The main issue is the subframe being made from aluminum and the machined slots for the lower arms, the "ears" for the lower arms are not machined or reenforced correctly which lead to severe fatigue cracks in the machined radius of the subframe. These cracks will cause the lower control arm to break free of the mounts and causing the front suspension to shift to the left or right and causing a crash. All it will take to break them off is a large enough bump and this will kill or injure someone.

I just recently purchased my Cadillac. And the rear end is going out! I literally cannot even drive it anywhere because it is about to lock up completely. It will barely go and definitely doesn't want or like to go uphill. I could hardly go 20 miles per hour when I parked it the other night. There has not been an incident yet but if I hadn't parked it, it could've locked up completely when I was going down the highway is what my mechanic friend told me. It was not bad until just the day before it got to this point. It was making a little bit of a humming noise which I thought was just a wheel bearing the other night because that's exactly what it sounded like. But, the night I parked it it had started making like a loud thumping noise when I would try to accelerate. The more I would accelerate the louder the noise and it just didn't want to go. So, I parked it and that's where it's been since. So, I got online to look and see if there were any recalls for this issue. I find that there is a recall for the 2014 Cts-v for the rear end. I think it's not only the Cts-v models I think it's the regular Cts's as well. Can you check into this for me because I literally just bought this car and haven't even gotten my license plate yet and now I can't even do that or go anywhere for that matter. I am a business owner and I rely on my vehicle and I can't even get to work to open my store right now,. We purchased the car in 2015. The Cadillac service center in beverly hills confirmed that they have records showing the car was inspected, and the recalled piece replaced in 2006. The dealer at that time was named martin Cadillac. The night of [xxx], my son was driving the Cts on the freeway at about 50 mph, when the front left tire and wheel suddenly twisted out of place and rendered the car undrivable. Fortunately, he was not injured or worse, but he was stranded in the middle of a busy freeway for more than 30 minutes until aaa arrived. The car was then towed to our home and towed to our mechanic the following day. The repair needed and done was to replace the left front control arm, precisely the area noted in the recall notice. Also, it was necessary to repair the undercarriage that was damaged by the dislocated wheel and tire. The left front fender was also damaged by the action of the detached tire and wheel. The total repair cost we paid was $793. 13 for the control arm and undercarriage. We are not currently driving the car, as we are concerned that the car is still unsafe. Unknown I have been driving my car for 2 years now. For about the last year the steering in has been handling horrible and I have checked all parts every think is in good condition. I have read online it's a common problem and I see it as a safety concern especially since it's recalled on the same vehicle different VIN. So when driving down the highway it's hard to stay centered and the car pulls different directions and the steering gets stiff to where it feels locked up. It is electrical power steering and I have experience from a prior experience with a 2009 pontiac g6. All these parts should of been recalled and not just a handful.

The primary issue with the vehicle is the failure of the front transmission pump seal (part #24225543) and the torque converter seal ( part #242337534 ) which caused a significant transmission fluid leak. The original repair of the torque converter seal was done in Jan 2024 by andrews Cadillac in mt juliet TN. Failure to properly repair the torque converter seal led to internal damage within the transmission, resulting in the need for a full transmission replacement. The front pump seal was not replaced as recommended by the service repair manual at the time of the torque converter seal replacement. The faulty component is available for inspection upon request. The safety of myself and others was put at risk due to the vehicle's hesitation to accelerate after stopping, a direct consequence of the low transmission fluid. This hesitation causes a sudden loss of power while driving, increasing the likelihood of an accident. There is a delay and then a hard shift when off , a significant bump when shifting from first to second gear and when I stop it feels like I've been rear ended by another car. The issue has been confirmed by multiple service centers, including parker Cadillac, orr Cadillac, and christian brothers automotive, all of which identified the transmission pump seal as the source of the leak and the resulting damage to the transmission. Additionally, christian brothers automotive found that the torque converter seal was also leaking, further contributing to the vehicle's transmission problems. Despite efforts to have gm engineers inspect the vehicle at orr Cadillac, they declined. However, christian brothers automotive has provided a thorough inspection and diagnostic of the . There were no warning lamps or error codes indicating the issue, as it was a mechanical failure rather than an electronic one. The symptoms became apparent when the vehicle began hesitating after coming to a stop, and a transmission fluid leak was discovered during the inspection?.

I took my car 1200 moss st. , bingo alignment, and two weeks after my alignment my steering wheel shipped and I bought it over to the shop and told them that they did not talk to the school down on my control arms and the lady told me to get off of her premises and get out and I think that’s not right she did not on her warranty and I called the police to get an incident report and she just was belligerent and pull guns on me and do all kind of crazy stuff. I would like to have someone investigate her please.

Severe and sudden malfunction of the abs/stabilitrak system at 45mph causing loss of directional control of the vehicle. Failure caused by disintegration/cracking of abs/hub reluctor rings, feeding incorrect wheel speeds to stability system. This failure caused a total loss of power, vehicle veering right despite full left steering input, abs activation continuously (increasing stopping distance). Vehicle exited road due to loss of control.

At the moment, the vehicle is releasing a strong order smells like burning oil or gasoline. It’s coming from the rear of the vehicle. You can smell it immediately when you step out and in the car. The rear is making a loud cranking noise and starting to shake. It appears based on the information that it’s a huge possibility it’s my rear differential going out. It posses a threat due to the anticipation of the brakes locking and causing a serious accident to my family or other on the road. Ive taken very good care if the vehicle and done all the required maintenance on the vehicle. Went though gm motors repair shops.

A black bolt in my steering column fell out onto my floormat and a second bolt was very loose, getting ready to fall out. The steering column just needs to be adjusted - recalibrated. No parts needed, very little time. Foundation Cadillac, denver colorado is charging me for diagnostics for bolts. Having my steering column fall would have been a huge safety issue. I need some help getting foundation to adjust the steering column at no cost to me. My Cadillac is out of warranty.

I was driving down the road going bout 29 miles per hour when I heard a big boom. It sounded nd felt like I had hit something . So I slowed down and pulled over to the side of the road put the car in park looked underneath nothing was there . I then preceeded to my at. Which thank god was only another block away . I started going only going maybe 5 miles per hour at this point because it sounds like I'm dragging like metals on the ground . When I got to my apt. I went to park the car when I went to put it into park it would not go when I went to reverse it would nit go it still went into drive and thts it and even getting it into driveyou really had to push it and it felt like the tires were going to wobble off , I mean bye this time it just felt like the car was gonna fall apart shaking abd wobbling all over because I kept trying g to go from drive to neutral to get it to go into park but it didn't budge I had to leave it in neutral and put on the emergency break and shut the car off leaving my key I side cause it ws stuck due to the car not going into park. When I came out of my apt. I ws just frazzled I didn't understand wht ws going on she hd been running beautifully. But I did remember when I first test drove her I had told the sales man she had felt like I ws pulling something she ws kinda hesitant to excelerate . He assured me she's had a 5 star inspection and the whole cars under warranty nd he works on Cadillacs himself . Yada yada yada. I had called. Friend to come help me tow her home . He tried to get her to manually go into drive but it still wouldn't budge he thought maybe the shift link u til we got her home it was the drive shaft it had sheered off all the bolt one half was on the one part the other part of the bolt were broke off where it connected to the tyranny. He said you can't replace this with out trying to back our the bolts but there metric bolts and would be hard to find . And I would just be better off with a new driveshaft.

During normal driving, my service stibilatrak light comes on. While the message is on, the tcs kicks in and it grabs the wheel and stops the car. I've been reared ended once and two barely missed collisions. When the tcs activates, it stops the car completely and the only way to drive the car is to turn it off for a few second and then restart it. That resets the computer and turn the message light off. The tcs or abs does not come on in the dash, just the stilibatrak message in the message center. Once it's turned off, it does not come on until the next time the tcs activates. I've had several diagnostic tests to check the problem or get a code but there is no code. I've been told that the car is clear of codes. The dealer cannot find a code or the problem. I've spent several hundred dollars on trying to locate the problem. The car, as is, is a death trap. I can't drive it because I don't know when the traction will kick on. I've taken good care of my car, nice bodywork and low milage but it's not safe to drive and no one knows how to fix it, including the dealer. At $200 an hour to try to find the problem is unforeseeable financially on my pension. One option is to junk the car for $200. I can't donate or sale it because it will not pass MD inspection. I can't trade it; I can't afford another car note. I've had this issue for almost a year. This happens every time I drive it, so I had to buy another car which I was not ready to buy. No major damage to report.

I was driving and it started rattling and getting very bumpy. I exited the freeway and came to a stop. The vehicle would no longer move. I had it towed to my mechanic. The right front axle broke. He replaced it and drove it around the block for a test drive. It was very loud and turning tight when the left axle broke. It has been diagnosed with a bad differential. Everyone I have spoke with at multiple Cadillac dealerships, including someone at a dealership over 30 years, have said they never seen this type of problem and especially on such a newer vehicle with only 84,000 miles. It was a very dangerous situation and if it never happens why did it happen to mine? I’m thinking something is faulty in the differential etc.

When driving my car will shut off by its self and it has done this the whole time I have had the car. . . When it shuts off the car gets reads stuck in park because the key gets stuck in ignition. . . When nights are on and I turn right my height lights come on. . . And my passenger air bag light came on and won't go off.

The contact stated that while driving entering the freeway at 40 mph, the steering wheel seized, the contact was unable to turned the wheel, as a result, the contact crashed into the freeway entrance wall ramp. The contact his wife and daughter sustained neck and back injuries that required medical attention. The contact mentioned, his daughter a medical surgeon took care of them. The contact mentioned that he was not aware of any warning lights illuminated because the failure happening fast. A police report was filed. The contact stated that the dealer did not disclosed the diagnostic result but had send the diagnostic result to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided a case number. The failure mileage was 130,000. Aw.

While accelerating from a stop, my vehicle loses all power temporarily. Throttle modulation does not increase rpm. At times the vehicle will jerk forward and back as if power is being put down then stopped abruptly. One time I had this happen, my lights, gauges, power steering, and engine power all went away. It fixed itself after about 15 minutes of trying to figure out what was happening. Very dangerous and scary experience when this happens on the road.

Everything was really grate no problems. My brakes sounds like there is lots of air coming from somewhere. My key ignition sometimes want turn over or easy to come out. Than the car started running hot. I've had it looked at few times and can't seem to fix the problem. I've even brought a new coolant box or another name for it. . My car was brought in for vibration at alderman Cadillac in meriden I took it in and come to find out, it was the power steering and a motor mount. The dealer asked me if I wanted to take the car after it was fixed although he told me that it wouldn't be safe to drive. I received the vehicle 3 days later and the problem was still there. My steering wheel was also loose and the alignment was off. I took it back to the dealer withing 20 hours to tell them that it was not fixed and that the car all of a sudden drives totally different and not in a good way. The manager of the service department told me that they can't fix the car because it's too much work. I did not feel safe driving my vehicle which I told the dealer about 5 times. That did not matter to them at all. The dealer argued me down and I told them that I will not drive my vehicle in the position it was in. I will continue to go as far as I need to do get this unsafe situation handled. I do not appreciate this. I trusted in Cadillac and I will never go back there again.

While driving on a windy mountain road at approx 45 mph, going into a sharp left hand turn, the steering wheel would not turn any further. It felt as though the steering had gone out completely. This caused me to travel straight into an embankment and launch into the woods. No injuries. Air bags did not deploy. Radiator was bent into a u shape. No idea why none of the airbags didn't deploy.

I cannot get my vehicle repaired in the aloted time due to parts not being on hand according to the dealership.

The rear differential locked while driving at 45mph on a straight, four lane road. It made a loud thump and felt as if the brakes were slammed on. The car pull hard left and the rear tires were smoking. Managed to get the car back to the right and stopped after hitting the curb. Fortunately no other vehicles were involved. The elsd is on backorder and will not be available for 90 days.

The vehicle is equipped with a very weak rear differential that was used in the lesser horsepower v6 and when taking off hard the car begins to wheel hop and destroys the rear end the vehicle was in motion on a city street this has occurred twice in less then a year and a half.

Driving at 10pm south on highway going 65mph on left shoulder 20min in and 10 min to get to my destination (home) on middlel lane n an 18 wheeler tried to merge to left (gusssing he did not see car) so to avoid being swiped by semi said ed steering will to left off to exit median close to cement baracade semi passed got back on road 5 minutes in side left & right also front and back air bags deployed lost control off vehicle and spinned out of freeway & steering wheel locked unable to start vehicle car facing south now and off highway realized the only thing hit was a front grill where Cadillac sign next to it grill was cracked couple of scuffs but no other body damages and front airbags dint deploy so questioning if possible undetected malfunctions progressive insurance agent lakiesha woodson no police report because I dint get hit or hit anything or anybody have a repair invoice - stating an 18k estimate & considered totaled due to airbags and tow service of $700 that neither delearship or insurance want to be responsible for delearship states that since insurance involved cannot have car towed to gm/Cadillac service center and insurance states I'm at fault because I'm the one that swerved from semi but have stated I avoided to be hit or pushed off road and it was way after that is when airbags just deployed for nothing or due to it being all electric is just too sensitive and late in reacting either way that's what caused me loosing control of vehicle was not expecting the deployment. . . Had I otherwise hit or been hit I would asume the front airbags would have deployed as well and there would be more body damage other than just airbags and a fallen off front fender just feel like this should be investigated because even if it does not make sense it is what happened just no one wants to accept the responsibility deductible $500.

Fitzgerald Chevrolet (114 baughmans lane, frederick, MD 21702) confirmed that parts were not available to perform the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Power steering will intermittently fail at all speeds causing the car to become very hard to steer at lower speeds and difficult to control at higher speeds. Warning is displayed in the dic that reads "service power steering" no visible cause can be found. Fluid levels are in spec. Tire pressure is in spec. When failure occurs at low speed, the steering becomes very stiff. When failure occurs at higher speed, steering becomes stiff effecting control.

The rear end differential broke while the car was in motion on the highway. Which made driving the car very unsafe. I pulled over and I got the part repaired by the Cadillac dealership. I have had an on going problem with the front seat heater. When weather is cooler and I activate the seat heater I experienced the seat getting excessively hot and I nearly burn myself. I had to turn off the heater seat and cover the seat so I dont get hurt. This happened while I was driving the vehicle causing me to pull over immediately during to how hot the seat had got. Last but not least, the shifter selector cable detached as I was operating the vehicle on the street (vehicle was in motion) I was driving and pulled up park and notice the shifter knob was moving but the indicator was stuck in the wrong selection. I had to put on emergency break and order a tow to the nearest dealership because the car was unsafe to drive and I didnt know what gear the carbwas in or could I change gears. The manufacturer had recalls for these items on similar vehicles but denied to help me because the recalls are VIN specific which I did not know and my VIN didn't qualify. I am left with a huge car repair bill for defected parts sold when I brought the car.
