Steering Problems of Cadillac CTS - part 2

Steering locks up at idle and low speeds. Takes all my strength to overcome this situation almost caused an accident. Happens in park lots, city and superhighway. Since December of 2018. I called gm and Cadillac and they refused to tell me the replacement part number for power steering fluid listed in the owners manual.

While driving at a steady speed and for no apparent reason, the stability system engaged, I was unable to control vehicle, could not engage brakes, vehicle began losing power & stalled in freeway traffic. Lastly, the brakes vibrate and the car's valve cover gaskets are made of plastic which may leak & start a fire.

Service power steering message comes up on drivers info system and steering gets very hard. Last time it happened I was pulling into a parking space, the steering got very tight and the warning chime went off. I had to hit the brakes or risk hitting a parked car. I took the car to my mechanic who scanned the system and reset it. 2 days later it did the same thing again as I was going around a corner at about 20 mph. I am taking the car to the dealer but when I do take the car in, I'm told that I need to trade it.

Power steering sluggish and monitoring message came on on turns around 20 mph & above. Took to dealer and they are needing to replace the whole system. Is this a known , but not communicated issue.

My steering wheel locks up at low speeds. I can turn right the steering wheel feel like it is locked up. Then I would apply the brakes an turn the opposite direction it will release the steering wheel. Today both side at locking up. I will take it to moore Cadillac on Monday Jan. 30th, 2017. I have had my mechanic already looked at it. He stated it is a safety issue. Steering wheel became inoperable while vehicle in motion, vehicle shut down multiple times while driving causing all loss of power to vehicle, accelerator stuck and fuel shut off when going hard on brake did not work requiring snit into neutral, many other issues. Taken to dealer for repair many times in service over 40+ days since November 2016. Not safe to operate. Cue screen replaced muriople times as well because of electrical issues and even air conditioning switching to heat, windows randomly rolling down while vehicle is parked in a parking lot, speedometer goes off and then comes back on while driving. Too many issues to name, gm/Cadillac has refused a proper repurchase of the vehicle and is stating they want a lawsuit brought against them in order to give a fair settlement as they are wanting me to pay larger than normal depreciation on a non-working vehicle in a repurchase agreement. These issues are life threatening and they are not wanting to note the vehicle is a lemon and actually sell it to another customer. They are now advising (gm executive office) the dealer to put that they are "unable to duplicate customer concern" on all further service visits should I return however I am not driving the vehicle because of safety concerns. This is not solving life threatening problems but actually covering them up. Come to find out they even serviced the vehicle prior to my ownership of purchasing the vehicle as new that they preformed service on some of the same electrical problems which I was having.

When driving on the highway over normal bumps (bridge seams, r. R tracks, highway concrete expansion joints) the car performs an uncommanded turn to the right, the steering wheel is quickly turned to the left by driver, followed by the steering wheel pointing (up to) approx. 30-45 degrees to the left while the vehicle goes straight. Sometimes "stabilitrak off" message shows on the dash then the stabilitrak light comes on, sometimes no dash warnings come on at all. Sometimes the amount of steering wheel misalignment is a little, then a little more, and can be smaller amounts depending on the bumps. If the vehicle is shutdown, the driver's door is opened and closed, and the vehicle is restarted, everything is back to normal and the steering wheel is straight again. This is not once in a while, it's repetitive and happens daily. Dealer has ordered a steering wheel position sensor to fix this and states that what is happening is impossible.

Takata recall ws driving the car - I was at a complete stop while attempting to turn in parking lot - then sounded like a pop - the bottom ball joint fell completely out due to screw falling off bottom called several places for part and several wouldn't even give me a quote due to a recall then I call gm dealership in columbia mo and they state VIN # are off buy 270 I feel like it should be covered due to the fact that it done exactly the same thing other Cts.

The contact owned a 2007 Cadillac Cts. While attempting to make a turn at approximately 15 mph, the vehicle independently veered to the right and unintentionally accelerated without warning. In addition, the vehicle experienced a loss of steering and the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to respond. As a result, the contact crashed into a tree. A police report was filed. The contact sustained a neck injury and pain to the right knee and foot that required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to a salvage yard where it was deemed destroyed. When turning the steering wheel in either direction, left or right, of the vehicle, there is a loud metal-on-metal noise. The vehicle has been taken twice to mcguire Cadillac where I was told that there was "no fix at this time. " I have contacted Cadillac headquarters numerous times and, unfortunately, no assistance has been given. On December 30, 2015, while driving 60 mph on the right lane of a highway, I suddenly lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle veered across to the left across three lanes on the highway. The vehicle did a 360 coming to rest facing oncoming traffic where I had no control of the brake or gas pedals in the vehicle. After coming to a halt, I was then able to gain control of the vehicle. It was a very scary situation.

Turned car on after parking at a lot. Reversed to exit and then suddenly, a warning light came on stating "power steering. Drive carefully". Power steering went off entirely. It was extremely hard to move the steering wheel. Could barely get car back into parking spot. Turned engine off twice but the steering did not correct self. After engine was off for 10minutes waiting for tow truck, the power steering came back on.

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Cadillac Cts. The contact received a recall notification letter and wanted to know if the vehicle was included in the recall. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and pulsated while traveling to the floorboard. The steering sensor illuminated upon reversing. In addition, the stabilatrack sensor illuminated when making a left turn. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be repaired. The brakes were replaced along with abs sensors and the stabilatrack. Futhermore, there was premature tire wear. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000. Ad.

Driving to work went to stop and vehicle pull to the side and would not stop normal. I drove the vehicle to the dealer and the reported right rear hub not sensing speed signal and needed to replace and not covered under my warranty. I see gm and Cadillac has had a lot of problems with this wheel hud and have recalled on other model years. These are $600. 00 per wheel to replace and think that they should last longer than 39,000 miles. Would not want to have been driving at highway speeds when this fails. I contacted Cadillac and they would not repair without charge.

On 21 Feb. While driving approximately 75 mph, a warning light came on indicating "service stability track control, engine power will be reduced. I suddenly lost power and luckily, the 18 wheeler that was behind me swerved to other lane to avoid rear end collision. I immediately put on my hazard indicator and was able to coast to the median. Luckily, I was not killed!. On searching, I have found this to be a common complaint that the manufacturer is well aware of but refuses to correct the issue. . . There are numerous complaints all over the internet regarding near death experiences because of this similar issue. What is it going to take, a death?.

Driving down a highway w/ brand new sumitomo tires for rear purchased on 1/10/15, the rear right tire blew causing me to loose control sending me into the guardrail then spun out into the highway landing horizontal across all lanes of traffic with my trunk end in the hov lane. I was then struct by a box truck, spinning me back around and totaling the vehicle. The sidewalls to the tire we still attached to the rim and the tread face had detached.

At 27k miles our 2013 Cts premium model developed a unique natural characteristic, the front wheels bind when turning. This natural characteristic is labeled as (stick/ slip) when making a right hand turn out onto a busy road I was almost broadsided by an oncoming dump truck and car. I pulled out onto the road and the car began to (stick and slip) hindering its forward movement. Had the left lane not been open for the oncoming traffic to swerve around me, I probably would not be writing this. The certified service tech at the dealership said the front wheels were binding. Gm engineers said,” it is the natural characteristics of the car. The car is performing to gm standards. I was handed a NHTSA id #10043010 bulletin which specifically stated which cars and what suspension and tires could experience this. It also states this stick and slip condition would be noticed when the car steering is at full lock. No one makes a turn onto a road at full lock. My suspension is a fe5 with goodyear eagle rs tires . This suspension and tire combo is not part of this bulletin. If this is the natural characteristics of the car then why did it appear around 27k?? I believe this condition is very dangerous in spite of what gm claims. We are afraid to drive the car but have no choice because we can't afford to take a loss and purchase another model.

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Cadillac Cts. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v39000 (steering) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was mad aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Sw.

Was entering the on ramp on to a freeway and just tapped the brake and noticed and heard the left front tire grind and the steering wheel pulled to the left real hard. I was going into a blind under pass and thought that if it seized up around the blind corner I would surely be in an accident. I first thought that a stone chip was in between the brake and rotor. The car was towed away to a aaa location about 3 miles away. The service station then took it out around the block and was not able to duplicate. The put the car up and the lift and could not see anything that was wrong. Then I took them out around the block real slow and the left front brakes would grind away. They tested it and could not find anything wrong no error codes. They I said could drive the car home from san diego to south orange county not didn't make it a block away before it locked up the left front tire. Was able to limp to marvin k. Brown auto center about a mile away and it was there for two weeks and $500. 00 for a steering sensor replaced. Then it continued to happen and the Cts was taken to tustin Cadillac and they tried to correct the problems after spending 2 days at the dealer and $1700. 00 later the car continues to have not only the left front but now it is the right front. The brakes continue to activate on both the left and right front at anytime at any speed. This last time it felt like the left rear activated, the car got out of control every one around me backed off. I have been driving the car through the locking of left or right front tires and it does say ding and read " check stability system" this car it no longer save to be driven and I was told the last part to fix it is "obsolete" the only thing that might work is to disable the "stability system" by unplugging the fuses on in the trunk on up front.

My 2013 Cts has had a number of prior issues but at this time, I started the car, got into traffic and the vehicle just stopped running. It everything quit. I had no power to steering, brakes, lights. I coasted partway into a parking space I=on the side of the road but did not have enough momentum to fully pull into the space as I was headed up a slight incline. I was stuck with my rear end in traffic and no ability to move. I turned off the car and restarted and it started up. This is not the first issue as about half dozen times the car has refused to engage when I have turned the key. Nothing happens. No battery sound, nothing. I have called onstar several times to get confirmation of issues and they have not been able to detect an issue. I feel my life is at risk as well as others of the public and Cadillac customer service has just told me since there is no proof this happens and they cannot reconstruct it happening they cannot buy back the car. Already the motor fan had to be replaced, it has rolled back 4-5 feet while in drive it has refused to move when in drive, I put it back in neutral, back to drive and the transmission gave a huge clunk and it drove forward. The vehicle locked me in. I could not pull up the locks, could not open with the clicker, would not open with the window down and pulling on the exterior handle. I had to climb out the passenger side door. The car was giving off a raw gas smell when idling in the am. This may have been fixed as it has not done it lately. They must think I ahve nothing better to do than make up complaints about their product.

I had just exited the highway and waited at the end of the ramp for the traffic signal to change. I was proceeding into the intersection after waiting for light to change. I began to accelerate and another car ran the light and hit my car on passenger side. The responders said I was t-boned. When I got hit the car steering wheel locked up, the car came out of gear, the gear mechanism inside the car came apart, the brakes didn't work. I had no control of the car, it shut down. The only thing that stopped me from hitting the metal guardrail was the car ended up on the curb on left of road in the bushes. The passenger window shattered and windshield on passenger side was damaged. The passenger door was pushed into the car and neither of the airbags deployed. The responder's commented that they were surprised that the airbags didn't deploy as hard as I was hit. The vehicle has been deemed a total loss as the damage is extensive. Previously on a few days have had to jiggle the steering wheel and the keys in ignition to turn so that I could start my car. I had previously checked the gm site and entered my VIN because I had times when the ignition switch in my car would not work. There was no recall for my vehicle.

As I approached a street from a store parking lot, I stepped on the brake but the car did not slow. As I saw I was not going to stop, I tried to steer the car to the right to try to avoid crossing into traffic. The steering wheel would not turn. I was going very slowly and saw the face of the driver of the car that hit me. That car hit my car twice. Once in the front left corner and then in left rear corner, as my car spun 90 degrees to the right from the first impact. Someone asked me if my car had turned off. I said I didn’t know because the engine is so quiet. A responding sheriff’s deputy told my husband the driver who hit me said he saw me looking at him and was sure I was going to stop. Later analysis by a Cadillac technician revealed error codes from the front wheel speed sensors. I have been told a wheel speed sensor malfunction can affect breaking.

While driving car jumps out of gear causing rapid deceleration, loss of traction control, stability control, power steering, and brakes. When this happens the instrument cluster looses any indication of gear selection, and car must be shut off and restarted several times to regain controls once parked. Gm/Cadillac is aware of the issue since they have a TSB relating to the fault code, but no recall, even though this is a severe safety concern. It has happened several times at multiple speeds highest of which was about 45-50 so far. Have had into shop 4 times. They have replaced a detent, which did not fix the problem, and internal mode switch twice within approx. 2-3 weeks apart neither time has fixed the issue. Now they are wanting to replace the transmission control module, which I have not had done yet since I am not confident in their ability to correct the issue and the cost is well over a $1000. Currently looking into legal recourse, since I have a vehicle that is pretty much a lemon and not safe to drive my children in. Cadillac has refused to grant a goodwill repair even though the issue was addressed 3 times under the cpo warranty. I have been looking online and have seen several recalls for similar issues but different model years. Not sure how rapid deceleration, loss of power steering and braking does not qualify as a recall necessity.

The failure occurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failures could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. Had my cruise control set at 70 mph for highway driving when I heard a psshhh sound and cruise control broke violently and smelled burnt rubber with smoke coming from back end of car. Pulled over immediately and car smoke from back end and smell only increased. Thought for sure I had a tire blowout. Walked around car and nothing wrong with tires. Had car towed to an auto repair place and am told that the rear differential went out. I have since investigated and found many, many forums about this issue. There are no recalls for this particular model but a certain recall for 2005 models. This situation could have been deadly and I feel both fortunate and upset with gm that such a problem has been so commonly noted but with no "real" resolve. The auto repair place has called around and this is a special part that is not available in my state and a new one costs an estimated $1,200. With so many issues with models 2004-2006 how come there is no recall for 2004 and only a lesser degree of a recall for 2005?.
