3 Engine Cooling System problem of the 1998 Cadillac Deville

Failure Date: 12/23/2008

I have a 1998 Cadillac Deville that I am putting the 3rd engine into the car due to a head gasket problem. My parents have the same car with the same problem. I have read classifieds that citizens who own the same car are forced to give the car away because of this head gasket problem. Anyone who can service this car (including a Cadillac dealership) has admitted that it is a very common problem with this car, and that there is no financially reasonable repair, and replacing the engine is usually the only recommendation. My understanding is that Cadillac recognized this problem, and made a correction to these north star engines in the year 2000. This is obviously a Cadillac blunder that is proven costly, but the cost is only being absorbed by the customer. I am all for being accountable, but having the choices of putting a 3rd engine in the car or junking would be deemed as extreme. Why is Cadillac not recalling this particular year cars engine? I am sure that any research that you conduct will show an abundance of this problem. What protection does the consumer have in this regards?.

4 Engine Cooling System problem of the 1998 Cadillac Deville

Failure Date: 09/10/2006

Attention: ms. Denise mcnair@dot. Gov after reviewing the information service bulletin sent to me I am under more convinced that this engine is defective. I have had engine cooling also high oil consumption every since 57. 000 miles,I mention it to the service advisor and no one ever told about these bulletins no one mention that their was a problem with engine or tell me about the , fwd rtv sealant procedure with current oil distribution plate or the rusted heater pipes that go through the engine block that carries the coolant. Also leaks in the car causing fumes which are toxic. I must have 20- 1 gallon anti- freeze bottles in my garage. I carry at least 6 quarts motor oil with me, the over 75,000 mile oil. I use more oil and anti- freeze than gas. 2006 consumer action handbook states and I quote" sometimes a manufacturer makes a design or production mistake on a motor vehicle. If dealers report a number of complaint about a certain part or vehicle, the manufacturer may allow dealers to repair the problem at no cost to you even if the warranty has expired. A service bulletin notifies the dealer of the problem and how to solve it. Because these free repairs are not publicized, they are called "secret warranties" the national highway traffic safety administration maintains a database of service bulletins filed by manufacturers. I also have all the maintenance records for my 1998 Cadillac and was never imformed of these problems or I would have had them repaired when the car was under warranty. I have doctor's appointments I can't keep because I don't have transportation. The dealer told me I have blown head gaskets which comes from overheating due to the cooling leak and oil leaks. The heater pipes have rusted pouring out engine coolant. Which does not produce heat at this time. I need all the help I can get, I"m on a fixed income and money is scarce. Why don't they run copper pipes they don't rust. It's for the heating system. Please help.

Failure Date: 04/07/2006

Mysterious coolant leak, have had a pressure test on system, passed, head test, passed, and have put in over 9 gallons of antifreeze in car, still no idea where leak is. Talked with Cadillac service at bob more Cadillac, and was told that it is a very common problem with the northstar engines. They use a almond pill to crush up and put in all Cadillac cooling systems. This is required by gm to plug leaks that they know will happen and is a gm part fix, sold by them.

6 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2004 Cadillac Deville

Failure Date: 03/16/2006

2004 Cadillac Deville. As second owner of this car vibration of front end over 60 mph continued. Rotation of tires did not fix the problem. Alignment did. New problem: coolant leak, the source of which could not be located after three trips to shop. Stop leak added on first trip; not effective. 2nd trip to Cadillac dealer, dex added. Seems to do the job. For how long? still feels unsafe for long-distance driving. Ok for in town.

7 Engine Cooling System problem of the 1997 Cadillac Deville

Failure Date: 11/21/2005

On November 21, 2005, I payed working man's auto in austin, TX two thousand dollars as down payment for an "as is" 1997 Cadillac Deville. Upon getting the car I informed the salesman of a "service engine soon" light that was on the dashboard. He informed me that it "just needed to be reset". Due to my lack of knowledge regarding vehicles I took him at his word. When the took the vehicle to get inspected, it wouldnt pass inspection due to this "service engine soon" light. The manager and salesman asked if I would be willing to go there other site in north austin to get the cars computer reset. I agreed, and on my way the car overheated and broke down. The owner came and replaced the coolant in the car and asked "what would you like us to do?" I asked for a loaner vehicle until the car was repaired. He informed me that he couldnt do that due to "insurance reasons. " he told me to go by there location Friday and I did. The mechanic claimed to had fixed the problem even though I asked him if with the light being on still, was it okay, and he said yes. He asked if I could come back the following Monday to have the computer reset. Again I agreed and again on the way home the car overheated and broke down again. They came to get the car to be repaired on November 28 of 2005. With constant phone calls, requests, missed hours of work, stress, not being able to register for school, I hadnt recieved any information from them as to when my car would be repaired. The owner refuses to give me my down payment back, he refuses to place me in another vehicle, and refuses to discuss the matter with me.

10 Engine Cooling System problem of the 1997 Cadillac Deville

Failure Date: 01/15/2004

I January 2004 I took my 97 Cadillac Deville to be serviced due to an indicator light on to check the coolant system. I was told that I would need a new engine due to the engineering design of the Cadillacs since 1992 of mounting steel bolts in alluminum motor mount which was designed to last only up to 100,000 miles. The options I was giver were to replace the engine or have the mounts rebuilt but the later no longer came with a warranty option since a family opted for that at which time their engine fell out in the middle of the road on their way to California. Gm informed me that they would give no assistance for any source of repair with openly admitting they were aware of the defect but were not planning to make any changes to the engine design much less recall the vehicles. After spending many hours communicating with them and an attorney writing a courtesy letter on my behalf, their resolve was to give me a certificate towards the purchase of a new vehicle. They have eno concern that this problem is a safety issue, as well as a deliberate engineering design flaw to cause the consumer to continue to spend money. Gm indicated that they were perfectly happy with false advertisement stating they backed their product with integrity and quality all well knowing this is a lie to the public. Telling lies and stealing from the american consumer has to stop! unfortunately the courts will not go against gm but hopefully the news media will take a stand for the american consumer.
