With engine on and going at approximately 45 mph, an 'abs system' warning light came off along with a continuous motor type sound. I parked the car on side road and loud 'motor' type noise continued coming underneath the car. I drove the car back home and abs system light on with continuous sound did not stop. Turned engine off and the sound did not stop. After a couple of hours, the sound did not stop and had to disconnect car battery. Took car into car dealership and right away before car was formally tested/diagnosed, the service advisor stated he knew exactly what the issue was. The car was diagnosed and service advisor confirmed the car had a 'known' problem related to abcm (abs control module). According to the service advisor this is a potential safety related problem. This is the reason why I am submitting this safety complaint. According to the service advisor, damaged abcm computer can send an incorrect signal and the breaks can close when the car is running. I contacted Chevrolet corporate and explained the situation (service req # 71-1092953268). I was informed there are no recalls for this type of problems. I did a quick search in the internet and found that many consumers are complaining about the same problem. Also noted that the problem does not seem to be related only to 2002 chevy trucks, but other car models and years. If the cardealer service manager is correct and this is a safety related problem, then this issue could cause serious incidents. Can NHTSA please look into this problem and confirm if this is a potential safety problem? thanks in advance for your help.

I was pulling into parking space and there was no brakes also happened when I was pulling out of parking lot of store . I took to gm dealer and was told that both hub bearings were loose and that is what caused me to lose all my brakes. I hit a concrete handicap sign was lucky not another car in front of me. Why would gm make a truck that would lose its brakes if a bearing was loose I am afraid to drive truck that the same thing might happen again and maybe the next time I won't be so lucky. There was no sign of anything wrong with the exception of 4 days earlier my abs light flickered on then off 1 time. Remained off after that.

I have had nothing but trouble with rotted rotors, pads that don't wear right, brake lines that rotted and rusted away that they needed to be all replaced in July of 2006. A six year old motor vehicle should not have to have all the lines replaced. The bill was $1,200. Next a abs front wheel sensor recall was done at best chevy, hingham, mass. The abs lights came on and off at their own pace. I had new front bearings installed, had my mechanic check for codes. Nothing. The brakes just never felt right sometimes. I worked as a auto mechanic for nearly 25 years, never seen anything like this brake problem. By the way I took good care of my vehicle, gm must of used sub standard brake tubing, never seen anything so decayed after 6 years. On April 29, 2011 I was driving home and had stopped at a traffic light about 1/4 mile from my home. The light turned green, I accelerated up to about 30 mph and within a few hundred feet the abs light came on. Here we go again. As I neared the entrance to my street some 300 feet away , I took my foot of the gas and the truck began to slow. At about 200 feet I began to depress the brake pedal, it seemed ok but as I got nearer to the street I found myself needing to push down more and more. I was at 15 mph and ready to begin my turn and felt something was wrong. My left front tire had begun to lightly skid. The pedal went to the floor, was down at about 10 mph and before I could get my left foot onto the emergency brake and apply it, the left side front of truck struck a tree. The road is a private way and very narrow there. No air bag deployment, didn't damage the truck too much but it hit right on the tow hook and kinked the frame. I had my mechanic bring his analyzer to my home and it informed him that the control module had failed. I've spent good money after bad on those brakes and I demand the NHTSA do something.
Coming home from vermont and 6 miles a way abs light came on,came to a stop sign and brake peddle went to floor I was pulling a u-haul trailer, got to where I was going and looked under and saw brake line was rusted, nice size hole.
I had an issue with the abs light intermittently coming on at inopportune times and when it does the abs system does not work properly. Very bad timing when on my way to work the streets were wet and the car in front of me decided to stomp on their brakes and take "that"exit off the freeway. Brakes locked up and it it wasn't for leaving enough room between cars and my quick reaction time it could of became quite ugly.

For the last week the abs is kicking in when stopping on dry pavement. Abs increases stopping distance, kicks in at speeds of 12 mph down to 5 mph. Lately the abs light is on. When abs light is on, abs does not kick in. I do not feel that I should pay the repair facility $70. 00 to diagnose a problem that I know to already exist. I am going to disable the abs in my vehicle.

I have a 2001 chevy silverado. At about 70,000 miles (2. 5 yrs ago) both the emergency brake and the abs dash lights became to come on simultaneously. I have in the past few years made several brake pad replacements and replaced the emergency brake. I have also spoken with several retail automotive centers and received no positive resolution. Still the lights continue to come on. It wasn't until today that I learned about the electronic brake control module. To think that I had been driving with out abs for almost 3 years now. Upon trying to obtain some information on the product and the problem, I was shocked and angry to find so many forums and sites where this same problem is happening to so many other people. It appears that this is wide spread problem with no easy solution. From a dealer the cost of repair is around $1500. I have done a lot of my own work on my truck, and am frustrated that a small electrical component will in the end cost me the greatest amount of money and frustration. Such an intregal component, with a very important purpose (brakes), should have a longer operating life or be made more available and affordable for replacement. At least it should be covered by a warranty.
1999 chevy silverado pickup abs brake problem ebcm module went out on truck at 33,600 miles. This module continues to run after shutting off your truck. Drains battery. Skids from dry to wet pavment. Had to replace on Saturday emergency pull over. Cost 914. 85 I have the module that was taken off truck for verification.
Consumer started vehicle and heard noise over top, engine was running. Consumer cut engine off, and this other motor was still running. Abs light came on, and consumer started smelling an odor. Abs motor continued to run without engine running, and key in ignition. Contacted dealer, and dealer stated abs motor was burned out.
Consumer was traveling 60mph on highway and heard a noise. Abs braking light came on dashboard. He turned off vehicle, and motor located under driver seat outside of vehicle, controled abs braking system. There was no abs since braking system was detached.
While driving 10 mph the abs light illuminated on the dashboard. When the consumer attempted to apply the brakes, they did not respond.
