1 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2003 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 08/16/2006

Slowly (10 mph) pulled into street, traffic had already stopped. I stepped on brake pedal and it went to the floor. Vehicle barely stopped, I thought I was going to hit the already stopped vehicle in front of me. If this had been an attempt to stop from the speed limit I would have hit the other vehicle in the rear. I would hate to think what could happen if it had been an expressway or interstate instead of a light traffic situation in a small town at very low speed. Dealer has checked the 2003 chevy silverado 1500 truck computer for codes and said they found no codes and the brake fluid is full, could not duplicate; thus, the brakes need no further examination or repair. This event, although the first to occur, occurred at an optimum time when low speed was involved. This leaves me faithless in the ability of the truck to stop when I apply the brakes. Will the event occur again and when?????????.

2 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 1998 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 02/15/2006

My 1998 Chevrolet truck is having the symtoms described in the recall for the 1999 thru 2002 recall due to corrosion affecting the antilock brakes. Recently my wife attempted to stop at a stop sign at a slow rate of speed (under 10 mph) and the brakes pulsed and groaned and she was unable to stop before the intersection. I am concerned that gm did not include 1998 as the braking system is virtually the same as the years recalled.

13 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 1998 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 01/11/2005

My anti-lock brakes on my 1998 Chevrolet silverado start to go into the anti-lock mode on dry pavement at slow speeds. This started on its own last January. I thought it was because of driving on winter roads in wisconsin, being snow covered and sometimes icy. However, this condition has continued through the spring, summer, and now fall. In fact, it is getting worse. It makes me feel like I won't be able to stop in time and maybe cause an accident. I'm waiting to see what gm is going to do regarding a recall that is in effect for this very problem in 14 states. Wisconsin is not included in this recall, but they should be. We are certainly in the "salt-belt. " and the recall should go back to 1996 because the anti-lock braking mechanism is similar from 1996-2002.

My anti-lock brakes began activating occasionally, then it became nearly everytime I use the brakes. I have had the brakes inspected and cleaned by mechanics who say they have fixed the problem. It always returns within minutes of leaving the shop. This began to happen in Feb. Of 2004. I have a 1998 silverado 1500 4x4 with front ant-ilock brakes. 22 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 1997 Chevrolet 1500

No crash or damage or injury. Just abs on a 1997 tahoe that have never worked properly. They engage at low speed braking, the vehicle slides and when they engage you can hear what sounds like a big spring engaging, weird sound. We had never driven a vehicle with abs so didn't know it was abnormal sounding and feeling but didn't like it and felt uncomfortable. I kept talking to people and they suggested I check out service notices/recalls. Was glad to see a similar situation with the 1999 to 2002 but of course that doesn't cover my 1997.
