1 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2015

I was leaving my property going up the driveway, I pressed on the brake pedal and it went to the floor and no brakes at all. I had my wife pump the pedal and could see brake fluid shooting from a rusted line. I'm glad I didn't get out on the highway. I have never heard of brake lines rusting out! I have cars from the 60's with original lines. People need to know about this issue before some one gets hurt or worse.

2 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2015

I was driving my 2001 chevy 2500hd and coming into traffic the truck slowed down and the brake pedal went to the floor. I was able to change lanes just in time to avoid an accident. I pull over to the side of the road and sure enough brake fluid leaking from the rusty gm brake hard lines. Leaking at the most common place by the abs pump which is on the driver side behind the front wheel. I was able to drive the truck home with using only the front brakes and will be replacing the hard lines with stainless lines. Called the local dealer and was quoted $1,500-$2,000. . . . Everyone should send the rusty lines to gm so they can do something about it.

3 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2014

The rear brake lines rusted through causing all the fluid to leak out limiting the braking power . . This was a very bad situation that needs to be addressed to gm. .

4 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2013

Rear brake lines have rusted through causing brake fluid to leak. Front brake lines are also rusted and look to also fail.

5 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

The brakes failed in an emergency stop situation. A car ran a stop sign in front of me. I applied the brakes hard. The abs kicked in and I avoided a collision. I applied the brakes again and the pedal went to the floor. Brake fluid was leaking on the ground from a ruptured brake line. I took to the dealer and they stated that all the brake lines are corroded and require replacement.

6 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2012

Approached stop sign, applied brakes, pedal went to the floor. . . While towing an enclosed 26' trailer with full load. Trailer brakes enabled a controlled stop of vehicles without an accident. Brake fluid was dripping from area beneath driver's side door along frame. One (1) line is leaking, with all of the other lines severely rusted (visually).

7 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2012

I was backing out of my driveway when the brake pedal went to the floor. Upon inspection found brake lines rusted and brake fluid leaking.

8 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2012

I just finished reading an article on yahoo autos concerning brake problems with chevy trucks brake lines rusting. In 2012 I found brake fluid leaking under my truck. A leak developed in middle of the line to the rear brakes. I repaired this line at this time. In August. 14. 2013 I had the truck hitched to a 28 ft fifth wheel trailer (truck is rated to haul this trailer) and while moving it on a back country road I found that the only brakes I had were the trailer brakes. Turned truck and drove it home, parked trailer and took truck to local brake and muffler place and paid $292. 02 to have the 2 lines to the front brakes replaced. One was rusted in half and the other had a small leak the 2 lines to the abs distribution block from the master cylinder have not been changed yet but they are in bad shape too. If this loss of brakes had happened on the road the truck and fifth wheel (6000+ lbs & 8000+ lbs ) could have caused a major accident possibly killing someone.

9 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2011

On 9/15/11, depressed brake pedal and it went completely to the floor. The truck did stop. I was less than a mile from home. Inspected undercarriage at home and found brake fluid leaking from an undetermined source. Took truck to servicer in bardstown, ky on 9/15/11. Received call on 9/16/11 that in addition to the one line leaking, the other 3 are suffering from heavy corrosion and at risk of imminent failure. The truck was purchased new in 2001 and has approximately 75,000 miles on it. The truck has been driven exclusively in ky, and not exposed to excessive salt.

10 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2011

Brake line failure due to corrosion. Failure occurred without warning, excessive pedal travel and extended stopping distance through stop sign. Fluid leaking from beneath driver's side frame area. All metal lines heavily and substantially corroded. Identified and replaced failed line. Adjacent line subsequently failed during extended (10 second) full pedal application before vehicle even left garage. Replaced all 1/4" lines on truck.

11 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2003

Brake line failure. Abs system failure. Light for abs and brake have been on and off since original purchase. Dealers could not eliminate the problem. Noticed rust on brake lines throughout. Currently all brake lines are covered in rust and leaking just prior to the abs components on driver side middle frame rail. Brake lines are brittle to the touch. Currently the breaking system has no pressure. All fluid has leaked from the system. Service requested by dealer for noisy and leaking transfer case. Dealer applied grease to the drive shaft. Problem not resolved. While driving in 4 wheel drive, the transfer case experienced a catastrophic failure. Unit was extremely hot and the gears were ground out. To my knowledge gm is and was aware that the transfer case fluid pumps were wearing a hole in the case from the inside. Now know as "pump rub". Dealers had opportunities to repair and or replace and failed to act to resolve the known damage.
