36 Body problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 05/14/2015

My husband, 3 year old, any myself were driving back from a doctor appointment when we had to make a sudden stop because of a driver 2 cars ahead of us that quickly applied brakes to make a quick right hand turn. The driver in front of us in turn had to apply his breaks on and when my husband applied the brakes on our 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche there were no brakes!! our 3 year old was asleep in the backseat!! we hit him of course because we could not stop (going downhill on a busy highway) we ended up having to coast up the hill in the middle of the lane because there was nowhere safe for us to pull off . There were almost several other accidents due to it being a blind spot for drivers coming over the hill both ways and we were stuck there because we had no way to stop ourselves again. So after all that we ended up needing our truck towed and the brake lines are corroded and had busted!! so not only do we have a tow bill now we are responsbile for replacing them! the estimate is $800!!! thanks gm! we will be selling this one soon! gm won't do a recall on these after all the complaints and accidents about the brake lines on here? seriously? we had no clue about any of this until today! the mechanic that is fixing ours today told us he has 2 more that have the exact same issue and have to be replaced on theirs too! I guess it takes people dying or getting seriously injured before the car manufactures have to take responsibility. And what makes it even worse is that the whole brake line replacement is available (for us to purchase) and it's only about $160!! nice to know the safety of our family, friends, and other motorists aren't worth it to them. Just 2 miles earlier we drove though a school zone!!!!! as the kids were leaving for the day! thank god they lasted that 2 extra miles and no one was seriously injured or killed.

42 Body problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

Galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metal (aluminum and steel) components in the manufacturer's installed bed cover system is causing the latching mechanisms for the bed cover to disintegrate and cease to function as designed. The bed cover panels can no longer be reliably latched and are subject to breaking free from the vehicle during transit. A bed cover panel that departs the vehicle due to latch failure would be a substantial roadway hazard. There is no way isolate the dissimilar metals to stop the corrosion.

45 Body problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 07/02/2014

Driver and passenger exterior door latch did not latch when door was closed. While the driver was turning right on a village street, both the driver and passenger doors opened unexpectedly. While in motion around the turn the driver attempted to close the door to avoid oncoming traffic. During the attempt to close the door, the car hit a tree on the right side of the road. A police report was filed. I suspect the stuck latch was due to water and/or dirt getting in the latch hinge.

54 Body problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

My 2008 Avalanche with 72,000 miles on it, is completely rotting away underneath. Ive had to replace many parts, shocks, autoride compressor, fuel pump module, had body rust repaired, have had 3 door handles fall right off. . Last 2 mechanics told me that all parts located underneath truck are rotting away and that I need to get rid of truck because it is not worth repairing. I have tried to work with gm but they claim that its normal wear and tear. Paid 30k for truck Dec 2011. Have membership to car wash, and keep it very clean. Undercarriage included. Cant get my service suspension light to shut off, even the dealer cant. This truck should not be rotting away the way it is. . Please help.

55 Body problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

My 79 year old wife badly cut her finger while opening the door of our vehicle. The door handle of my vehicle is plated in chrome. This chrome is now coming undone, and is razor sharp. Today the last of the 4 door handles broke due to defect on the handles themselves. Gm states that these are trim and not considered mechanical (even though they perform a mechanical function) so they aren't recalling them even though this issue is widespread and is a safety issue. If a vehicle is involved in an accident. The passengers inside are unconscious or unable to open the door themselves due to injury , the door handles could break as a firefighter or other person from the outside tries to open them. . This is a lawsuit waiting to happen and gm knows about this problem they are choosing to ignore it. Recall and replace these door handles with ones that can actually open the door before someone gets hurt! I am on high doses of coumadin and if it were my finger I could have bleed to death. Get this recalled please.

56 Body problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 09/26/2012

The vehicle was stopped at a 2-way stop. Upon turning right, my foot went from the brake to the gas pedal and got hooked on a piece of metal extending from the arm of the accelerator. This caused my foot to be trapped below the brake pedal but attached to the gas pedal. The vehicle spun back and forth while trying to get my foot off the accelerator. I hit a truck coming from the opposite direction from which I was turning pinning it to the guard rail. Although both trucks had stopped, the tires on my truck were still spinning because my foot was still hooked on the accelerator and wedge below the brake pedal. Only after I turned the key off could I put the truck in park. In order to get out of my truck I had to unlace my shoe and pull my foot out, then pry it off the side of the accelerator, leaving a hole in the side of my shoe.

57 Body problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 08/31/2012

The plating on the interior door handle is peeling to the point where it is cutting my finger each time I open the door.

58 Body problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

Ltz chrome door handles broke on both passenger side doors due to defect on the handles themselves. Gm states that these are trim and not considered mechanical (even though they perform a mechanical function) so they aren't recalling them even though this issue is widespread and is a safety issue. In the event a vehicle is involved in an accident and the passengers inside are unconscious or unable to open the door themselves due to injury - this poses a problem if the door handles break as a firefighter or other person from the outside tries to open them. They seriously break that easy - two in the same week. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen and gm knows about this problem they are choosing to ignore it. Recall and replace these door handles with ones that can actually open the door before someone gets hurt!.

59 Body problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 03/31/2012

Presently three of my 2008 chevy Avalanche ltz door handles have broken off. I have no kids and no excessive usage of the back two doors but they broke the worse. The GMC repair shop explained that most of these door handles brake off in the winter. Therefore, I'd say this is a known defect. When you pay almost 50k for a new truck and within 4 years you are driving a vehicle with only one door handle that is pathetic. I will never buy another GMC chevy and I will never recommend a chevy Avalanche. There are multiple other defects with this truck as well. This is not a quality made vehicle.

60 Body problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 10/01/2011

Electronic door locks have failed on three of the 4 doors on this car. The neither the key fob or the door mounted locking switch will toggle them between locked and unlocked position. You can hear the actuator trying to work but their is something wrong with the linkage preventing this. This is a major in convenience, as well as a potential safety hazard.

61 Body problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 08/02/2011

The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated that the chrome on the interior passenger and driver side door handles were deteriorating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who did not provide an explanation for the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 37,000. Consumer cancelled complaint 04/13/2012.

62 Body problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 05/06/2011

The handles to the bed covers have deteriorated completely off. Not all of them as of this writing but soon they all will fall off at the connection at the side of the bed. The corrosion is happening rapidly. I rarely take them off, so it is not from wear and tear. I do not haul things in the bed that would bend, leak, or crack them. I live in north east texas approxamiately an hour east of dallas. There is a white corrosion that is eating the metal. Since this is a non salt air state and a non road salt mixture state (maybe 1x a year which I do not drive if road conditions call for street treatment) it is not that. I rarely drive the truck, for I do not work, I take it to the store, about 4 miles away and I take it to dallas every now and then. The safety concern is my handle failing and one of my bed covers comes off while I'm driving. The covers are heavy and fairly large. I don't think they would fly far but I wouldn't want to run over one of them. I have the covers off at this point for obvious reasons but the truck was not designed for them to be off. The wind whips the truck unexpectedly and you feel like you have little control and I associate this with the amount of wieght that is gone off the truck that was designed to keep the truck wieghted appropiately for safe driving conditions. It is not the blowing wind but the wind created as the truck picks up speed, the multi axle trucks also cause it to actually move up and over when they pass my truck on the highway. It is an insecure feeling and is not conducive to confident driving. When the wind is blowing it is hard to keep the truck on the road along with the other factors it feels like it will take flight. The covers are the wieght that keeps the truck from being blown out of the lane your driving in. Thank you for your time and considerations. Sincerely, corroded bed cover handles,TX.

63 Body problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 07/13/2010

At present 3 outside door handles are broken & may be pulled off at any time. These are: rt front pass. , rt rear pass. & left rear pass. Doors. This represents an expense to me of $450 or $500. I, or previous owner, have replaced 3 door handles: rt front pass. , under warranty; left rear 13 Jul 2010, $124; & driver's door 23 Apr 2013, $155. Local chevy service dept said reason for this failure is likely because handles are made of plastic, not metal; but they can't repair for free because gm doesn't acknowledge responsibility. I have owned many gm products in my 75 years, but I think this will be my last because quality of their vehicles sucks like an egg-sucking dog and, like the dog, it seems to be endemic.

64 Body problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 05/05/2010

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated the front exterior driver's side door and both rear doors failed to unlatch when accessing with the key fob. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who informed that the failure was contributed to the faulty door lock actuator. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. Js.

65 Body problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 10/08/2009

Water pours into passenger compartment from shut sunroof if any sort of heavy precipitation, last date below but has been happening since 2005. Have since learned the flooded floor can cause random air bag deployment. This then is a safety issue big time.

66 Body problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 02/02/2009

Exterior door handle broke off in hand. First the rear door, and now all doors within a two year time frame. I'm not sure if this is related to the heat in florida as the other recall on the interior door handles has been performed due to separation of the chrome. Exterior door handle breakage causes a risk from cuts and abrasions, and also the possibility of falling due to expecting the handle to stay in place and not break so easily. This also makes the vehicle a target for theft, as all that is required for a break in is a hard pull and a screw driver making easy access for a criminal.

67 Body problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 09/09/2008

68 Body problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche
