Engine stall with loss of steering and brakes when turning from tower oaks st onto jones road, a busy 4 lane road. Car stopped in oncoming lane on jones road, just avoiding a head on collision. Crankshaft sensor failure. Had car towed to dealer who infomed me that there was no recall on the crankshaft sensor of the Chevrolete Avalanche paid dealer $540. For cransshaft sensor replacement. Have not had a stalling problem sence replacing the cranshaft sensor. This is a very dangerous situation and can cause severe accidents as the loss of steering and brakes is critical.

I am an owner of a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500. Lately I have had continued and consistent unwanted anti-lock brake (abs) activation when traveling at low speeds and approaching stop signs, stop lights, and yield signs at or near intersections. The unwanted abs activation appears identical and consistent with gm product recall 05068 and NHTSA campaign number 05v-379 in which 804,000 GMC and Chevrolet vehicles were recalled for unwanted abs activation. The primary geographic regions affected appears to be the salt belt states. The problem appeared to be abs wheel sensors not properly prepared prior to installation causing rust and/or corrosion to affect the wheel sensors. Although a check of my VIN does not yield any safety recalls on my specific vehicle, I believe my vehicle is affected by the same front wheel sensor corrosion issue as those vehicles listed in the recall. My vehicle Avalanche which is one of the vehicles affected. I also reside in illinois which is one of the states affected. I am concerned this may cause and accident. I also believe this is a manufacturer defect and therefor the manufacturer should be accountable for any defect that may jeopardize consumer safety. I would like my wheel sensors cleaned and/or replaced per gm recall and at no cost to me.
I purchased a used 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 in November 2014. I have had continued and consistent unwanted anti-lock brake (abs) activation when traveling at low speeds and approaching stop signs, stop lights, and yield signs at or near intersections. The unwanted abs activation has nearly caused several accidents. Tl- the contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500. The contact stated that while traveling at a low speeds, the abs sensor illuminated and upon pressing the brake pedal the vehicle lunge forward. The contact mentioned that excessive force was required into order to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was not included in recall NHTSA campaign id number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000. Pam.
I purchased the 2006 vehicle used in Dec 2013. In 2014 the transmission went bad. In 2015 I replaced the transmission and brake pads & roaders. 2016 replaced the fuel pump because it also went bad, replaced tires (normal wear), bought a new battery because it died. 2017 it needed two hub bearing and both front wheel hub replaced. This is an ongoing problem with this vehicle! I just found out my air bag sensor will need to be removed and replaced. All my money has been flushed down to this vehicle. I don't recommend anyone buying a chevy truck.

While driving thru a parking lot after picking up my lunch, the food began to fall which I took my eyes off driving to catch it. When I looked up I saw light pole in front of me and when I pushed my brakes, it felt like the pedal went straight to the floor. Its like I pushed so hard I overpowered the system. When I backed away from the pole the brakes felt fine. I hit the pole which in turn caused cosmetic damage along with breaking the steering box because the tire hit the cement base. Also we found the brake fluid level sensor had broken at the fluid reservoir.
Tl-the contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated that while driving 7 mph and applying the brakes, the vehicle did not slow down. The contact stated the abs was active but the vehicle would not stop. The contact then pumped the brakes to stop the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic and the mechanic discovered rust around the abs and brake drum. The mechanic stated the abs sensors needed to be replaced and the brake drums and mounts needed to be cleaned. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign I. D. 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and called the manufacturer. The manufacturer stated that due to the state the vehicle was registered in, the vehicle was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 93,000. Kmj.
First few months experienced truck lunging forward whilst attempting to stop. Expressed concern with service dept. They stated nature of the vehicle performance. March 2013 called gm service #71-116-5269812 after experiencing on highway @ 65 mph the vehicle accelerating as I applied brake to slow down rpm's jumped to 4500 and accelerated. 3/21/13 mileage 24,565 was told by dealership no codes were found. Was referred by gm to tech specialist 3/26/13 @ 866 790 5700 ext. 32664 told to get second opinion then completely ignored by gm for follow ups. April 1st different dealership found code event stored in transmission control module from March 15th but no diagnostic was present, they cleaned the throttle body. Mid April 2013 brakes began pulsating on compression. Mid April frustrated and very concerned with safety called 800 lemon law found on line and kimmel & silverman advised gm / gm responded disclaiming issues. @ 28,429 miles 5/21/13 front rotors replaced and rear rotors resurfaced. Transmission dipstick tube fracture fix: pipe insulation & zip tie. 8/20/13 brakes pulsating again & spongy - vibration noted by service but not addressed. Brought to specialist; right rear rotor grooved & left rear had chatter marks. 8/29/13 went to amco they found 4 codes in truck on gm scanner which dealership denied there were any. Sept. 2013 received bulletin " throttle position sensor may cause engine to run rough ". Getting no-where with gm or dealership and fearing for safety in oct. 2013 I opted to trade the vehicle at a great loss as it was my only transportation. Mind you this was my 2nd Avalanche - the 1st one I'd had a front end accident; air bag never deployed, fortunately I was not injured and deemed the performance issues to be due to the accident and traded into this new Avalanche. I have documentation for all of this and have lost over $30,000 due to gm negligence.

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact engaged the brake pedal while driving approximately 25 mph and the vehicle kept going forward. The contact almost rear ended another vehicle. The contact purchased new brakes and the vehicle has continued to accelerate. The contact never notified the manufacturer. He did contact the authorized dealer the second time the vehicle failed to stop. The dealer stated that the sensor caused the failure to occur. The contact stated that he had an extended warranty and the dealer advised him that the warranty would not cover the expenses. The failure mileage was 43,000. The current mileage was 45,180.
I believe your recall system is broken. My vehicle was recalled for a brake problem. I was not experiencing any problems but I took it in for the recall anyway. The service performed was inadequate to address the problem. 3 months went by and the wheel sensors failed. When I took the vehicle back for service they said it was not covered under the recall because I already had addressed the recall. This would suggest I should have waited for the problem to exist before addressing the recall.
On 7/12/05, I had my vehicle at Chevrolet 73 for the brakes. At that time they informed me I needed brake pads and rotors all the way around the vehicle. They told me and showed me the "excessive rust" on the rotors. The vehicle is only 3 yrs old and only had 35,000 miles on it. I was upset that they got to that point and now it was going to cost me $1000 to replace them. All my service was performed at this dealer. After I complained they told me they would cut the price to $360. They wanted to "cut" the back rotors replace all the pads and if the front rotors need to be replaced they would "have gm pick up that cost". I was extremely skeptical about them doing the work. If they originally felt I needed to replace the pads and rotors, how could this less expensive repair be safe? I did not allow them to do the job and had it performed at another service center. This am my local paper had an article about the recall of 800,000 vehicles due to corrosion affecting the anti-lock brake system leading to low-speed crashes. My vehicle is a 2002 Avalanche and is part of that recall. When I called gm they informed me it was the "anti-lock brakes sensor. " my thought is if the sensor is affected by the corrosion, the corrosion also contributed to the rapid deterioration of the rotors and that affected the brake pads. This is a safety issue that should also be recalled along with the sensor. I would appreciate your help in this matter, there may be other gm owners out there that do not realize this is happening and could result in more serious crashes.
