I bought the car used (with 25,000) and currently it has 108,000. This is ridiculous! its a common problem thought the state, why isn't it being replaced free !.

45 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 12/23/2008

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche. While traveling 55 mph the contact noticed that the speedometer suddenly stopped functioning. The contact stated that the manufacturer sent recall information regarding the failure to the dealers and not the consumers; therefore, he was unable to get the remedy repaired at no charge. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer but no repairs were made when the complaint was filed. The failure mileage was 65000 and the current mileage was 103285.

46 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 12/01/2008

Failure has occurred twice on my 2004 Avalanche surrounding the inefficiencies within my dash board. The speedometer was reading incorrectly. It was very dangerous as the accurate speed was not reporting. I was able to get this replaced at about 40,000 miles. Recently, the gas gauge is not working correctly. After filling up the tank and taking a road trip the gas gauge immediately reported an empty gas reading. The gas gauge continues to read incorrectly and fluctuates. I have contacted the company to find out that there is a service warranty on the vehicle up to about 70,000 miles. Currently my truck is at 86000 miles all due to highway traffic to work (30 miles each way). I do not feel that I should expense this cost since this is clearly a factory issue. Regardless of the number of miles on the vehicle if it is a known defect it should be covered. This is very dangerous as I could run out of gas on the road. This is also very disappointing as this depicts the quality of the vehicle. My father has bought nothing but Chevrolet's over the years and states how efficient the vehicles are. In addition I have already replaced the entire dash board once from the first incident surrounding the speedometer to have received another defective dash board surrounding the gas gauge.

47 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 11/20/2008

The instrument panel on my vehicle is displaying the incorrect information for fuel level and oil level. This is occurring at startup and continues while I drive the vehicle and is a constant problem. Nothing has yet been done to correct the problem but feel that the manufacturer should assume financial responsibility of correcting the malfunction.

48 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 11/19/2008

Speedometer does not read zero while vehicle is stopped. It reads approximately 60 mph.

49 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 11/01/2008

Speedometer has stopped working properly. It may not move at all or it may tell me I am going 120 mph. I know of several other Avalanche owners that have had or are having the save problem. The vehicle has less than 47,000 miles. I spoke to the dealer and was told there is a recall on older models, but not on my 05.

50 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 10/27/2008

The speedometer in my 2004 chevy Avalanche starting sticking - and now reads any were from 45 - 65 when I am at a stop and over 120 at times, very sporadic operation of speedometer can not determine true speed of travel.

Speedomoter will not work, then stick and then not work.

52 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 10/10/2008

I have a 2005 chevy Avalanche that I am the original owner and have recently had a problem with the speedometer not working correctly. Some days it works fine and other days it doesn't work or the speed is all over the place. I have heard this has been an issue on previous year models and gm has not done a recall. No one can tell me exactly what the problem is and I don't want to waste money trying to figure it out. This is obviously a problem gm has known about and will not address. This is also a safety issue that gm needs to rectify ASAP! any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your assistance in this matter, regards, mr. Anthony trapino.

53 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche

54 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 09/18/2008

Erratic speedometer, works sometimes, sometimes stays at 0 miles an hour, sometimes reads 30 or so miles an hour at a complete stop.

55 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 08/01/2008

Speedometer not working properly. Usually stuck anywhere from 65 - over 120 mph, whether parked or moving at a lower speed. The first time it happened it had reset itself and didn't happen again for a while. Now constantly incorrect. Also, some other lights are out on instrument panel and steering wheel. Too expensive to fix.

56 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 07/19/2008

The instrument panel to include the speedometer, oil pressure, and battery gauge have stopped working on my 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche. Being unable to tell the speed of my vehicle is a safety issue that I have been unable to get gm to resolve. The vehicle has not been involved in any type of accident the speedometer just started going from 10 miles per hour to 100 miles per hour. I called gm service, went to the local dealership and called the dealership where the vehicle was purchased. I received no help even when I tried to explain that not being able to tell the speed of the vehicle was a problem.

57 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 06/15/2008

2005 Avalanche speedometer started reading slower than I was traveling one month later it doesn't work.

58 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 06/13/2008

Instrument cluster on my 2004 chevy Avalanche has stopped working. The failure occurred while driving down the road.

59 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 05/12/2008

Speedometer needle was tacky last week while driving in town around 45-50 mph. I watched the gauge and the problem seemed to have corrected itself. Yesterday, the speedometer completely went crazy while I was driving, quit working at 25 mph, and when I slowed down, the needle went below the mph gauge line and is now pointing straight down, blocking my view of the gear shift panel on the instrument cluster. I have 44,000 miles or so on this vehicle and just bought it used two weeks ago.

60 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 05/01/2008

Instrument panel problems. Gm extended the warranty on 2003-2004 trucks for instrument panel issues, I have a 2005 which has issues similar to the previous models. The speedo gets stuck and gives false speeds and the hour meter on the truck re-set it self to 0.

61 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 04/13/2008

While driving looked down at speedometer doing 150 mph when I stopped went to 60mph while setting still. Many friends having the same problem with these models of chevy Avalanches. Called chevy they stated there was not a recall for this problem. Something wrong.

62 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 04/06/2008

All of a sudden I realize that my speedometer is not working and other gauges on my panel are not working correctly. I can not understand why there are only complaints and no defect investigations on this website. Since this is a safety issue I would have though there to be more of a concern. Thus we question why there are so many deaths on our highways. I also received a service issue from Chevrolet but my Avalanche is over the mileage specified. Like many of the other complaints I read. There is an obvious defect with the part so why is the no investigation? does someone have to die first?.

63 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 03/30/2008

My 2004 Avalanche speedometer and tachometer read completely inaccurate. Example=shows me going 120mph and 3000m rpm with motor off. I bought the vehicle used from a chevy dealer and was told it had warranty remaining. When the problem began last year I was told it was not warranted. I lacked the money for the replacement and have been driving it broken. Now I am finding out through other Avalanche owners that it has been being fixed by dealers at no charge as there have been so many problems. I feel this should be a recall. I know my vehicle now has 110,000 miles, but I can document by law enforcement notes on a ticket I received last year that I had the problem about 30,000 miles ago. I feel this should be repaired at no expense to me. They told me when I called that their parts dept had a long waiting list for the replacement panel so you know ?Chevrolet knew they had a widespread problem. Thank you. I hope to hear back from you. Also at about the same time my abs/brake light started coming on after I drive a few miles. I don't know if it is as common of a problem or related to the instrument panel problem or not.

64 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 03/23/2008

I own a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche. The speedometer began going out at 60,000 miles, and now the gas gauge and tachometer occasionally fail. I have 123,000 miles on my vehicle. The local dealer, ryan Chevrolet, informed me that gm would have fixed it prior to 72,000 miles. I found this out after 85,000 miles.

65 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 03/18/2008

I was driving down the road and realized that my odometer was not working properly. . It was registering that I was going 120 mph, in a 35, I knew that was wrong. . . All the other gauges are working well. I now recorded 120 mph or sometimes it will record between 75 and 90. I haven't corrected it. . I'm waiting for GMC do something. Or until the inspection sticker expires.

66 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 03/02/2008

The speedometer had stopped working on my 04 Avalanche. Not realizing this and traveling at night with no traffic I had gotten pulled over for speeding. Once I had stopped and noticed the gage was stuck at 60mph I showed it to the officer and he let me go. I realize there is a recall out for this if the vehicle has less than 70k miles but I am over that because of the amount of driving I do for my job. This could be a serious problem and should be covered for a longer period of time, or all clusters should be changed because they will fail at one point.

67 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 03/01/2008

At about 65k miles, speedometer stopped registering accurately. Now about 75k on the vehicle if odometer accurate. When stopped speedometer reads anywhere from 60 to 100mph and when driving reads anywhere from 90 to off the scale (6 o'clock position on the speedometer where no speed is listed). In short, wildly inaccurate. Researched the problem and it appears chevy is replacing the instrument cluster for this problem on up to 2004 vehicles but not 2005 although it appears the problem is rampant among Avalanche owners. Request NHTSA implement a recall on this widespread problem.

68 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 02/11/2008

Speedometer has been acting erratically.

69 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 02/04/2008

My speedometer begin skipping on my 05 chevy Avalanche when I was driving. It did this for about a week or so. Then it started showing that I was doing 20-mph faster than I was actually going. When I would stop, it would still indicate I was going 20-40mpn. Finally, on Feb 4th, it got stuck at over 120 mph. So now I no longer have a working speedometer.

70 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 01/18/2008

The speedometer will stop working after a short time of driving. The needle will either slowly fall to zero or not work all together. Cruise control is not affected by this failure. Chevy has issued a warranty extension, but it ends at 70k miles. My truck has 78k. I would like a recall to be issued after reading that many other owners of the same model truck are reporting the same problem.
