I bought a chevy Aveo back in Feb 2014. Was on way home sometime in August and getting on to highway from ramp would not accelerate and running hot according to temp gauge. I got it towed to shop and called the next day to find they could not find nothing wrong!! so I picked up the car and about three weeks later on way home this time only on back roads doing 35, the car does same thing. What is it gonna take for chevy to fix this issue that I have seen numerous compaints about. I am not able to just go but another car!!!! wake up Chevrolet!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I was driving down the hwy about 60 mph and tried to push the gas but all it did was sputter and slowdown. Had to pull over and see what was wrong. Cod not find anything so I started it up again and the same thing. It just sputters. So I drove to a service station (very slowly) that I just had my oil change the previous day thinking they may have done something. After they checked it, they said it was nothing related to them but that they hooked it up to a machine and it was reading 11 different types of censors causing it to misfire. They had just had in a 2007 chevy cobalt doing the same thing that there was a recall on. Wondering if the recall for the 2006 Aveo for the drl would cause these problems?! they service tech mentioned more than likely it is not 11 censors but just 1or 2 affecting the others read on the machine.

2006 Chevrolet Aveo. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle multiple mechanical and electrical problems. The consumer stated she experienced multiple mechanical and electrical problems with the vehicle. It was not disclosed to her, that the vehicle had frame damage, it was a fleet vehicle, and the air bags were replaced with used ones. While driving 45 mph, a bolt in the broke, which caused the engine to collapse and landed on the axle, breaking it on the driver's side. Also, she had the axle replaced previously, not knowing there was a problem with the frame. Due to the frame damage and warped undercarriage, a bolt connected to the frame that was connected to the motor mount hidden under the engine had previously bent and severed 3/4 of the way through the bolt. It went un-detected and her mechanic didn't know what to look for, since the frame was not disclosed.
My 19 year old daughter just arrived at her mothers house, parked the car and came inside. When we started seeing, and smelling smoke. So we went outside to investigate the problem and saw smoke pouring out from under the hood as if there was a fire contained under the hood. So we called 911 and suddenly we heard a loud pop and saw flames on the hood. We proceeded to get a water hose to pour water on the car until finally the firemen arrived. The car still remains in front of her mothers house, if anyone would like to take a look at the car. The firemen deemed it to be a total loss. I would like any information for recalls on this make and model.

Vehicle just locked up, and I was forced to coast down a hill from my houseintyo uncoming traffic. . This has been the second time this has occurred with this vehicle, the first ime, I called triple aaa and had the car towed to arroway Chevrolet dealership in mount kisco NY. This is where I purchased the vehicle. This occured with a 2005 Chevrolet cavalier tht I purchased from arroway in mount kisco, it occured so frequently, that I turned it in and purchased the Aveo. Unfortunately, the same thing is happening with this car.

Bought 2009 Aveo LS sedan brand new for daughter so she would have a safe car for college. When the car warms up it will not respond to gas pedal inputs. This happens on and off at random times, sometimes in the middle of an intersection, other times on the highway. We have parked the car as it is unsafe for our child to drive in the current condition. Trips to the dealership result in "we can't find anything wrong". Frustrating. . . . This was an expensive lesson to never buy a gm product again!.
Car was undrivable due to engine miss on 12/5/13. Called harbor Chevrolet in michigan city, indiana to report problem and ask for service. Service appointment was not available for 5 days, so sought diagnosis at local shop. Local shop indicated faulty coil/sparkplugs was issue (local mechanic was classic imports). Owner purchased spark plugs and coil (parts purchased from harbor Chevrolet parts department) and replaced these parts the next day. Car ran fine. Owner found out that car had a recall for coil/plugs on January 14th, 2014 from gm through onstar notification. Owner contacted dealership for reimbursement of diagnosis and parts cost of $365. 87. Harbor reimbursed only for spark plugs-$88. 84. Owner contacted Chevrolet and Chevrolet indicated on plugs and boots were part of service bulletin not coil.
Purchases car in 8/3013 to date I have had it in for service on 10 occasions for engine issues, a/c, heating, engine coils I was sold an unsafe, unreliable car.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated that after having the spark plugs replaced, the engine begin to malfunction while driving 70 mph. The vehicle would not shift out of first gear and an egg smell entered the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnostic test however, the dealer could not identify the defect of the engine. The dealer repaired the heater blower but that did not remedy the defect. The failure mileage was 41,699. Updated 12/30/cn.
I have only had this car for 6/7 months before I started having problems. First the passenger door stopped opening and then the interior lights went out within the first 3 months. I was on my way to work one day and the car started decellerating until it just stopped. At first this was an off an on issue but now it wont start at all. I replaced the ignition coil and spark plugs, just to find that there was a recall I wasnt aware of, but the car still wont move and the battery is dead now.
Hi I bough a 2005 chevy Aveo with 9,000. 00 mile I had no problem. Until one day the car completely stop and wont turn on. It had almost 23,000. 00 when it happen. Luckily for me it stop in front of a mechanic shop. The shop check the car and said the engine is bad. I bough a used low mileage engine replace it and it turn on and drive except for the shifting. It didn't shift to fourth gear and also turn off while driving it. Then I was told the transmission is bad. I change the transmission with low mileage and still I have the same problem I had warranty change it again and still it doesn't shift fourth gear and it still turns off. I change the computer, I did a tune up, engine oil change, I've change the coils and some seal in top of the engine, and I still have the same problem. The car been sitting since then I wanted to wait to have money to fix it, thinking that maybe the shop was lying to me by asking me to replace all this things. I save I few dollars and wanted to get it fix I had another shop looked at it and it seems that is the same diagnostic was detected. I friend told me to google it and I found out that am not the only one with that problem. I just wish I google it before I spend all the money on it. Lesson learn I hope they do a recall because I too was afraid to drive and get in to an accident because it turn off on me .
I have been trying to get this issue resolved for about a year to no avail. My 2011 chevy Aveo 1. 4l has a very bad vibration at idle that can be felt on the whole front end and through to the steering column. I have motor mounts replaced (they had broken), replaced spark plugs, and motor and transmission shifted to sit better. Unfortunately, none of this has rectified the issue. I have been speaking with chevy's customer service department that has proven useless and dealerships stating that this is just what the car does. I'm concerned that since this vibration can break motor mounts it can obviously cause damage elsewhere. I now have a burning smell that can't seem to be located and none at chevy seems to be concerned.
During annual inspection, mechanic noticed slight looseness in the tie rod connection; passed inspection and asked me to have him check during next oil change. We discussed replacing the tie rod in any case with a brand with a lifetime warranty in two months when I was off from work. In the meantime, I had to have recall work done at the dealership to replace all spark plug boots and plugs. (Chevrolet 5-door Aveo). Asked the dealer for an opinion on the tie rod. Dealer mechanics looked at it and said it was of no concern. Went back to the local mechanic and arranged for the replacement of the left inner tie rod anyway. During the work, the mechanic discovered that the threads on the outer tie rod were completely stripped down to shiny metal. The nut slid off when pulled gently with his fingers. Replaced both parts and then had to have a front end alignment. Other than the looseness noted during annual state inspection, there were no warning signs. The vehicle was used for commuting in well-maintained state and us highways only. I am the second owner and purchased the car used in March 2011. I tried to report to gm using their website, but there is no part dedicated to the reporting of safety issues.

The thermostat casing and thermostat blew when I was on the freeway. When I took it to the repair person, he said the parts are really cheap. It's a design flaw and chevy should do a recall.
I have been at the dea;ers repair shop like 10+ times for the same transmission problem. Today I was out on a quick trip to the store and when I changed gears from reverse (to get out of my drive way) then to drive the gear shifter became hard to move ? and then the "hold" light came on ? after that my car went on and off acceleration dragging, then on my way out of the parking lot of the store, I pushed to accelerate and then my car barely moved like slower than the cars regular cruise (like when you let the car move on its own in motion off the accelerator) it went slower than that. I am about up to my shoulders in frustration with it, now the hold light wont come off and I almost got in a car accident now it feels unsafe to drive.
Cracked thermostat housing- cheaply made (plastic) thermostat housing which can easily crack and it has in several Aveo between the years 2004-2006. I have a 2005 chevy Aveo and it cracked costing me entirely too much money on a tow, rental car etc.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated that the vehicle would hesitate when changing gears and in addition, the heater was inoperable. The contact would also smell smoke coming from the vents sporadically. The dealer and a local mechanic were unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 93,000 and the current mileage was 105,000. The VIN was unavailable. Kmj.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact was driving approximately 40-45 mph when a knocking was heard from the engine. The contact removed the vehicle from the roadway and shut the vehicle off but the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was then towed to a local repair shop where she was advised that there were damages to the engine valves and that the head would need to be removed. The mechanic also recommended taking the vehicle to an authorized dealer. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. She contacted the manufacturer and they advised her that they could not provide any assistance until the vehicle was inspected by an authorized dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated that the engine warning indicator illuminated sporadically when attempting to start the vehicle. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 8,349.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently and the engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was maneuvered to the shoulder where the engine was turned off. Upon restarting, the vehicle resumed normally for ten minutes and the problem recurred six times before arriving at the contact's residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and they stated that the failure was contributed to the throttle positioning sensor, catalytic converter, and accelerator pedal. In 2010 the same defective components were replaced under service warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 52,973.
There was no specific event leading up to the failure. The failure occurred in my 2006 chevy Aveo. The thermostat housing (made of plastic) completely broke apart and all the antifreeze flowed out. There was no warning. I have ordered a new housing and thermostat, which chevy has re-designed to aluminum. . . . No longer plastic, and my husband will be replacing. Obviously, chevy knew there was an issue or they would have stuck with the plastic version. I believe this item should be recalled. Thank you.
Engine stops running.
I was running errands when steam came gushing out on my passenger side in the hood area. I pulled over to discover that my thermostat housing was broken and my thermostat laying elsewhere in the car. I searched the internet and discovered that this is a well-known problem. The current thermostat housing is made of plastic. The design is such that the only thing that was holding the thermostat in was a sound welded plastic seam. I have ordered a new metal housing with an improved design. To me, this indicates chevy knew about this problem. Called chevy consumer line and they gave the old line of your car is not under warranty and claimed they had no history of complaints.
While driving the throttle is sometimes stuck in a lower gear causing me to move at a limited speed while on the road. There has always been a problem with the throttle such as erratic acceleration, but only recently it has become stuck.
We were driving along in the dead of winter and noticed there was no heat. We hooked it up to a code reader and it came up p0128 a thermostat housing fault. Brought it in to get checked and it is the thermostat housing and the service center employees all knew this a known failure on this vehicle. The out of pocket cost 160. 00 for part only from chevy not including labor. The new one is metal not plastic like the one that rolled out of the factory, so this must be a consumer paid recall. Which should be against the law. If you make a faulty part that fails you should pay for it. Just ask Toyota, they are.
While my 2006 Aveo was facing out from a driveway to enter a four lane road, with my foot on the brake, the engine suddenly began to race wildly, the car bucked, I put more pressure on the brake. I shut the engine down and restarted it; the engine continued to race. I repeated this and waited longer before restarting; this time the engine was at a normal idle. Considering everything going on; I thought you should be made aware.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to stop the vehicle, the vehicle was bouncing. The contact also stated the key had gotten stuck inside the ignition switch. The contact called the local dealer and was informed that the failure could be attributed to driver's error. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo. While driving approximately 50 mph the driver struck a deer in the roadway. The vehicle spun out of control. He then gained vehicle control, and pulled over to the side of the road and exited the vehicle. Suddenly, the vehicle engulfed into flames without warning. The fire department and police were called to the scene. There was minor injury sustained. The vehicle was completely destroyed. The vehicle was towed to a collision center. The cause of failure has not been determined at this time. The failure and current mileages were 36,000.
