Battery Cable problems of the 1996 Chevrolet Blazer

Three problems related to battery cable have been reported for the 1996 Chevrolet Blazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Battery Cable problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2003

Twice, 2 different batteries have leaked acid from the positive terminal melting the battery cable. Both batteries were ac delco/part no. 19001628. 2nd battery was installed 01/12/00. Ph.

2 Battery Cable problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2001

Battery leaked acid onto 4 wheel drive cable. Front wheel drive failed. Cable had corroded actuator cable. Caused cable to break. Failure occured on trip to mountains. Had to get chains to get out of snow. It cost 203. 13 to replace actuator cable and 226. 61 to replace battery cable and battery. Battery was only one year old. Service manager said they have similar problems with delco batteries. Same problem has already been reported to NHTSA. Reference odi id 554064,724743,717883,885560.

3 Battery Cable problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2000

The positive battery cable of the ac delco battery was leaking acid, consumer disconnected the negative terminal and acid flowed out, the leaking acid deteriorated the wiring harness. Nlm.
