Eight problems related to brake abs warning light have been reported for the 1996 Chevrolet Blazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer. There were problems with the abs system. A loud squeaking noise came from the brakes , and when the brake pedal was pressed the noise became louder. There was extended stopping distance that was caused by the abs. Also, the abs light illuminated until the back brake pads and cylinders were replaced. This remedied the abs light from being illuminated, but the consumer was still hearing the loud squeaking noise, and was still having extended stopping distances. While the brakes were being repaired the second time the brake specialist referred him to general motors for the brake problem. There is recall 99i006000 safety improvement campaign for this year, make, and model of vehicle, for the service brakes, hydraulic: anti lock brakes. However, this vehicle is not included due to VIN.
Abs braking light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. While applying the brakes pedal went to the floor. A banging noise was heard coming from the front. Vehicle drove roughly. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer. Mechanic determined that both front driver's side and passenger's side ball joints, and abs module needed to be replaced.
While applying the brakes vehicle will skid and make a knocking noise coming from driver's side tire. Abs braking system light appeared on the dashboard.
Abs light was illuminated when vehicle was taken to the dealership for service of recall campaign 99v193000. When consumer took possession of vehicle abs light was still illuminated on instrument panel. Dealership informed consumer not to worry about the light. When brakes were applied the pedal was normal; however there was extended stopping distance which resulted in a collision. Vehicle is at dealership. Please provide further informationdditional information / documentation.
Brakes seemed mushy when short stop required. Had brakes checked and they checked out ok. Shortly thereafter the abs light came on. Dealer determined that the abs sensor module was bad and had to be replaced. How a sensor could cost over $1000 seemed ridiculous. This coincides with campaign 99i006000. Can I be reimbursed for this repair?.
While driving vehicle about 10 mph consumer stepped on the brake pedal to stop vehicle, but vehicle did not stop. With no brakes and the abs light caming on, indicated that the abs brakes had problems. The vehicle is being taken to dealer for rapairs. Manufacturer was contacted and they said: they will open a file about the problem.
Abs warning light illuminated on the dash panel. This light is on because of a bad control module. Dealer has been contacted.
Vehicle was put in for recall on abs system. A short time later, the abs light came on again. Was returned to the dealer and was checked again. Some time later the light was going on again and was brought back to the dealer. They hoocked it up to the computer and they said there were at least 10 different codes in the system and they would need to start with the first thing and work through to find out the problem. The light seems to go on when the truck is in reverse and when you step on the brake hard at 5 mph then put it in drive it seems to go out. Is there a way that this can be checked out without the truck being taken for a week or is it the whole computer system that is faulty?.
