Brake Disc problems of the 1996 Chevrolet Blazer

Eight problems related to brake disc have been reported for the 1996 Chevrolet Blazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Disc problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2001

Consumer took vehicle in for a brake service, and asked for a rotation of tires. Dealership informed him they could not rotate tires or perform a front end alignment because all of front ball joints were worn out. A Chevrolet dealership mentioned that this could be the result of a bad design. Consumer also had front brakes replaced, consumer also had to replace all four tires due to ball joints.

2 Brake Disc problem

Failure Date: 09/07/1999

Abs brake sensors have been coming on and off for years but the dealer could not find the problem. We have been operating the vehicle on regulars brakes off and on since we purchase the motor vehicle. The dealer did not tell use that their was a problem with the abs brake system on the Chevrolet Blazer until we read of the recall on the 1996 Blazer.

3 Brake Disc problem

Failure Date: 06/01/1999

Front brakes are fading due to excessive wear.

4 Brake Disc problem

Failure Date: 05/25/1998

Everytime the brakes are applied a loud grinding noise occurred. The front brake pads were woren down completely with no indication. Repair shop replaced rotors and pads.

5 Brake Disc problem

Failure Date: 01/06/1998

Premature brake failure on right side front. Brake pad frozen to caliber causing continuous wear. Replaced under warranty by dealer at 24,000 miles. Same occurred at 38,000 miles, 13 months and 14,000 later. This seems to be a common problem among owners of this vehicle as reported to automobile clubs.

6 Brake Disc problem

Failure Date: 10/01/1997

While applying the brakes, it would make squealing noises. Took to dealer & informed the front brake pads are gone & rotors need turning. Stopping distance is longer when putting on the brakes.

7 Brake Disc problem

Failure Date: 01/01/1997

Consumer had to replace brake shoes/rotors approximately 4 times since she has owned vehicle. First replacement occurred when vehicle had less than 11,000 miles on it. Last occurrence involved replacement of front brake pads and rotors at 59,189 miles.

8 Brake Disc problem

The front wheel brake locks up without warning which almost resulted in a collision on five occasions, on one occasion both wheels locked up causing replacement of all components due to failure.
