3 Defogger Heater problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 01/22/2004

I own a 2001 chevy Blazer. Lost heat in Jan. 2004. Took it to dealer. They flushed the system and replaced thermostat. 3 to 4 weeks later the same thing . They cleaned out filter. 30 days later it happened again. They said the filter was clogged again. As the weather warmed up I didn't need the heat. As the colder weather approached again, used the heat 2 times and the 3 rd time the heater core went out completely. When I returned to the dealer there were about 10 other Blazers there for the same reason. They say it is our problem now. Now without heat and have to keep air conditioner on and still smell coolant inside the vehicle. If there is that many vehicles with the same problem then , I would say it was defective parts used. To replace the part is almost $200. And with labor over $600. To have to put out that kind of money on vehicle that is only 3 years old is wrong for consumers. To leave it unattended could be a health hazard, with coolant entering the inside of the vehicle.

5 Defogger Heater problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 11/10/2003

1997 chevy Blazer has been taken to bob Chevrolet in columbus ohio for back flush of heater core due to no heat for defrosting windows. This has been done twice. Vehicle has been taken to a local sunoco station due to no heat. Had themostat replaced. After that it heated up a short while but not to the point of doing the job during colder nights. I finally took it to a local garage and they said it needed a heater which costs me $500 to replace which I had to have done. I have a couple of friends that have had the same problem with there Blazers and the heater cores going bad. I think this is an issue and should be looked into. No wonder people buy non american crafted autos. I don't think if so many people with the same type of vehicles are having the same problems that gm should get away with this. Please advise. Thanks, scott bever.

6 Defogger Heater problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 10/06/2003

The heater core in my 1999 Chevrolet Blazer has been replaced five times. The heater core problem causes a significant safety risk. When failing, the heater core clogs and then eventually bursts spilling boiling hot water into the Blazer. The radiator and all of its contents drain into the front interior of the Blazer. The steaming hot water places me and my family in danger of being severely burned. I have been very lucky to date, in that the heater core has not burst with my children in the car. So far, I have been able to get the vehicle to the side of the road and quickly get out of the vehicle before I am burned. Additionally, when the heater core bursts the Blazer fills with steam and the chemicals contained within the radiator. The steam and chemicals make it virtually impossible to see and impairs the driverã‚s ability to get all passengers and the vehicle out of harms way. I have been very lucky to date in that I have been able to quickly get the Blazer off of the road. I wonder everyday whether the heater core will burst and cause an accident that harms my children, myself or someone else. Due to the significant safety risk of the Blazer I am very uncomfortable driving it and will not drive it long distances. I feel unsafe with my children in the car and I have coached my children on what to do if it bursts and often force them to sit in the back seat. When driving on the freeway I always stay in a lane that allows easy access to the shoulder so I can quickly get off of the road when necessary. The heater core problem poses a significant safety risk to me and my family. If, general motors refuses to re-purchase my Blazer from me, I will hold general motors responsible for any and all injuries and accidents caused by the ongoing heater core problem. I believe general motors to be a responsible company, one that is not willing to put myself or my family at continued risk of being severely burned or involved in a motor vehicle accident.
