The contact owns a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer. While driving 60 mph, the windshield wiper blades stopped working without warning. The failure occurred intermittently. The windshield wipers were previously repaired by the dealer on two occasions. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.

Intermittent windshield wiper. Fault due to faulty circuit board which fixed problem. Gm was aware of defect but refused to guarantee repair on this make and model since they only covered up to year prior to 1998.

Winshield wipers work when they want to. Intermittent control is inoperable except at highest setting and usually shuts off completely during heavy down pours.

Gm has a safety recall on my 1996 Blazer that they will not honor for me. They have indicated the recall was a long time ago and my car is 10 years old. I had the exact problem for the last 5-6 years or more, but never received a notice, and never got it fixed. I was aware of the problem and took measures and limited my driving when it might be a problem. I felt comfortable with the problem as low risk when I drive. Now I am selling the car as is. I feel there could be a safety hazard if someone else is driving that is not as aware and cautious as I am. The recall is the windshield washer motor is intermittent. Sometimes the wipers won't work. This has been scary in a down pour and when a passing car splashed a muddy wave on the windshield while I was driving in traffic. I have been using rain-x or driving my wifes car when it is raining. I have had the car in to the dealer a couple of times after the recall and even had them look at it once. They never notified me of the recall. This is a gm recognized safety issue that they should correct (at least once) regardless how old my car is. A the original owner, I should have the right to one free repair, and can cash it in anytime. Please let me know if you can help me. Otherwise will notify whoever I sell the car to, and hope they don't have an accident.

I am having the same problem that many other Blazer owners have with the windshield wipers. As the other complaints explain, they turn off after minutes of use, and sometimes will turn right back on, but usually stay off for a while.

I recently purchased a 1997 chevy s-10 Blazer. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that the windshield wipers would work sporadically, and sometimes not at all. I researched this issue and found on different internet forums that others had an issue with this too. I then did a recall search and found nothing under 1997 chevy Blazer, however, under 1997 chevy s-10 (my Blazer is the s-10 model) a recall pertaining to exactly what I am experiencing (NHTSA campaign id number: 03v159000). I then proceeded to contact my local Chevrolet dealer, and with no avail, was told that my particular model was not included. So I then contacted Chevrolet directly, and again was told it was not subject to this particular recall. In the recall summary, it states "on certain minivans, pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles. " I would like to have this matter taken care of without any financial impact on my part. Obviously I am experiencing exactly what the recall states.

The windshield wipers worked intermittently. The vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer. The failure mileage was 20,000 and current mileage was 57,000.

The consumer experienced the same problem as indicated in the recall; however the vehicle identification number and model year was not included in the recall.

My 1998 Blazer had a wiper failure during the first rainstorm of the California year yesterday. Fortunately, I was off the freeway and only a mile or two from home. The wipers would not work. This morning, they did. I saw that this is a frequent problem with the 1998 Blazer.

The windshield wipers work when they want to, they quit at anytime then start working again then quit. There is no delay, low, or high they work on what ever level they want to. I have called local dealers and there is a recall for other models of vehicles except for 1998 for the same reason. ( it is going to cost $200. 00 plus to fix) I went off the rode today on a major highway because of the wipers stopping in a down pour. This needs to be address as I see I am not the only one with this problem.

Same complaint as documented in Chevrolet s10 Blazer recall 03023 but that is limited up to and including 1997 and my vehicle is a 1998. . . . .

My 1999 chevy Blazer front windshield wipers turn on and off intermittently. They also change speeds on their own. When using the wiper fluid, the wipers continue to run indefinitely.

Erratic windsheild wiper blades on my 1997 Blazer s-10. The wipers will not come on sometimes unless the wiper arms are moved by hand. When that happenes, it is difficult at times to get them working. There was a recall on the wipers for the 1996 balzer and the 1997 s-10. My vehicle has the exact same wiper system as both of the recalled vehicles. My vehicle needs to be recalled and repaired.

The consumer's front windshield wipers are not working properly. Only the driver's side wiper works and it gets stuck in the middle of the windshield when used. Sometimes the consumer has to stop, exit the vehicle and touch the wipers to get them to work properly.

While driving in the rain the windshield wipers stopped working. Manufacturer stated there were too many miles on the vehicle to make the repairs at no cost. Recall campaign: NHTSA item number: 10001125. The consumer referenced campaign number 03v159000.

1998 Chevrolet Blazer windshield wiper failures 1) wiper operation has been intermittent and does not always function when wiper controls are exercised. Occurrence of this problem has been ongoing since this vehicles' initial purchase in 12/97. 2) wiper failure has resulted in unsafe driving conditions and near collisions with other vehicles. 3) initial investigation has deemed potential causes of failure to be cracked solder joints in wiper motor circuit module and/or defective wiper control switch. Corresponding corrective action is replacement of both: wiper motor circuit module and wiper control switch.

The winshield wipers have a mind of their own. Sometimes they work and sometimes they only work on the highest speed. I've been told that no recall is available for this year. This is one of many reasons to buy a Honda or a Toyota.

Windshield wipers did not work. The consumer call gm and they indicated there was no recall. There was one on the same vehicle a year older. The consumer has had problems with the wipers for 6 months and now they don't work.

I own two 1998 Chevrolets; one is a Blazer, the other an s-10 pick-up. The windshield wipers in both fail periodically. I see that Chevrolet issued a recall for this defect in 1998, but it only covers through 1997 models. Shouldn't this apply to my vehicles?.

While driving, in inclement weather, the windshield wipers failed to come on. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic placed the vehicle on a diagnostic machine, but the problem could not be duplicated.

While driving in inclement weather, the windshield wipers came on when the driver turned the windshield wipers on high speed. Dealer was aware of this problem. Dealer informed the consumer that vehicle was not covered under recall.

Front windshield wipers work fine if turned on at the first indication of rain. They continue to do so no matter how severe the rain. But when vehicle is stopped and ignition is turned off and the ignition is again turned on and it is still raining the windshield wipers on the front will not turn on.

My windshield wipers are not working. There is a short in the wiring or something because the motor will run but the wipers won't move.

Defective windshield wipers on 1997 Chevrolet Blazer. The consumer received a letter in the mail which stated the windshield wipers were possibly defective and the repair should be done by Feb. 24,3004. The consumer missed the deadline and was told also that the vehicles mileage was over 70,000 miles.

My windshield wipers only work part time. They may come on and work for a short time and then stop without warning or not come on at all.

Windshield wipers on 1998 chevy Blazer again failed to work during a rain shower. Forced me to pull over to side of road to wait for rain to subside. I don't understand why this still is not a safety recall considering earlier model Blazers were recalled for the same exact problem.

Intermittent wipers stop working. Sometimes they like ad, meaning: one wipe, pause, 2 wipes, pause, 3 wipes, pause, 4 wipes, pause, the back to 2 wipes and counts back up. My theory is maybe a capacitor(s) have gone bad?.

Windshield wipers malfunctioned and/or stopped.

After purchase from dealer we noticed the wipers would not stop in the off position but they worked full-time. About 5 months ago they proceeded to work intermitinly and we could sometimes get them started by raising the arms up and down manually and now they barely work at all. Last incident we were in a downpour and they won't come on at all even if we try moving the blades up and down with our hands. Since that time, once again we can sometimes get them to move. This could cause an accident in our opinion.

The mechanic determined that the windshield wiper motor module needed to be replaced. There was a recall on other gm vehicle, however this year vehicle was not included.

Wipers work only when they want. Last 2 evenings, out of town, very late, middle of major storms. . . No wipers! happens all the time. But, when I want to wash my windshield. . . They work!.
