Coolant temp gauge stuck on cold, ac quits blowing cold air, reads the thermostat code when check engine light comes on. Was told my car needs a new thermostat and a coolant temp sensor. This has proven to be a common issue among Blazers. There is no rhyme or reason when this happens and will fix itself after a while, but then happens again.

I am experiencing the well known "shift to park message" while the shifter is in park. I cannot turn the vehicle off and I am worried the battery will die. This is a well documented issue with this vehicle, and several other models outlined in TSB 19-na-206, for years and yet they refuse to issue a recall to repair the faulty design or component . I have reached out to them via email, but no action has been taken, see email below. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- gm customer care, I am writing to request assistance regarding an issue with my 2020 chevy Blazer VIN# [xxx] . This is my fourth new gm vehicle, and while it is currently outside the 36-month warranty period, the vehicle has only 18,800 miles on it. Recently, the vehicle began displaying a persistent "shift to park" message on the driver information center, despite the gearshift being in the park position. As a result, the vehicle remains in the on position and cannot be turned off. This is a well-documented issue affecting several gm models, including the Blazer, acadia, malibu, traverse, and volt. For reference, please see TSB 19-na-206 attached. Repair costs for this issue appear to vary widely, sometimes exceeding $1,000 depending on location and dealership. Given that this appears to be a known design or component issue, I do not believe this should be an out-of-pocket expense for the customer. As a long-time gm customer, I respectfully request that gm cover the cost of this repair. I am disappointed that there has been no proactive recall or service campaign, especially considering the volume of customer complaints reported online. Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to your response and hope gm will stand behind its products in this matter. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Midway home I got a message on my dashboard “steering assist reduced - drive with care”, but my power steering was still functional. I parked my car in the driveway, shut it off, and the cooling fans started blowing excessively. This continued for 5-ish minutes before shutting off on its own. Then I noticed that the engine temp gauge wasn’t working. Unsure if this is a problem with the thermometer or the sensor currently.
"shift to park" message appears when parked (even if safety brake is engaged) and attempting to turn off the vehicle. The vehicle does not turn off and remains running for various periods of time. Unable to turn the vehicle off, leaving it unsecure and drains the battery. This happens consistently. I contacted my local dealership and they confirmed getting several of these reports through their shop, but no recall has been made.
The temp gage stays on cool. Ac does not work and the radiator fan stays on after car shuts off. Dealership finds nothing wrong.
My check engine light came on (solid) and my ac stopped blowing cold air and my auto start stopped working. I used a diagnostic tool to read the code and it said "p0128 coolant thermostat $07e8". The same thing happens with my heat when it gets too cold out.
Blazer was brand new purchase, I have experienced the following issues so far (several issues appear to be common based on internet searches): 1. Oil pan replaced 4 years 2. Thermostat replaced around same time, this impacted steering 3. Today I replaced a transmission seal for $600, looks like a recall was issued on bolts, my VIN was not in population 4. At todays appointment was told the radiator is leaking and I will need a new radiator.
Action required: steering assist is reduced drive with care & check engine light comes on after the alert message. When these are on, the ac does not get cold. Unhooking the battery resets it for a few days and then it comes back on.
In March 2025 a steering assist reduced warning came on briefly. Over the next several weeks intermittent. April 2025 engine warning light came on. 4-14-25 went to toddwenzel Chevrolet for diagnosis to be told the thermostat needs to be changed and due to a small amount of crystallization on the radiator that as well. I had just had oil changed and fluid levels topped off that morning at parkway express who did not identify concerns. 4-15-25 brought to parker brake who diagnosed and identified there was a glitch that prompted the warning and they can tell that fired when not driving, temp 125degrees. "it may have been parked cooling down". They noted not need for additional service. Thermostat fine and no evidence of radiator leak. They cleared codes/engine warning. After about a week experiencing intermittent assist reduced warning again. I am understanding that this is a known problem w/ these Blazers and changing thermostat for many does not work. Where does this leave me? gm needs to help with the cost and figuring this out. I am concerned about sudden failure of something while driving that could be unsafe for myself/others.
"driver assisted reduced use drive with care message" comes on when it is over 70 degrees outside. The temperature gage reads zero, a/c does not work, when the car is turned off the fan runs on high for an extended period of time. Showing code p0128 used car purchase, came on 3 days after receiving vehicle from the dealership. Reset the code came on again 2. 5 weeks later (5/3/2025) when the outside temperature was in the 70's.
The thermostat and the sensor for the thermostat continues to go bad.
Consistent Blazer issue. Error coded “steering assist reduced. Please drive with care”. There is a thermostat issue. Causing the car to sputter and not run properly. This a common issue with Blazers and a manufacturer default. Should be recalled and covered. It is a safety issue.
Steering assist is reduced driver with care.
On Saturday, March 8, 2025 I was crossing a busy intersection when my car shut off completely and accelerated into oncoming traffic almost causing a collision or fatality. My brakes locked and steering wheel locked. I had to put the emergency brake on in order for the car to come to a stop. We got out of the car in the middle of the street and ran for safety. Scariest experience I’ve ever been in especially with my family in the car!!.
1). Engine stopped on interstate hiway with just 2024 miles. Towed to chevy dealer. New engine installed. Upon return of car emission system failure. 2) car delivered with defective windshield with major (crackle) throughout very distracting at sunrise/sunset. Replacement not much better.

Vehicle is available upon request. 5/28/23 tires needed replaced, not even 30,000 miles on car. Customer was charged. 6/13/23 struts and mounts replaced at dealership 3/29/24-revs high when barely touching pedal. Turned car off and it started back up on its own. Happens at least once a week. Dealership was unable to recreate. 4/1/24- wheel bearing replaced, customer was charged. April 2024 black metal showing through white paint. Paint was thin and fading. Dealership repainted the 2 doors that had paint issues. 12/20/24- antifreeze level was at bottom of reservoir. Sloshing noise when driving. Was told air in hoses and will work it's way out. Was back at dealership 1/15/25, 1/24/25 & 2/5/25. Radiator fluid still dropping but even with dye test they can't figure out where it's going. Terrified it's going to effect the water pump and engine.
Nothing necessarily happened, but I've been getting the "steering assist reduced, drive with care" pop up, which assist I've been reading might mean a faulty thermostat. Sounds like a common issue and may e time for a recall? only 60k miles on my Blazer.
“shift to park”message appears when I shift to park and turn car off.
Common issue, the steering assist is reduced and temp gauge is stuck on c. This either a thermostat or temp sensor issue.
There's a glare from the dashboard that's reflecting on the windshield and causing an obstruction to road visibility.

P0128, ac not working, steering assist reduced, and temp gauge not working. Problem caused by faulty ect wiring. First the problem is the ect is a two wire (signal + and -) 26 gauge wire running through the ignition coil wire harness. Ignition coil signals are very high voltage and fairly fast frequency which causes a lot of emi which is easily picked up on a 2 wire voltage based wire set. The ect wiring should have been a twisted shielded pair if running next to coil wiring or they could have used a single wire resistance thermistor, but they should have just routed the signal a different way to begin with. This is a design issue and it should be a recall. . . Maybe a class action lawsuit is needed to force them to fix it correctly. The fsb (field service bulletin) fix blames loose connector terminals and it patches the computer software to not include ect wire failures in the steering, ac, and temp gauge inhibit logic (overtemp readings will still fail off these functions). Also the p0128 code can come back occasionally.
I am having a problem when I shift my car into park to stop the car it will shut the engine off, but it will not shut off the accessories, and I have to restart the car and tried over and over again until it shuts off. Also the dash lights up to shift the car to park, but I already have.
P0128 code- assisted steering fault check engine light ac blowing cold temp gauge flat lined need to replace temp sensor and thermostat. Others with this issue have reported steering can completely lock up, which could cause serious accidents which could result in fatalities.
Yesterday I received a message saying driver assist reduced. Today received the same message, and heard a whirring noise when car was started.
When putting the vehicle into park, we are receiving a “shift to park” error. This issue appears to be common among thousands of general motors vehicles. However, the dealership is unable to assist us because the repair bulletin only applies to the 2019 model year and does not include the 2020 model year. Despite this, the issue we are experiencing is identical to the one reported for the 2019 model.
My 2019 Blazer gave a steering assist warning on 2 Nov 2024. I was aware of a recall for other Blazers but for some reason my VIN was not among those recalled. I took it to the dealership on 6 Nov 2024. The dealership has determined that the issue is indeed the same issue with those other Blazers that have been recalled but refuses to include my car in the recall because the VIN number wasn't originally among that recall. I was told that the car needed anew temperature gage and that they would have to order it, however, the component was available outside of the dealership. I paid for the diagnostics and the part, being told that the light(s) would stay on, I would still be able to drive it and that I would receive a call when the part came in. It is my understanding that the steering assist reduced can affect the power steering and essentially revert back to manual power steering, potentially causing a loss of control while driving and increasing the risk of accidents. There were no warnings of the steering failure assist warning. It just appeared on Nov 2, 2024 at 1130am. About 1240pm I noticed that the temp gage was inop and the check engine light was now illuminated. I contend that because gm has already identified the thermostat issue serious enough to do a recall, then all Blazers with that recall issue, VIN number aside, should be given the same consideration and not have to pay for something that gm has already taken responsibility for. The dealership however does not agree for the simple fact that the VIN was not identified in the original recall.
Steer assist and thermostat issue. The vehicle has 42,000 miles on it. Have not been able to obtain/find a new thermostat since November 2024.
My check engine light is on the, the temperature meter is stuck on cold, the a/c only blows hot air, and the engine fan is blaring loud as heck the moment the car is started. Also it keeps telling me the steering assist has failed. I have replaced the battery and checked the coolant. Still the same issues.
While my wife was pulling into park the car and pressing the brake, the car all of a sudden accelerated into the building. Pressing the brake failed to stop the car. No person was in the way of the car so no one other than my wife was at risk of injury. The problem has not been reproduced since the car was totaled. The car was inspected by the insurance for loss but that was it. Police and manufacturer have not inspected the car. No warnings were presented prior to the accident.

Steering assist reduced message comes on and temperature guage goes down to cold not working and after you shut car off fan runs full force for 10 minutes. Shows no check engine light or no codes.
The vehicle is not recognizing the car is in park when it is placed in park.
2020 chevy Blazer - shift to park while gear is already in park: while putting the gear in park, the warning chime to shift it into park is initiated. It has happened 3 to 4 times in the past three days. I took the vehicle to the local chevy dealership. The service team/dept. Diagnosed that the transmission shifter unit assembly must be replaced. The 2019 chevy Blazer had these issues which prompted a TSB/recall however it wasn't extended to the 2020-year models and chevy dealership refused to include it as a warranted repair which just passed 44,000 miles. This is a safety issue, and it should be replaced without additional cost to customer as this issue was already identified as a safety concern in 2019, however chevy does not want to identify the issue as a covered repair per the manufactures warranty.
After I shift into park and press the button to turn my vehicle off, I receive a message on the dash that states "shift to park" and my vehicle will not turn off. This has happened on several occasions, but does not happen every time I attempt to turn my vehicle off. When I do receive the message, I usually have to restart my vehicle and move the shift out of park and back into park before I can turn the vehicle off. Sometimes, I am able to get the error message to go away by jiggling the shift.
When car is put in park and cut off the vehicle doesnt recognize its in park and a light comes on saying “shift to park”. I have to keep pushing gear shift forward repeatedly even though its in park already. The car will not fully turn off till this error message is cleared. Ive had the car checked multiple times and the dealership states there is no code registering for this problem so they cannot fix problem so I cant get it fixed. Ive researched this and it is a known issue for multiple chevy models. Service mgr also stated its s known issue in multiple models.
