1 Brake Sensor problem of the 2001 Chevrolet C1500

Failure Date: 11/21/2009

On a Saturday 11/21/2009 I was driving my 201 Chevrolet silverado {59,021 miles} down a dirt incline which leads to a pond. When I applied the brakes ,there were no brakes at all, and I keep going while my foot was holding the brakes down , until my truck's front tires were in the ponds water. As I entered the water the brakes finally took hold and I stopped. It was a beautiful clear day without any ice or snow. This is the second time it has happened~ the first was about 11/2003 I was having brake problems {the brakes would chatter when applied}so I brought the truck to a Chevrolet dealer to ck. The brakes this was on 12/01/2003. The service department called a few days later and said the mechanic had a accident with the truck, he was bring it into the garage and he had gone right through the closed garage doors because of a brake failure. The dealer at this point called general motors and reported the problem with the brakes {not stopping & going through the closed doors}damage was done and they had to replace the bug deflector, bumper cap , front grill & repaired and painted the hood. They also replaced the ~wheel sensors ~telling us that this was the problem. We had no use of the truck for about 6wk. The truck was returned to us without charge. Were afraid to drive this truck now fearing someone will be injured or killed because we are never sure when this brake failure will happen again. We have called gm they made an appointment with a Chevrolet dealer but they refused to pay for the diagnostic test to confirm the brake failure .

2 Brake Sensor problem of the 2002 Chevrolet C1500

Failure Date: 10/10/2007

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet C1500. While driving 5 mph and approximately 3 feet away from another vehicle, the brakes were applied, but the vehicle continued to move forward. The contact stated that the brakes made a very loud noise before the vehicle stopped. The vehicle has not been inspected by a repair shop. The brakes and both sensors were replaced approximately two years ago. The engine size was unknown and the VIN was invalid. The current and failure mileages were 35,600. Updated 11/6/07.

3 Brake Sensor problem of the 2002 Chevrolet C1500

Failure Date: 03/12/2005

Complaint ref # 10089651 on Mar 12,2005 I had a failure of the abs brake system that resulted in a complete brake failure! I stopped the vehicle by turning off the ignition. The failure was in a parking lot at slow speed. I had the same type of failure on Aug 3,2004. I reported it to the NHTSA at that time. Last Aug gm ok'd a warranty fix by using service built. # 02-05-006a-(Nov 26,2002). At that time there was damage to the front of the vehicle due to running into a fence. After complaining, they agreed to pay for fixing the damage. Now back to the present failure. The dealership said the problem this time was the wheel hub assemblies which the abs sensors are attached. Contacting gm, I told them I believed the repair should be covered under the warranty even though my mileage was 36,500. They said it would not be covered under warranty because it was 3 months and 500 miles over the warranty. I did not agree with them as I see this as a continuation of last August's problem and that it wasn't fixed correctly at that time. I had the truck fixed and paid the $631 myself. I am contacting you because I believe there is an abs brake problem with the vehicle that is not peculiar to my vehicle but no doubt is widespread. I know you do not have an investigation at this time but I think there should be? the fact that there is a bulletin on it tells me it is happening to other vehicles! my vehicle is a 2002 chey silverado full size pick up. It is not 4 wheel drive and is a C1500. Veh id # is 1gcec14w42z1632603. Thank you for your help. Norman thomas.

4 Brake Sensor problem of the 2000 Chevrolet C1500

Failure Date: 01/01/2003

Whenever I apply my brakes normally, the anti-lock brake system engages when the vehicle speed decreases to approximately 6 mph. This causes the brake pedel to lock and the vehicle continues forward until it rolls to a stop or it hits somthing. I have already hit several cars and rolled through many intersections. Eventuly someone is going to get hurt. I have searched many websites and found this to be a very common problem caused by dirty wheel hub sensors due to a manufactures design flaw. The dealers often mis-diagnos or scam customers into new abs computers and other expensive solutions. The best solution is to pull the abs fuse for the abs control module but this makes the vehicle unable to pass state inspections. Motor vehicles with this condition are a safety hazard and often unreported. Prevention cannot be accomplished by normal owner maintainence and manufacturers should be held responsable.

5 Brake Sensor problem of the 2003 Chevrolet C1500

Failure Date: 01/01/2003

Anti-lock brakes on my 2003 Chevrolet silverado pickup VIN # 1gcek14x332193001 do not work at low speed. I have had this truck back to the dealer in somerset PA where I bough it and they have failed to repair it. The first time they said that was the nature of anti-lock brakes and did nothing. The second time after I almost wrecked the truck they cleaned the abs sensors and said that was all they could do. The problem is still there. I wanted them to unhook the anti-lock brakes but they would not do that. This all took place over the last two years. Now gm is recalling 1998-2002 silverado pickup for anti-lock brake problems but not my 2003 truck. My truck was built in 2002 and I bought it in 2002 but it is a 2003 model. I believe this truck should be recalled and repaired before I get hurt. If gm can't repair this truck they should give me a new one. I only have 8,700 miles on this truck and I bought it for bad winter roads and I am afraid to drive it because you can't stop at slow speed on snow or ice roads.

6 Brake Sensor problem of the 2000 Chevrolet C1500

Failure Date: 06/12/2002

'the pads rusted to the rotors, destroying the rotors. I had to have all the rotors and pads replaced. Since then have had to replace the pads and rotors two more times. I've also had to replace the rear calipers and the backing plates at less than 100,000 miles. I've had to replace the abs sensors and grease boot s on the front axels. Replaced the universal joint, the four wheel drive switches twice, the power window mechanisms, the tail gate straps and the lever--which isn't working right again, the gas tank strap, rusty fuel lines and brake lines, and the differential cover that rusted out. Also the air conditioning pulley.
