39 Steering problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 05/12/2022

I was leaving the gas station when a message showed up on my dash saying "service power steering drive with care" my steering wheel got very hard and I had a very hard time turning the steering wheel to the right or left, somehow I manged to leave the store. I was really worried for my safety and others because if an accident were to happen I would not be able to turn my steering wheel to get out of the way to avoid a major accident. As I was driving home the message dispersed and the steering wheel went back to normal. I took the car into the dealership and they looked at it and said nothing was wrong with it, when clearly there was a problem with it.

44 Steering problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 03/16/2022

The steering has become hard to turn the vehicle. Vehicle is a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro with a v8 engine. Gm issued service bulletin pic5643d which includes 2013 Chevrolet Camaro equipped with any v8 engine (rpo ls3 or lsa or l99) but when I called gm, they said there are no special actions as the steering doesn't come up under the VIN and recommended filing this complaint with the NHTSA. They could give no information regarding repairs only recommending taking it to a dealer. A quick goggle search reveals gm is aware of the problem but doesn't want to address it unless the NHTSA forces them to do so. Consumers have spent thousands of dollars trying to fix this issue to no avail. Loss of steering has caused some consumers to crash posing a significant danger to society as a whole. Please force gm to address this issue for the safety and security of society as a whole. There is currently a recall for the ignition swich which gm said has nothing to do with the steering issue.

45 Steering problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 03/07/2022

The steering wheel I have for starters, is not the correct one that is suppose to be with the vehicle. It should say “camaro” on the center of the steering wheel instead of having a Chevrolet logo on it. It’s also not symmetrical to the vehicle interior, it’s too big for where it is placed and doesn’t match up with the drive train. It poses a risk because it starts to shake after I go a certain speed and is also wobbly when I first start driving like something is loose inside of it. The seats also are not the original seats that the vehicle came with and have been replaced by idk what brand it is but it’s not a safe one because there are visible wires underneath the seat that aren’t covered and it causes me back pain after driving for the smallest amount of time. I have to reach far back to retrieve my seatbelt and it’s very inconvenient due to the strain it puts on me. I bought the car from this allegiances motors place and they allegedly inspected it and also did a safety inspection but they have not yet provided me with a legal safety inspection sticker and when I went in person about the issues I’m having they said buying was wrong with the vehicle. They coerced me in to signing a paper stating the airbags being deployed were unknown so I’m possibly driving around with no air bags in the vehicle which is highly alarming ne has I do drive with children in the backseat. It seems like all the components are slowly malfunctioning especially when I do not respond to the text messages of the car salesmen I bought the car from. They won’t provide me with any information regarding the air bags and let me know what they’re going to do in regards to fixing the visible wiring problem and ensuring I’m driving around with air bags that haven’t been deployed. Also, when I put my VIN number in the system it showed me a picture of a convertible which is also pictured on the owners manual that came with the car, and it’s not a convertible. It’s just a regular ol coupe.

46 Steering problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 12/16/2021

The power steering shuts of randomly with loss of steering. When I try to turn under this condition, the steering wheel bounces back and forth violently. I have ran into curbs and almost hit other vehicles due to the loss of power steering. There has never been an engine light or warning lamp displayed during the loss of steering while driving the vehicle. There’s no way to have the issue diagnosed without a stored code.

47 Steering problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 10/30/2021

The key will not come out of ignition once car is in park. In the event of an emergency, driver no longer has access to keys, driver is unable to leave car, battery drains (electric issues are already an issue that GMC will not address) and in the event driver is inexperienced at mechanics- this could lead to multifactor injuries. Issue has been reported in other make/models for years, GMC refuses to address issue. In order to bypass this issue, owners must take apart steering column, release the anti-theft wire that enters the seliniod. Dealerships charge hundreds of dollars, sometimes never addressing the issue, to correct this problem. This key drains the electrical system, which will essentially cause complete failure to the car or a fire- which are happening more and more. A parasitic battery drain occurs due to this issue, resulting in consumers attaching trickle charging units (recommended by dealers). Instead of correcting the anti-theft wiring issues along with the switch blade key fob, a single key was issued along with the defective key fob and dealerships are asking owners to replace their "shifting units" to correct the issue of the key not coming out of the ignition. This is a safety issue that will lead to death; a car fire, a home emergency, a mechanical necessity require immediate need for keys, an internal combustion, a car parked in neutral or a car left running to avoid the hassle of not getting the keys out of the ignition.

48 Steering problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 09/28/2021

Power steering locked up and would not allow me to turn.

49 Steering problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 08/21/2021

In the middle of driving, power steering shut off and a notification saying "service power steering" popped up on the dashboard. There were no signs/issues/warnings prior to this happening. Restarting the car didn't fix the issue so the car was taken to the dealer to diagnose the issue, which turned out to be a faulty power steering gear. This exact piece was replaced in Aug 2019 under a recall (NHTSA campaign 19v086. Gm recall n182182760). I believe the recall does not address the issue or I was given a faulty piece. The dealer replaced the part but at my expense. Gm could not give me a reason for why I should be held responsible for a faulty piece even though they stated that the part that needed to be replace is a sealed part and the fault was an internal fault/short. I had no control over damaging the part and the dangers of sudden loss of power steering put me, my passengers, other drivers, and pedestrians at risk. Power was lost in the middle of a rain storm and I needed to drive over an hour with no power steering just to get back home. The difficulty to turn with no power steering was so difficult that I couldn't even parallel park/pull over in a safe manner. I understand parts fail but gm should be held accountable for the faulty parts or properly address the recall from years ago because the "solution" clearly didn't fix the problem.

50 Steering problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 06/16/2021

Steering torque sensor failed when trying to turn into driveway and was put at risk of being rear-ended by not being able to get off of roadway (will only turn so far and no further). It is documented on the internet several times (camaros, corvettes & cadillacs) and when you restart vehicle it resets for anywhere from 5 secs. To 5 min. My vehicle has approximately 21,500 miles on it and should not have this kind of defect. There is a message that comes on when it happens that says power assist disabled. There is no advance warning of occurrence. Dealer wants $1,886. 82 to fix.

Power steering becomes extremely hard as if there is no power steering this happens intermittently. It has almost lead me off the road many times. Dealerships do not find anything wrong. No recall but seems as if it falls under the recent recall descriptions of the problem. I feel uneasy driving this car that I'm paying so much for! it occurs during normal driving conditions driving straight or slowly turning car.

57 Steering problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 09/08/2020

Our 2014 chevy Camaro ss power steering would lock up on us when we were driving and would jerk and we wouldn't be able to steer the car and it was very scary especially when you were going the speed limit on the interstate going 65-70 mph. My husband was coming home from court on 9/8/20 and it was also our 10 year anniversary and it locked up on him and the next thing he knew he was hit by a lady and he was on the side of the road and our car was totaled and he dont even have any recolition of what happened the impact of the lady hitting him knocked him out and he is lucky to be alive he suffered a broke arm and had to have surgery to have a plate and screws put in to repair it and we dont have a vehicle now. We had just purchased the car the end of may 2020. We seen a recall on the steering locking up and the chevy dealer said they couldn't replace it because the VIN number wasn't on recall. How can a vehicle that is doing the same exact thing as the same exact vehicle with a different letter in the VIN not be on recall for the same exact defect? my husband is lucky to be alive and now we are left with no vehicle. Can someone please tell me how this is possible id like to have my vehicle replaced due to this recall that was defective in my vehicle. We have a friend who had the same issue and they told him the same thing about his VIN so he traded his Camaro in for a different vehicle. I would love to have my car replaced or repaired because of this issue/recall. Im uploading a picture of what my Camaro looks like now.

58 Steering problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro

Key constantly gets locked up in ignition after I put in park. I turn it on and off to key key out. Last time I started about three times turned key off tried taking out. Called repair shop said push shift all way in park. Finally came out. Lots of complaints regarding this but didn't see recall.

59 Steering problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 08/20/2020

This is to document and report that I purchased my 2018 chevy camarillo on April 15, 2020 with 18,000 miles. My car accident occurred on August 20, 2020 at approximately 6:15pm. It was a clear evening as I was on my way home from work. I was stopped at the intersection, ready to turn right to catch the freeway entrance. As I proceeded to turn right, from a two lane right turn lane, I released my foot from the brake and began attempting the right hand turn. The steering wheel became drastically harder and ultimately impossible to turn to control causing me to hop the center isle hitting a center divider. A chp officer patrolling the area, who witnessed the accident, confirmed I was not speeding as he noted there were no signs of tread marks to suggests I was speeding. Additionally, no accident report was taken. By pure luck, I did not hit or injure another vehicle or property. I did however, sustain bruising from the airbags deploying, back pain and other aches. I reviewed the history of the chevy cameron's to confirm that although not a recall at the time of my accident, I truly and highly encourage that the 2018s also be looked at for the same recalls issued with the 2016 and 2017 recalls.

63 Steering problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 06/22/2020

My zl1 Camaro has had a electronic steering (eps) failure while I was driving on the road. Apparently, failure of eps is common with the Camaro and gm/Chevrolet has a TSB issued to help deal with this issue. TSB document is pic5643e. I have attached it here. This can has 40,070 miles on it and is in immaculate condition. The Chevrolet dealer just diagnosed this issue, and tried to charge me $2600 for replacing this part. This is a safety item, and it is not possible to drive this car without this steering working. This is also a $60,000 car. No one at Chevrolet is doing anything to help with this issue. I hope this complaint will be helpful to someone in the future.

Upon driving the vehicle, service power steering would randomly flash on the dic multiple times throughout the journey (while slowing down, at a stop and accelerating). Loss of power steering has yet to happen, but seems very imminent. Upon VIN check, the vehicle is not a part of the recall and this seems to be an error.

70 Steering problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

The flip key fob gets stuck every time I park and will not come out for average 15-20 & sometimes it will come out if I move the gear shift to all gears and then put back in park. It doesn't always work though. This was a recall, owners were given a new flat key which I was not, and I do not believe the dealership (classic elite Chevrolet) corrected the recall. This has been an ongoing issue since 2020, after buying the car September of 2018. I was also given 2 key flip key fobs, which one was broken because the previous owner's knee hit the fob and the key broke off. It is obvious this ignition switch issue causing the key to remain stuck in the ignition was never fixed. I have asked for proof that it was fixed and I was told they couldn't provide proof or provide me with the flat keys that were to be provided after the recall. Check engine light comes on randomly, then will go off a day or two days later. I connect my sensor and it says 3 items: 1-high purge flow 2-cylinder 1 misfire detected 3-gm failure recorded. Yet, my car passed all the testing for inspection. I do not believe the dealership corrected any of the recalls that were issued for the 2015 chevy Camaro when I purchased it. I have spent thousands of dollars taking my car into the certified service center to be told, it's basically all in my head, and I know it's not. 100%. I need answers. I need proof. I need to know why the recalls that were "supposedly" completed, have resulted in the same problems still occurring years after the recalls were issued. Below it states to tell the approximate date this incident occurred. I will put the date it started. Please know, that all the issues are still occurring.
