Air Bag Light On Problems of Chevrolet Cavalier

Airbag light comes on at random intervals for about 5 seconds, then turns off. Speed, road conditions, and gear make no difference as to when it comes on. It has come on while turning, while driving in town at 20 mph, while at a complete stop, while going over a bump, and while going 50mph on the highway.

The vehicle was undergoing repair for a minor vehicle accident that occurred on 11/11/04. It was determined that the vehicle had a previous accident and the airbags had been previously removed without being replaced. Diagnostics on the airbag module showed that the airbags had been deployed and were missing. The airbag dash warning indicator also has been disabled somehow. None of these deficiencies were reported at the time of the vehicle purchase. It is uncertain when the original repair was made and by whom. The accident on 11/11/04 was not severe enough for the airbags to deploy. No injuries resulted from the missing airbags.

Vehicle was stopped and the air bags deployed on both passenger and driver sides. The air bag light came on and off the day before. An engineer from gm came and stated air bags deployed because of moisture in the car. The windows were down the night before and rain got in the car. There were two people in the vehicle when air bags deployed, the air bags smashed the windshield. Two passengers sustained injuries, bruises. Owner believed was a police report. Gm was notified and determined that air bags deployed because of moisture. No pictures were available.

Chevrolet Cavalier z 2003, multiple failures. The defroster would not clear the windows, the heater did not work, the air bag light illuminated because there was a split in the center of the steering wheel. When the consumer made a right turn a noise was heard. The left rear turn signal bulb was replaced, the right rear brake light bulb. There was a noise coming from the front of the vehicle, the dealer lubed the front sway bar bushing. The tires were over inflated, so the vehicle would sway when going over bumps, the blower motor, and heater control was replaced. The abs lamp illuminated. The vehicle needed brake pads. There was mold on the drivers front door. The ac compressor was replaced. The window went down extremely slow, the dealer lubed the window track and regulator. The fog light bulb was inoperative, the door latch was inoperative.

While driving at 30 mph, the consumer had a front end collision and neither of the air bags deployed and the seat belt did restrain the driver. No air bag light warning prior to the crash.

My airbag system has been worked on 6 different times and is now flashing the air bag lights again. This is a serious safety issue and should be looked into.

The air bag light came on when vehicle was started after being unused for 1-2 weeks. I took the car in for service and was told of a recall for inadvertant air bag deployment , so I authorized the dealer to do the recall. The dealer then called and said there was a code in the computer telling the air bags to deploy and the computer needed to be replaced before the car should be driven to prevent a possible deployment of the airbags. I was told that even though this fit the recall for inadvertant airbag deployment it was a different problem and would cost around $400 to repair. I then asked the service manager to try and get this fixed by Chevrolet and was told that they would not fix it, but I was given a phone number for Chevrolet to talk to them myself. I called and spoke to steve lefcourt who agreed that my complaint seemed to be what was recalled, but was told the next day that my problem was different than the recall because in the recall they reprogramed the computer,but since my cars computer would not accept the reprograming it needed replacement and they would not pay for it.

Air bag light stayed on while driving. Dealer notified, and unable to resolve problem. Feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

Vehicle's air bag light keeps illuminating on the dashboard. The consumer is very concerned about the air bag light. This is a very harzardous and safety problem. The consumer is suggesting that research be found out about the vehicle or whether or not a recall needs to be done.

While driving vehicle about 60 mph, was dark, noticed deer in road, hit brakes (abs), hit deer on driver's side, front end damaged, heard hissing in dash, air bag light came on, no air bag (driver/passenger) deployment.

Brakes malfunctioned, resulting in extended stopping distance. The dealer informed the consumer the brakes were sensitive. The dashboard was replaced, because the air bag light was on. The dash board lights came on and went off at least twenty two times.

The air bag light illuminated. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer twice for this problem. The dealer has also replaced the air bags three times.

What should I do about these incidents? I have taken my car in 3 times for the high pitch noise in the dash, I have taken it in once for the raddling in the dash, and I am taking it in 8/28/2002 for the airbag situation. When I called preston hood about the airbag the service guy acted like it wasn't a big deal until I told him that I have a wedding in less than a month and if my airbag deploys and leaves bruises I would be really upset. My airbag light keeps going on and off and the car isn't but 2 years old. Help me please my car is falling apart!.
