Air Bag Problems of Chevrolet Cavalier - part 1

Was in a horrible car wreck yesterday and none of my airbag is avoid but yet my no check engine light none of my lights were on so I don't understand the problem you could have nearly killed me is what I got spent around three times and put back at the gas station that I left.

Horn doesn't work. . Replaced fuse still not working. . So I wonder if my air bag will work. . . How do I fix it no body know not even the dealer.

Please call about these problems with these cars, 888-327-4236 is how I think anything will get done, just called today 02-20-15. Gas gauge went out 02-07-15 ( millage 40000) and is hitting against my temp gauge so I don't know how hit my car is getting. I replaced my temp gauge back in 01-07-12 millage(29111) cause it was hitting against my speedometer<--- this was not replaced but I dont think till this day it shows the right speed. Air bags did not work back in 2006 crash no fault of the car then, someone hit me, so dont even know if they will. Called gm about that in 2012 and told me there was nothing that could be done. Forgot to tell kimmy about this problem today. Good luck getting these problems fixed. I have to drive my kids and family around only car I have so I hope something is fixed before we get hurt. And I hope for the ones that fixed these repairs get there money back if they find it to be a issue. .

Daughter was driving to go to another location when stopped for light. Light turned green had some one in front of her and since it is a stick shift she just let the car roll. She panicked I think and hit clutch instead of brake. She rolled into the back of the SUV ahead of her and the airbags exploded in the car. She was only going 4 miles an hour. No damage to the car in front of her no front damage to our car except the air bags and breakage of front window. Daughter was hit in face by airbag and the fingers cut with with the window breaking. She has received 2 black eyes and said she was very disoriented when the airbag hit her. We are very concerned about this. We have had the car for 3 years and have not been in any accidents fontal wise. I went through to see if we had a carfax on this car. The compay told that there had not been in any accidents. My concern is that if I was driving the car I am short and with it being a clutch I have to sit close. So I really would have been hurt. Why would the airbags explode at only 4 miles an hour? please respond soon as this has to be taken care of for the insurance. Thank you.

I was driving on the highway and a driver traveling well under the posted speed limit cut in front of me. I stepped on the brakes and the car started sliding and when I attempted turn the wheel to avoid collision, the wheel was locked and would not turn causing me to hit the car square in the rear. Upon impact, both airbags deployed. Airbags never touched me, but the driver's side cover shattered the windshield and the passenger side cover shattered the passenger window.

Air bags deflated September 9, 2012 while in motion turning a 90 degree bend then braking into road bank on a the side of a country dirt road. An early inspection was handed down from the commonwealth state of pennsylvania on July, 01, 2016. Shortly after the vehicle was involved in auto accident while parked stationary in a parking lot. The Chevrolet Cavalier failed the enhanced state inspection thence after due to air bag safety feature. The car is in fair condition appraised above blue book value and mechanically runs better than it did 4 or 5 years ago. There is a salvage title currently on the motor vehicle. All the vehicle needs is new air bags.

The contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier. The contact was sitting at a traffic stop when her foot slipped off the brake and caused her to lightly crash into the rear of a preceding vehicle. The contact stated there was no damage to either vehicle but the air bags deployed erroneously, causing burns to the contact's hands and face. The contact inquired with the manufacturer regarding NHTSA campaign id number: 98v146000 (air bags) that was supposed to correct the calibration that would have prevented the air bag deployment. The manufacturer advised that the vehicle was repaired previously under the recall, but the repair failed. The failure and the current mileages were 98,000. The VIN was not available.

I replaced the battery on my 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier 2. 4l with manual transmission about 3 days ago. Today as I was driving to get gas the vehicle started to idle low as if it was not getting enough fuel to the engine. As I came to a stop it got worse and then I check the dash for any indication of malfunction only to see my airbag, check engine, abs, check oil & battery lights flickering. Moments later as I shift into 3rd gear it dies rendering all safety and normal operation of the vehicle nearly impossible. I had to call a friend to jump me 3 more times before reaching my home which was less than a mile away!.

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 mph, she attempted to engage the horn, but it failed to function. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who informed the contact that the vehicle needed a new canceling cam. The vehicle was also taken to an independent repair shop and the contact was informed that the vehicle needed a new clock spring assembly. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.

Horn won't blow, had it serviced and they said horn was good. They track the situation back to the air bag/horn connection. Never had an accident in this vehicle. So I don't understand why the horn won't blow. The guy that serviced it , said the connection for the horn is connected to the air bag and I would need a new air bag to possible fix this issue. What could I possible do to get this corrected? it's been like this for a couple of years, I've been worried about this issue and getting more worried about it lately.

My daughter was driving the 2000 cavaleir from church to her college when she stopped at a stop sign and looked left and then right and proceeded through the intersection and failed to see a Chrysler minivan coming from her left. . She braked and the minivan t-boned her car on the left side and her car proceeded to turn 90 degrees to the right for 20 feet and stopped. The most damage occured on the passenger door, to the front tire was pushed in. . . The whole steering wheel assembly was pushed forward. The front passenger was severely injured with severe head trauma and skull fracture. She is presently in a coma. The driver of the vehicle had a concussion,severe lacerations on the back of her head , and bruising on her arms and legs. The third passenger in the rear drivers side had minor injuries.

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier. While driving 40 mph the consumers husband crashed into the back of another vehicle. None of the air bags deployed. The contact suffered injuries to his head, neck and shoulders. The vehicle has not been diagnosed. There were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 81,000. Updated 02/1710 the vehicle was totaled. Updated 02/19/10.

The dashboard cracked and I still have not been able to get it fixed I have learned since then that this is a common problem for the Chevrolet Cavaliers and I worry that if I get into an accident that my airbags wont properly deploy because of the cracked dashboard. Now my windshield fogs up causing visibility issues because of the leaks caused by the cracking.

Horn doesn't work, had it look at by mechanic, he said it had something to do with the airbag. Then had it look at by a steering column mechanic, he said it was the clock spring in the steering column.

1997 Chevrolet Cavalier airbag deployment in low impact accident. Customer states that the airbags deployed in a low impact accident. He believes the manufacturer should pay to have them replaced. The consumer sold this vehicle to his grandson who was involved in the accident. The consumer wrote in on behalf of his grandson. The consumer learned a recall had been issued for the same problem that his grandson experienced.

The contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier. While driving 10 mph, the vehicle crashed into the rear of another vehicle. There was snow on the road. Despite the low impact of the crash, the air bags deployed. There is recall # 98v146000 (air bags) for this failure. The manufacturer stated that this vehicle was excluded from the recall. The contact felt his vehicle should be included in the recall. The current and failure mileages were 110,000. Updated 08/28/07.

Airbags deployed inadvertently while my daughter was driving causing her to hit a tree. Eye witnesses state this as well.

Air bags did not come out car flipped over twice and there was 1 death and 1 injury.

My wife bought a 2000 chev. Cavalier from sound Mazda inrenton a year ago in 2004, the car did not passed emission test, we took it to the mechanic and he informed us that the catalityc converter was not working, the O2 censor was bad and it would be pricy, we took it to a dealership and were going to trade it in, the manager of the dealership pulled a carfax report and he asked us if the dealership had informed us that in 2002 the car was in a wreck and the airbags were deployed, we told him no, when she bought the car none of this was informed to us. We believe that it is unfair for the dealership to not inform us about this, specially because the airbags don't work in the car and they still sold it to us like that.

Consumer experienced problems while having the 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier recall repairs performed. Recall campaign#02v286000. There were problems with the steering mechanism, the ignition and the air bag. The consumer believed that none of the recall repairs were ever made on the vehicle.

The consumer request that the air bags in her 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier be disconnected. The consumer received a doctor not to have the air bag removed. The consumer presented the note to the dealer who in turn faxed the note to the manufacturer. The manufacturer still refused to allow the dealer to disconnect the air bag.

The vehicle was being driven when all of a sudden the air bag deployed on its own unexpectedly. Manufacturer will be notified by consumer.

I was in a very serious car accident where my Cavalier flipped end over end and rolled numerous times. At no time did my air bags deploy. The car was deemed a complete loss. The accident was deemed an act of nature/god. No at fault.

Defective air bags. Dealer was contacted, and vehicle has been at repair shop twice, air bags have been replaced . .

Consumer purchased a vehicle that didn't have an air bag.

Consumer states that the vehicle was involved in a collision which hit a ditch and flip over several time. Driver was thrown out the sun roof and die and the other two passenger received injuries. Dealer and the manufacturer was not notifed at this time. Nlm.

While traveling on the highway without prior warning she veered into another vehicle. Traveling about 30mph the dual airbags didnt go off. Nlm.

The dealer refused to honor the recall for the air bag for almost a year. (recall #98v146000).

Approxiamately 2 months into owning the vehicle the problems started. First the seat belt covers snapped off, I've had to have the steering stabilizers replaced 3 times already, the air conditioner which is rarely used failed at about 55-60,000 miles, the battery busted and leaked on the entire right side under hood, the jack was warped, the gas guage reads incorrectly, the sunroof stopped working after 30000 miles, dash rattles, glove box will not stay closed, pass seat gets stuck when you move it forward, the gas pedal gets stuck and you have to apply more force than usual to get it moving, drivers door does not close all the way, more air than normal comes into vehicle, thermostat failed at 30000 miles, installed sidewinder 6500 car alarm which failed to operate after the battery busted, plus numerous other problems not mentioned here.

Recall 98 v 146 000/air bag deployment: vehicle was repaired in 1998 for this recall. At present, vehicle still experiences an inadvertent deployment while driving under 15 mph. Dealer/manufacturer notified. Feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

Horn actived by itself at non stop until it did not work any more. Then, every night horn used to go off in middle of night. Presently, air bag is showing punctured problems.

Air bag stays on, 3 modules replaced, problem still present. Horn would not work with steering wheel straight, replaced cancelling cam. Ok. Car would not drive straight, replaced steering gear box, ok. A/c rumbles at idle when hot, replaced belt and tensioner, problem still present but not as loud. Dome light stays on, replaced alarm module, ok.

We came here to see if there was any recalls on our car the reason being that it seems that the air bag is not placed correctly and thus it hinders the use of the horn. The majority of the time we can not get the horn to blow. We have had this problem since buying the car.
