I have been having trouble starting my chevy Cavalier. The problem is the theft system. I am a single mother and the chevy place said it would be 400 dollars to fix. I have read that alot of chevy owners have the same problem. Please have this recall. I beg you thanks.
Sometimes I have trouble starting car.
Passlock/theftlock system enables with known key in system preventing the vehicle from starting or shutting down while driving disabling power steering and brake systems. A google search indicates this is a very common problem in all gm vehicles equipped with this system. Gm's attitude is lackadaisical toward this issue at best. Dealers will not disable system and after hundreds of dollars are spent on fixing the problem, it still exists.
Theft system light started flashing and car wouldnt start. Tried to start several times with no success. Disconnected /reconnected battery attempted to start again with no success. Tried to start again several hours later and car started just fine. This has happened approximately 5 times since the first incident occured. Nothing out of the ordinary seemed wrong car drove just fine. There is no link between this happening wether we just drove it or it sat all night it has occured either way. We purchased the car used from a dealer and was never aware of any theft system at all. As far as we know there isnt one in this vehicle.
Sometimes during the initial start-up the car will crank . You have to remove the fuse for the theft-system and disconnect the battery cables and wait at least 30 minutes to let the computer reboot itself. This has happened two times during driving where the car accelerates by itself and then dies. And after you get it started the theft-system warning light stays on. Until you turn the car off and then back on.
