This car will not start. And when it does start it back fires. I have replaced the starter, the flex plate the sensors, and the muffler, and nothing seems to work and no mechanic can tell me whats wrong with. I even went out and bought a car code reader and it says emissions but still no luck.

Speedometer goes haywire so you have no idea how fast you are going. Other gauges (fuel, temp) also erratic. Seems this is a common problem with many gm vehicles and is very dangerous!.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier. The contact stated that the fuel evaporative emission light illuminated. He inspected the vehicle and noticed that the fuel filler tube was covered with rust. An authorized dealer stated that the problem was common because of the road salts used in his particular state. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The current and failure mileage was approximately 83,000. Updated 05/13/11.

While driving on a busy interstate, the engine cut out and I had to coast to side of interstate.
2003 chevy Cavalier stalled while driving. Almost got killed. Just another defect in this car. I keep reporting stuff and no one seems to be listening.
I purchased a 2005 chevy Cavalier November 2004. I am the original owner. As of Dec. 2009 my cars odometer has stopped working and the gas gauge is not accurate. Also my dashboard signals abs, trac off, and the service sign come on simultaneously. These signs come on when I am reversing the car and occasionally while driving the speed limit. These are all issues that are not normal wear and tear on a car but rather a defect. Therefore, I hope someone will look into this issue further.
Fuel gauge doesn't work all the time fuel gauge causes the temp gauge to hang up.
Fuel gauge not working just last month I had to be towed because my gauge showed full also got fuel send through road side service on 2 ocassions I tried to keep track of by writing down my mileage but then the fuel gauge appears to be working for a while.
I have a 2004 chevy Cavalier LS sport. Well lets first start off with my drivers side window motor. It went out about a year and half ago and we fixed it this summer. Apparently it is a huge problem but of course no recall on it so paid almost 300 dollars myself to fix it. Then after that when I would start my car and put it into drive, the car would sputter and the abs and trac off lights would come on. Next about 5 months ago I noticed that my gas gauge was fluctuating a little. Didn't give it much thought but then 2 months ago my temp gauge was going haywire. Called the dealer and they said that there was no recall and we would have to pay to have it fixed. Well we all know money is tight so I have left it. Low and behold late last week, the mph gauge said I was going 100 mph in a 35 zone. I had to take a double look. Dealer again says no recalls. After speaking to a friend, he said that his truck did the same thing along with another CO-workers truck (gm trucks) and that they took it in because it had a recall on the "instrument cluster" and there was no charge. How come Cavaliers are having the problem and nothing, but there trucks have it and there is a recall. I cant tell how fast I am going. Now I am probably going to have to just go with the flow of traffic since I cant afford to fix it. Come on gm own up to all of your mistakes please. . . . . . . . . . There are tons of logged complaints on here about it, obviously it is a real problem gm. This is why we are going foreign with our cars now.
Manual transmission model - problem began @ 35,000 miles, current miles 38,000. Engine rough idles/stalls when clutch is engaged. I was nearly struck by oncoming traffic while turning left when engine stalled after clutch was engaged. Lost power steering and breaks, wound up riding over curb and onto sidewalk before vehicle stopped. Noone was injured, however this was on a college campus in the evening, had it occurred earlier in the day almost certain pedestrian would have been struck by my out of control car. Will be replacing the pump as soon as I can. This is a serious danger to the driver and other drivers on the road.
Car was running fine until I stopped at a four way stop. When it was my turn I tried to take off and to my surprise, my car bogged down and by the time I made it through the intersection I was up to only 15 mph. Glad I did not get hit. It drove fine for 2 miles and when I got home and shut it off, it would no longer run.
I had fuel delivery system problems several months before -- the car died on the freeway twice during heavy traffic. I took the vehicle to a Chevrolet dealership to have it repaired. On June 5, 2008 the vehicle would not start. There was no warning. I had it towed to he dealership where I purchased the vehicle. The estimated cost of repairs is $600.
Fuel pump failure while driving on NJ highway 295. Cost of repair $600. 00.
The car was bought and the recall has caused other problems. So now the car can no longer be used. Please help me in this thank you.
I had purchased brand new Chevrolet Cavalier back in 2003 after 10k or so, it started stalling during driving when the clutch is pressed to change the gear or at traffic stops. This problems repeats every week or so and it is very dangerous as all the power to the steering and brakes is lost. I think this should not be happening to a brand new vehicle. Because of this problem I am never going to buy a gm vehicle again and will not recommend others. I would like gm to fix this for me as it is a major safety concern.
Stalling, hesitating, loss of power, decreasing of horse power.
While driving on the interstate at 60 mph the vehicle ran out of gas although the fuel gauge read 1/2 full. The vehicle was taken to the dealer which stated the vehicle needed a new sensor.
