Ignition Switch Problems of Chevrolet Cavalier - part 2

2000 Chevrolet Cavalier ignition switch recall. The consumer a recall letter in the mail regarding the ignition switch, prior to receiving the letter the consumer was already having problems cranking the vehicle. The same week the vehicle was due to have the recall performed, smoke began emitting from the steering column. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to have the recall fixed, however nine days later smoke emitted from the steering column again. The consumer continued to get the run around as to whether or not problem was recall related.

The consumer was advised that repairing the recall on the ignition system will not correct the problem. The consumer was also told that it would cost to repair.

Consumer complaining about the repair of his 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier vehicle. Recall# 04v036000 (electrical ignition switch) after the vehicle was picked up from repair, the check engine light had come on. The consumer had to wait five hours to have the vehicle repaired.

After making 2 appointments to have the ignition switch recall 04v03600 performed the consumer was informed upon arrival that the parts weren't available. The dealership doesn't know when the parts will be available.

After recall#04v036000 was performed, it was difficult to start the ignition. Please provide more information.

Brakes vibrate when stopping from any speed. Was told by dealer that was common with abs. Brakes wear poorly, have had to replace brakes 2x since purchase. Engine stutters when car first started or while standing. Key hot out of ignition, was told recent recall affecting ignition relay would fix, did not. Check engine service and abs lights coming on and staying on. Car has only 32,000 miles.

Key could be removed from the ignition switch while the vehicle was started. Dealer was notified.

Consumer received recall concerning ignition switch failure. The dealer performed the recall repairs, but before the consumer could get home, the vehicle was having problems. The engine light had also illuminated. The consumer had problems starting the vehicle before the she received the recall. The consumer continued to have problems with the vehicle after the recall was performed, the dealer continued to tell the consumer that they did their part and anything further would cost the consumer.

Safety recall notice 04002 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier. The vehicle was completely destroyed by fire. The consumer stated the circumstances of the fire were identical to the ignition switch recall.

Approximately two months after the dealership performed ignition switch recall 04v036000 repairs the problem recurred.

Having problems with stalling, placed other complaints recently. Steering locking up and fixed more part in vechile, now might be relating to the ignition switch recall, which my mechanic has found was inproperlly placed in car. Called the dealership and since it has been over 1 year and 12,000 miles, they will charge me a labor fee and also the part fee. Could this become any worse gm??????.

I have replaced the ignition switch in my 1998 Cavalier 3 times in the past three years - this is not a cheap endeavor. I know there was a recall on 1995-1997 - but what about 1998?.

My ignition switch recall is a problem and the recall notice says that the internal parts os the switch will melt if held too long in the start position and I have had a problem with my switch. I took it off and apart and found that the internal parts were melted as it says in the notice. My notice says that they were to test and replace the switch if necessary as well as put the addition to the circuit and I did not get a new switch please advise as what to do. All I would like is my switch replaced. I called the Chevrolet 800 customer service number and I did not receive any help. Thank you ted l howard 714-630-3844.

The recall remedy for the ignition switch recall 02 v 070 000 failed. The defect occurred and almost caused an accident.

The recall which was performed on the vehicle failed. Recall # 02 v0 70 000.

I am wondering if the proper recall work was done to my vehicle at koon's Chevrolet. I asked what was required for the campaign # 02v070000 (the ignition switch recall) the mechanic that explained it to me did not use the words relay kit. He described a cable harness to hold wires back.

When attempting to start vehicle ignition switch stuck. Recall 02v070000 repairs were performed, but problem still recurred. Also, while driving the bearing hub produced a grinding noise on the left side. The cause has yet to be determined by the mechanic.

Prior to recall notification, consumers vehicle stalled out on the street. Consumers vehicle was towed to the dealer for the recall repair. Safety recall 02002-s.

The consumer replaced the battery twice in two years before receiving recall o4v036000 notice concerning the ignition switch in March 2004. The owner made an appointment to have the repair work done. The dealer installed a relay kit and recharged the battery. The vehicle was taken home and worked fine for three or four weeks. The owner continued to have problems with the battery draining, and having to jump start the vehicle. The battery was replaced at least one other time in November 2004. The owner talked with the dealer but was unsuccessful in getting the vehicle repaired under recall. The dealer actually wanted to charge for checking as to why the battery was draining instead of replacing the ignition switch as stated in the recall notice. Owner has talked with ronald berkan at general motors, who contacted the dealer and was told that the kit was placed in the vehicle as required by the recall. Mr. Berkan also stated that the ignition switch was not involved. There was nothing else that gm would do under this recall. Consumer is afraid that if recall work is not performed the ignition switch could cause a fire. Still having problems and now has to jump start vehicle every 24 hours.

Ignition switch recall was performed on 16 August 2002. On 23 August 2002 after being parked for 10 minutes vehicle ignited key was not in ignition. Please add damage to vehicle. Mr.

Consumer states while wating on an appointment to have recall for the ignition switch done, consumer feels the dealership is giving her the run around.

Vehicle caught on fire due to ignition switch failure. Steering wheel/dashboard caught on fire . Contacted dealer ,and dealer was not willing to do anything.

While waiting for recall 02070000 repairs appointment date ignition switch caught on fire and damaged other components. Consumer was charged.

Consumer states that steering column caught on fire when key was turned to start position. Vehicle checked by dealer who advised that the internal switch had melted.

Dealership charge for recall 02v070000 repairs after work was done.

Consumer was told that parts for recall o2v070000 concerning ignition switch failure would not be available until June, almost the end of June and not parts available yet.

Nhtsa recall 02-v-070-000/ manufacturer recall 02008 on ignition switch. Recall could not be serviced due to parts not available at the dandy brothers Chevrolet: 276-386-3111 until June of 2002 consumer being concern if problem occurs before part is available manufacture was notified.

Key was place inside of ignition and vehicle wouldn't turn on. Dealership wa saware of problem.

While attendant was servicing vehicle he placed key inside of ignition, and vehicle wouldn't turn over. Ignition switch started smoking , and vehicle caught on fire.

Ignition switch will not connect when applying key inside of ignition. Dealership is aware of problem.

While backing up consumer noticed smoke coming from ignition switch. Then, flames. He shut off engine, and fire went out. Consumer called Chevrolet customer service about the recall on ignition, it has not been determined if this vehicle was affected by recall.

While placing key inside of the ignition vehicle will not turn on at all.

Parts recall 02v070000 have not been available for 2 months, and consumer was suppose to be notified of parts delivery,but dealership never called.

Recal 02 v 070 000 concerning ignition switch. Dealer stated parts were not available until June. Consumer felt vehicle may catch on fire. Please provide any further information.
