The instrument panel stopped working. I ordered 2 used ones they did not work. I had the dealership rebuild it and it still does not work. I have searched online and several people have the same problem. Gm has recalled this item on several models but not on the cavaliar as of yet. I have spent hundreds and still have not fixed the problem. No speedometer, gas guage.

On June 15,2010 my entire cluster gauge started acting funny. I did some research to find out I was not the only one who owner a 2004 Cavalier and the gauges go all haywire. I feel this is a safety concern and should be reviewed.

2004 chevy Cavalier. The speedometer does not work properly. When starting the car (before shifting out of park) it will read 40+ mph. I once started it after it had been sitting in a hot parking lot for 8 hours and the needle was maxed out (again, before it was even shifted out of park). I have read that this problem has been experienced by many people with chevy Cavaliers (not just 2004 model). We were told that the only fix for this was to replace the entire cluster, which will cost $500+.
2004 chevy Cavalier speedo sticking. It started around 5 months ago it says your going 110 mph when only going 30 mph. Now it all over the place and the tach doesn't always work right either so you cant go by that. It is very dangerous trying to guess your speed. I have looked all over the internet only to find many people having the same problem. Chevy should have a recall if someone freaks out on a highway alot of people could really get hurt or even killed. Im sure if someone from chevy teenager had a cav doing this or got hurt because of this something would be done. Please do something to get this fixed. It doesn't seem to be a big issue but when people get hurt then it will be. . Please for the safety of people on the road tell gm they have a problem.
Speedometer and odometer just stopped working, and I was told my throttle cable is just barely hanging on.

The instrument cluster on my 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier has failed to operate properly.
I have a 2004 chevy Cavalier and recently the speedometer has just stopped working. Sometimes it decides to work due to weather conditions, but most likely it is on 80mph when im doing 20mph or it just sits at the bottom all together. I was about to have a mechanic fix my car and I did some online research. . Read more...
2003 chevy Cavalier speedometer failed at 49,240 miles. Resulting in potentially unsafe driving speed in otherwise perfect driving conditions.
The fuel gauge began to malfunction about a year ago. Assuming it was just the float, I decided I would ignore it and use the trip odometer to determine how much gas I had left. Unfortunately, because the gas gauge went well past full, into the realm of what would be considered two tanks of full, the temperature gauge needle could not move. Eventually, the gas gauge needle went past the temperature gauge (now at what would be considered two and a half tanks) which freed the temperature needle to actually register. Now, the temperature gauge is malfunctioning, resting at the half way point even after the car sat all night in our recent frigid temperatures. It now runs in the red even though there is nothing wrong with the engine. Now, the speedometer is showing signs of malfunctioning, as it reads 5 mph though I am at a complete stop. Research on various internet message boards suggest this is a very common problem in not only 2003 Chevrolet Cavaliers, but other years and models of chevy vehicles. When I complained to gm that a malfunctioning speedometer was a safety issue, I was greeted with "there's no recall, it's no longer under warranty, can't help, your problem, deal with it. " following this logic, what's stopping gm from creating more defective vehicles, if the problem happens after the warranty expires? they've adopted the attitude it's "not their problem. " at what point is a defective speedometer not a safety problem worthy of a recall?.
Gauge cluster not reading correctly on and off on 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier.
There are numerous complaints online concerning the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier. Specifically, the gauges (tach, speedometer, temperature and gas) often quit working, either all at once or one-by-one. The loss of the gauges is a danger not only to the motorists, but also to everyone else on the road. I bought my 2005 Cavalier brand new. At approximately 60,000 miles, my temp, tach and speedometer stopped working. Often, the temp gauge will swing in the wrong direction and interfere with the speedometer. Many days, my speedometer will not work at all; on other days, it will show a reading of 80 mph - even though the car is not moving. I do not feel this problem is a matter of normal wear and tear, which is what the dealerships tell those of us with these problems. Too many of us have these issues, which happen on both low mileage and high-mileage cars.

My entire instrument panel on my 2003 chevy Cavalier has stopped working. First it was the gas gauge that stopped about 2 years ago. I just learned to live it. Then recently my speedometer and rpm meter stopped working as well. I have had multiple price estimates done and none have been under $500 and I just plain and simple can't afford to have it done while I'm currently unemployed. I have researched other cases of faulty instrument panel and there are literally thousands of complaints on gm models including the Cavalier. This is certainly not safe and I'm assuming it's illegal to drive without a speedometer but still after years of complaints to gm of faulty instrument panels there has been no recall.
The speedometer and tach quit working or are reading the wrong speeds on my 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier. I can be at a stop sign and the gage shows 40mph. I can be going down the interstate and it shows 30 mph. Sometimes it doesn't work at all. I have been online & seen several forums with people with the same problem, and there is no apparent recall.
Speedometer in my 2003 chevy Cavalier jumps and doesn't display the correct speed.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier. Whenever the contact started her vehicle she noticed that the instrument panel displayed incorrect information. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealership and there were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 45294.
The instrument panel of my 2005 chevy Cavalier has gone crazy. It started with my gas gauge staying all the way to the right which prevents my temp gauge from reading. Now in the past week the rpm gauge is doing the same thing. I have noticed the speedometer will stick as I accelerate. I am just waiting for it to go out. I have to judge my miles to make sure I don't run out of gas. Why hasn't chevy recalled this problem? I also have had to replace both driver and passenger side window motors. . . . Now I believe it's an electrical problem that should be recalled!.
I own a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier and the speedometer has not worked for quite some time now. Now the gas gauge and the tachometer is malfunctioning, only to return to normal sporadically. The car is 5 years old and I don't believe I should be experiencing these problems. There are no recalls on the car, but I googled the problem and it seems that there are a handful of folks that are having the same problem with their Cavaliers (between 2004 and 2005 models). This safety feature on the car should not malfunction. Chevrolet should have a recall on these cars.
Instrument cluster on my 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier started malfunctioning in late December 2009. First the gas gauge stop working, then the temperature gauge beacuse the gas gauge interfered. Now July 10 2010. The speedometer has also stopped functioning properly because the temperature gauge interfered with it. This is very dangerous. I emailed gm but no response. Was told by gm dealer it would be over $700 to replace it. Not fair at all, this should be a recall by gm because of the safety issue.
The speedometer on my 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier has failed at the 50,000 mile mark. There is no way for me to tell the accurate speed I am driving.
I have a 2005 chev. Cavalier and the speedometer has gone wack. It reads fine sometimes then out of nowhere it jumps or sticks. This problem is common and I have heard about this problem from probably 80% of Cavalier owners.
The instrument cluster is not giving the right speed you are going and the tach is not giving the rpms it stays on 0. Speed needle goes all the way around as to as far it can go and it stays there for a few days.
The easiest way to put this is the 2004 chevy Cavalier instrument panel is messed up, it first started approximately 3 months ago when my speedometer would read 40mph when I was idling, and now the needle is buried past 110mph even when im going 20mph. Now the gas gauge has gotten messed up too its needle is buried blocking the temperature needle from advancing which would cause overheating and braking problems. I called a local dealership about this problem and the service manager said he knows it is a problem but then proceeded to tell me it would be $500. 00 to repair it. Honestly I am kind of scared to drive this car with my family in it due to chevy not wanting to replace this widely known problem, I greatly appreciate you taking your time for reading this.
2005 Chevrolet Cavalier LS sport coupe, speedometer does not work (does not show correct m. P. H. ). I don't know how fast I'm going and based off of what I have been reading online about this model vehicle the rest of the instrument panel might also fail. There are thousands of other Cavaliers that have this safety issue and needs to be recalled as soon as possible.
2005 Chevrolet Cavalier speedometer inaccurate and does not function properly after 60,000 miles. Sometimes it does not work at all and other times its saying you're going 110mph when you are going at a snails pace. Still researching how to fix it and affordable. Search 2005 Cavalier and numerous complaints with the same issue pop up. It failed on me while driving down the highway and had no ideal how fast I was going.
2005 Chevrolet Cavalier. About a month ago my fuel and speedometer gauges started to fail. I have read other complaints from owners of the similar make and model. I feel that this is a safety issue and it must be addressed. I know this is costly to repair and I do not think it is due to the age or wear and tear of the vehicle.
2005 Chevrolet Cavalier. About a month ago my fuel and odometer gauges started to fail. I have read other complaints from owners of the similar make and model. Around October of 2009, the temperature gauge in my 2005 chevy Cavalier started acting funny. My car was not overheating I had it checked. Over the course of the next couple of months the gauge needle started going all the way to the right into the speedometer thus effecting the speedometer's accuracy in telling me how fast I am going. The needle now rests below the 0 mph mark on the speedometer. At the time I did not have the funds to get it fixed. Now just yesterday August 1, 2010 the gas gauge started acting funny, which I started noticing about a month ago. Now the needle is resting in the temp gauge area so I have no idea how much gas I have. To me all these sound like safety issues to me. . Not knowing how hot your car is running! not knowing how fast you are going! and not knowing how much gas you have. I did some research and turns out I am not the first Chevrolet Cavalier consumer with this problem. Their have been recalls for tahoes, silverados, ect but not for Cavalier which has the same thing happening that these vehicles have had. I am taking it tomorrow to have the whole instrument panel cluster replaced at the gm dealership and it will cost me $500 approximately. This is unacceptable for something that is clearly not my fault if multiple vehicles are having the same problem. And what happens if the same thing happens again because Chevrolet puts faulty equipment in their vehicles and doesn't take responsibility for it and tries to call it normal wear and tear?? I will have to pay 500 again to have it repaired again. I want to know what kind of wear and tear causes this problem to occur.
Defective speedometer instrument cluster, speedometer malfunctioning when vehicle is in operation , speedometer will indicate various speeds like 110, 100. 70, mph or stuck in a mph position when vehicle is not in operation with engine off.
I own a 2003 chevy Cavalier and the temperature gauge does not work and now the rpm gauge isn't working. I have about 45,000 miles on it and the dealership says I need to replace the cluster. After doing a lot of research on the internet about the repair, I have discovered that this is a common problem among all Cavaliers; the cluster needs to be repaired. I will have my car repaired this week and will need to spend $500 to repair it. I have even called GMC's customer service to see if their is a warranty on the part or a recall. Why are car owners spending $500 plus to fix this problem when it is a known problem?.
Speedometer defective, needle sticking at various speeds when vehicle is moving. ( 100 , 70, 64, 59 mph) really don't know what the actual speed of vehicle is when vehicle is begin driven. Needle moves at anything and sticks in position even after vehicle engine is turned off. Vehicle was taken to general motors repair shop on 10/06/09 , the diagnosis was a defective speedometer cluster. Checked with general mirrors corporation , they have not issued a safety recall on this vehicle.
My speedometer began operating erratically about 1 year ago for the last 3 months it has not operated at all stays below 0 at all times.
My 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier instrument panel is not working right. So far the gas and the temp gauges have been affected and I am sure the others will soon follow. I have 48000 miles on my car and the five year warranty just ran out. This is a problem that needs to be addressed by gm. From my internet research I have learned that this a common problem on this make of car. Also gm has recalled other car models for the same problem. So why not this one?.
I own a 2005 chevy Cavalier and the speedo and temp. Gauge stopped working. This problem is always. No repairs had been made do to the cost of the part being $300+.
The speedometer has stopped functioning on my 2005 chevy Cavalier. It occasionally will work, but only sporadically, if ever.
While driving on the highway, I looked at my speedometer and it was not moving above 35 miles per hour. I pulled over and saw that the speedometer did not go to zero; it stayed at 35 miles per hour. I turned my car off and on, and the speedometer decreased to 30 miles per hour. After turning my car off and on six to seven more times, the speedometer finally went back to zero. After that, I began driving again. The speedometer worked fine. The next day, the speedometer got stuck at 50 miles per hour. Without pulling over and turning the car off, the speedometer began working again, however, it showed I was driving at 100 miles per hour, when I was driving with highway traffic at about 50-55 miles per hour. This happens just about every day during the summer months. When it is cold, this tends to happen less frequently, maybe once a month. The car has been taken to two or three mechanics and each time I am told that there are no problems. The computer says there are no problems with the car. This problem, when first noticed, could have created a serious hazard if the speedometer was stuck at 55 miles per hour, and the driver exited to a city road at 30 miles per hour. The driver would hit their brakes, thinking they were driving fast, possibly causing a collision. When the speedometer is not working there is no real way to tell the exact speed that you are driving. General motors was called the day of the problem and a report regarding the problem was created.
